Board is heating up again. Calling all Cobbers, Gusties, Oles, Pipers, Knights, Let's hear about what's going on in your camps? Or at least what you've heard? Thanks Art and G&B for the update on the Royals.

Here are some newcomers that I have a hunch will make an impact for SJU this year:

James Inman at a LB position
Kenneth Udoibok at RB
Karl Rude on the OL

You heard it here first.

A tradition unrivaled...

I really miss Frank's MIAC preview of each squad, which would come out around this time of the year in the sctimes.   :(

Frank's coverage of MIAC teams continues in Kickoff, however!

True, We've heard from Auggies just not about Auggie football news. Thanks Art!

Udoibok's younger brother (Peter) recently verbally committed to "Rowing the Boat" next year.

Saw the other day, the Auggies got some stadium upgrades from a donor; MNDOT pitched in for a new soundwall along the visitor sideline (aka the 94 side)  ;D

Quick Question: Has anyone here ever done the Tommie-Johnnie game up in Collegeville with a toddler? If so, how did it go? I'm thinking about flying in with my son this year, and want to make sure it's an enjoyable experience for all involved. I'm not sure if he can handle prolonged merrymaking without having a meltdown or two.

The Auggies return QB Quinn Frisell who is going to torch some DB's this year. Several O Linemen are back as well as Nick Heenie at WR who will have to carry a fire extinguisher to put out the flames on the opposing, frustrated and torched DB's in the endzone. Assuming that the other WR will be the transfer from the No Dak JUCO Joshua Ferguson who I saw play at St. Michael opposite the D1 WR Isiah Weston. Should be a good combo to keep the Auggies air attack alive.

Running back transfers Ra'shan Cunnigan and Keith Anthony sure look like legit contributors to me but hey somebody has to be able to block the D linemen in the MIAC for them to move the ball. I think the starting Oline can win that battle some games but will need great leadership to win the majority of them.

The linebackers look very solid as the starters return from last year.

D line looks good with more returning players than I thought.

As Kickoff mentioned though the Dbacks are mostly new starters, plenty of talent back there just not much experience. We will see. I like the 2 freshmen Tariq Smith (might be at RB) and Ryan Suggs. Tariq played in the MN High School All Star game and Suggs comes from Totino Grace. Both look like very good athletes and prospects but freshmen. The safeties I am guessing are Lakeem Johnson and John Martin two big athletic safety types with awesome Long Hair styles.

Hard to say before we see the first game but I can't argue with the predicted 4 win season. Maybe 5 if they can beat St Olaf and/or GAC. Frisell has to lead the team to several wins himself if they want a better record. He can do it.

That was a source of embarrassment personally for a long time. Glad to see the new wall.

A couple of tweaks at Royal Stadium as well. The grandstand bathrooms, the grandstand concession stand, and the scoreboard are all getting facelifts.

Given that we have an infant in our house now (someday I have to get around to changing my username to incorporate the new initial), I am planning to bring a kid or two up to Collegeville for the game this year. I'll probably have the 8 and 6 year old with me (potentially a 4 year old, but not likely all 3), so we can make Tommie-Johnnie Tailgate Part 2 kid friendly. My kids can help entertain your little guy and there's a chance some of the folks that joined us last time would join again with some children. We are past the napping stages though, so it's a little easier to manage the merrymaking without meltdowns.

I've done it both ways.  One year, we brought the kids, one year, they stayed with Grandma and Grandpa.  The year we brought them, it was hot.  We went into the Paelestra at the half to cool off.  Let's just say they were using the gym as a detox facility, and a quite inebriated young fella asked me if I could help him get his buddy out of lockup.  I'm not sure why he thought a guy wrangling a 2 and 4 year old would be a good target, but I had to decline.

The next year, we sent solo.

I'd say it's possible depending upon the toddler, but it makes for a very long day, and you won't get to see much of the game.  Also, it sound like it would just be the two of you--it would be easier going 2-on-1, but I would be that your wife likely doesn't want to be seen in public with you, and you wouldn't want to risk loser her to a Johnnie.

Will there still be a condiments table for my son to hide under while eating his hot dog at halftime? Taking him to UST-Bethel in the rain a few years ago is a memory I will never forget.
