MAC beat Hamline tonight...they've now beaten Carleton and Hamline two years in a row. Get back in the league...they might even be able to beat GAC and Ole.
If I counted correctly the are 7-6 against MIAC teams dating back to 2013. This
It would make it much easier for other member institutions to find one competitive non-conference game instead of two competitive non-conference games! If the MIAC is good enough for MAC in the other sports,FB is as well!
Would you really want to play Macalester instead of a WIAC, CCIW or team from the conference formerly known as the IIAC?

Redtooth

The likelihood of Mac coming back into the MIAC for football is very low...the league never should have allowed the "buffet line" picking and choosing of sports to compete in the conference.  During this past off season a number of other schools threatened to do the same thing in football because of UST and SJU being too dominant, having too many players, scoring too many points etc...

Fun to be back able to participate here.

Top 25 is out. :)

Nice.

Tommies remain in third, Johnnies move up to ninth and the Cobbers receive a single point.

EDIT: And the WIAC has four ranked teams.

Welcome back Redtooth.

It would be a shame if the other schools tossed their toys out of the cot and quit the MIAC. And the. Everyone drops golf, or tennis, or swimming or any sport in which they are uncompetitive.  It kind of misses the point of it all.

Week 3 MIAC 2018

MIAC teams in play last week lost 3 games. So the conference record so far for the year is 11 and 5, leaving only 5 teams with no losses so far this season. Looking forward, I think it is safe to say that the conference should win the remaining two non-conference games to complete the season at 13 and 5.

There was a lot of drama this past week in the MIAC with the sprinklers going off during the game at Carleton, another night game for Hamline with Macalester winning, and an overtime loss at Gustavus when Stout blocked their extra point attempt resulting in them splitting their MIAC record this year.

For this week's games Bethel has their bye week. The blowout game will be Hamline going over to St. Thomas. The Pipers have a tough row to hoe at the beginning of their season. Having lost their first two non-conference games, they now have to face the favorite for winning the conference at O'Shaughnessy Stadium. And it doesn't get much easier for them as they travel up to Concordia the following week. The Tommie starters will be off the field by half-time.

In the second game we have St. John's going down to St. Peter to take on the Gusties. Both of these teams have already played Stout this season, so it easy to assume that the Johnnies will win this game because of the previous results. But I suspect Gustavus will score points in their loss and give St. John's a bit of a fit, but no real scare.

The third game in the MIAC will have Concordia traveling for the second week in a row, but this week they land at Augsburg.  The Auggies are still one of the undefeated teams left in the conference, but even having this game at home, they won't stay that way because I think the Cobbers will pound the rock to victory.

The game of the week is down in Northfield this week as St. Olaf crosses town to play at Carleton for the Goat trophy, and the turning of the eagle statue to face the winning school. The Oles won last year by three when they knocked down the game winning touchdown pass with just 25 seconds left in the game. The Knights are riding high, having won a game last week for the first time since October 1st, 2016. Being it's the first conference home game for the new coach and his staff, I expect that the Knights will give the Oles a real run for their money. If I was forced to have to pick a winner, I would side with St. Olaf, but this game should live up to the game of the week in the conference.

Who would have ever thought that the MIAC would have two of its five out-of-conference losses to Macalester of all schools?  Not me.

Hey, was anybody at the Bethel game Saturday? The score was tight and I was expecting more of a convincing win? Any insight here? Was the score indicative of the game? Or was Bethel "snake bitten" which kept it close?

I was not at the game, listening/watching in the garage while doing some painting and putting spark plugs in my truck. They scored 20 in the first quarter and it looked like it was going to be a convincing win. The Falcons clawed back, in part because the freshman QB had to come out and Marsh had a sore throwing hand. Frankly, from what I was seeing, the defense really wasn't getting enough pressure on their QB, forcing the DBs to work harder.

Thanks Art. I'm guessing RF is probably getting better too. They're the closest WIAC school to the TC metro area. With their price tag, they probably should be much better than they have been in the recent years.

So you would agree that MAC needs to rejoin the MIAC in FB.

I'm glad we have that settled  ;D

I don't see GAC scoring more than 7, and I predict a Monkey StompoutTM.

If Mac can do this another year or two, I would support the switch back to the MIAC. If that were to happen, it means though that as a conference we would only get one non-conference game a year. That is, if there are no other turn coats because they are consistently beaten by all the rest of the MIAC.

So what was the response from SJU & UST?
