I'm amazed that the schools don't give away sweatshirts and hats and mugs and pencils for free as well. After all, the students pay to be there.

Just sharing what I've heard as reasoning from decision-makers at many Division III schools.

Heading out to the game with the whole family.  If you see a bald guy with a bunch of redheads, say hello!

Got my regular reserved seat but VOJ only. Could get video on my TV  but will probably not bother.

GO JOHNNIES  ;)
The older the violin - the sweeter the music!

Final score SJU 27- UW-Stout 0
The Johnnies 3/8 point a minute offense just doesn't roll off the tonge like point a minute offense does  ;D
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

That was a good game today.  The Johnnies did well to hold Stout scoreless as they came to play.  Especially the running back (#1 I think).  He had a bit of agro about him as they say down under (meaning he was playing angry and hard).  It looked like the Blue Devils came with the intention of bumping off a top MIAC team two years in a row.  The defensive line was massively outsized by the Stout O-line so it was a good test for them.  The Johnnie O was a bit rusty, particularly in short field situations so hopefully they work that out in the next six weeks.

The Gusties will want to be on the ball next week as I think Stout will be very capable of dishing out a pounding.

It looked like Stout's O-line was gassed (or out of gas) by halftime.

Unfortunately the Gusties forgot how to play football and were lethargic and unmotivated on both sides of the ball. The Gustavus starters should have dominated both sides of the line of scrimmage but they managed to play down to Martin Luther and were barely effective. Twin Cities metro HS football is better than the brand of football Gustavus brought to the game. Martin Luther came out enthusiastic, played well, and played hard and should have won the game.  Carleton, St. Olaf, and Macalester would have destroyed the Gusties with the way they played today; truly one of the most incompetent displays of football ever.  Today's win will be the Gusties only win this season unless they drastically fix themselves.

Due to move-in day 1/2 of  the girls to their college housing, I was watching the Ripon - Augsburg game on my phone sporadically at best but I was able to see enough of the game and saw several scores. Too many mistakes for my book but Augsburg got the win. The two running backs are fun to watch, Kieth Anthony and Raquan Cunnigan. Both have great, long hair that flies around with some kind of warrior look and they run tough. I mean tough. Both are around 5 ft 9 and 215 maybe 220 lbs. Hopefully they stay on the field all year, if they stay healthy this will be fun to watch. Both of these guys remind me of Tyrell Martin a few years ago in his senior year. He ran with a lot of attitude and swagger, just like these guys,

Frisell looked good and Heenie was his normal self once he got a chance to get open. The defense is better than I expected with the front 7 looking solid but Ripon was able to find some space to score. Need to fix that or we are looking at 5 wins max. Tighten up the defense and the penalties and who knows how many wins, but clearly more than 5.

Well Tommies rolled much like I thought they would. It's hard to tell because Trinity Intl wasn't very good but UST looked very polished and other than the long over-top TD pass (75yd) the played flawlessly as near as I could tell. The defense picked up from where it left off last year, giving up just 106yds of total offense. Unfortunately for Trinity their #1 QB sat out with a slightly torn hamstring but with him the previous week they set an NAIA record with 732yds of offense against Presentation. Tucker Trettel didn't play and is not expected to return until the SJ2 game. Parks and Perra looked like rockstars and will be extremely difficult to defend. Unfortunately, but not surprising it doesn't appear Hamline will be much of a test but it does appear that Eau Claire is significantly improved.

So I get in that Uber car for the ride home from the sports lounge Saturday night and the driver lets go his freshman son is going to try and make the St. Johns football team.
I say, "Izzat right? Collegeville?"
He swerved a lane.
"How'd you know that?"
"Oh, I've been trying to get them into the playoffs for about 15 years now."

Congrats on the BIG win yesterday. But not really a surprise. Dlll picked you toward the top and we all know that's a good program. Whether you like Caruso or not, he's got a super team. Watch out for The Tommies. Best on the season. Go Tommies and Go Everybody! ☠🏈
I'm old! I get mixed up and I forget things! Go Everybody! 🏈 ☠

"Hanson" the former teen idol group from a decade or 2 ago just did one of the finest versions of our National Anthem in front of the Southern 500 at Darlington I have ever heard.
