Another better answer, night games. Let's say that playing hot is a sudden new danger, a point not proven but pretend it is. Then schedule all MIAC games for night play.  Having the Gusties and a few other teams play at the local high school every week will have a far smaller impact than moving the game to the same high school with a day to go.

I'm sure that after a year of this, you probably will see some schools make those decisions. The fact that only Hamline, SJU and UST have lights right now is going to slow this down, however.

For your next podcast perhaps you might explore the grand conspiracy that this was the intent for years. How long ago did SJU put lights in?  How often have they been used for Friday night high school games?  When was heat first making its way around MIAC circles?

I'm pretty sure you're right, however, that the MIAC picked the worst, most unworkable solution possible so that their real intent seems a better decision in the end. They lacked the courage to fight a losing battle straight up so have rigged this controversy to achieve the same end.

Even for your rhetorical exercise here, please don't put words into my mouth.

I would love to hear more about these brilliant alternative solutions that you keep yammering about with your MIAC conspiracy theory. I am sure they are much better and easier than shifting the times on a couple football games each year, an action which apparently is causing great heartache and strife for all involved.

Doesn't Auggie have lights? Swear I remember going to an Auggie / SJU game under the lights years ago when Hvistendahl was nearing that receiving record.

Yes, thank you. Forgot we still had nine teams in the MIAC!

Mr.MIAC

Maybe we can keep everyone happy. UST can move to D1 and our junior college can stay D3. That way SJ2 still has a rivalry game and UST can fulfill its ambitions.

I bet the players would rather play in the heat, go back to campus and have some beers. They've played in heat, rain, snow and cold. I really doubt they want to play on a high school field to make a bunch of administrators feel good about their virtues.

BDB

It's their game. Remember that? Anybody ask them? I doubt it.

I'm not so sure. I think Johnnies like being in the power position. It's not really about being excellent. It's about being perceived as the best, albeit in a small pond. That's cool. It's just not what UST is about...

That field is so close Gustavus could run a new line out there before the game if there's no reliable connection currently.

AO always seems to have the 411 on damn near everything Minnesota sports related and I mean that sincerely. He's a good follow on twitter.

Anyway AO, do you think the teams will use the normal college field locker rooms if the fields are that close or use whatever the high school teams use?

Forgetting for a moment the heat issue, it's pretty bizarre to have to move the game next door to a high school field, because I guess GAC doesn't have lights on their field? Must get some gray games late in the year.
Only a quarter-mile walk from the Gustavus locker room to the field, so I'm sure they'll stay out of the middle school.  Kind of shocking Gustavus hasn't put up lights or a jumbotron yet.  Best place to watch a game that I've seen in D3.

As for my twitter, make sure to check for updates on my cousin's wife (who has also started to go by AO since marrying into the family).  She's tied for the lead at the final LPGA major of the year.   :o
