MiacMan summed it up.  He was played basketball for the Gophs for a season (maybe 2?), then, transferred to SJU.  Since he didn't play football at the U, he still had plenty of eligibility.  He was the target of a lot of jokes for being an old man.  He did QB a team that brought home the Walnut and Bronze!
Yep,on 1998-99  U of M basketball roster. Then 5 years of FB (medical redshirt part of that) and a couple of years of basketball at SJU. All of a sudden you are 24-25 years old.
He's a good guy, good family through the business dealings I have had with them over the years.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Can anyone explain what St Thomas has done to make their program dominant since Carusso took the helm? What is St John's not doing that has given St Thomas the edge? Did anyone see St Thomas entirely dominating Concordia-Moorhead? They were up by more points at halftime than St John's was over Augsburg.

Been gone quite a while from this board, though viewing without posting recently.  Now I have a single question, has the arrogant ass TDT (gone), the arrogant ass Chicago tommy, (gone), and the arrogant ass revmiac (unfortunately posting) ever posted in the same time frame?
Everyday is payday in paradise.

Caruso is an outstanding coach, excellent players want to play for him and buy 100% into system and culture, UST has phenomenal athletic and academic resources

And, success breeds success.

Coach Kuchinski running the defense (has been w/ Caruso entire time at UST) and is an underrated gem

The AFL Grand Final between Collingwood and West Coast was played yesterday and it was a fantastic, hard-played, high-tension game (unlike the fare offered today in the MIAC, unfortunately).  It also included the big Texan, Mason Cox, who is the first American to ever play in a Grand Final (and also the tallest man to ever play in the AFL at a couple hairs under seven feet).

Highlights are here.  If I see the full game posted then I'll provide the link to that as well - well worth watching.

We're seeing snowflakes and it's only September. What gives?

Johnnies need to play that Wozniak kid on D when it matters. He is a beast!

He was disruptively impressive when he got his shot in the last quarter (or at least that's when I first noticed his name).  He was shooting into the backfield and getting tackles for loss with regularity.  I reckon we'll hear his name quite a bit over the next few years.

EDIT:  He only had two tackles but both were solo and for a loss.  I thought he had more.  I'm sure he will soon.  And only a freshman.

During the Grand Final yesterday (we went to a bbq gathering at a friend's house for the game) someone asked about turf v grass in gridiron as all footy is played on grass.  It led to discovering an article in a Google search (http://exercisemed.org/wp/blog/playing-on-turf-increases-injuries-in-the-nfl/) which states:

Quote
ACL sprains occurred at a rate 67% higher on turf than grass. Eversion ankle sprains occurred at a rate 31% higher on turf than grass.

So, I wonder if with the increasing focus on player injuries during football leading to increasingly dramatic rule changes, will the MIAC may reach a point that it mandates play on grass?  As far as injury goes, the actual incidence of ACL's, sprains and turf toe would be certainly more statistically significant than heat exhaustion.  If heat risks are the standard by which rule changes are implemented, then I don't see how we aren't close to a mandated grass rule.  If BU waits it out just a little longer then they could be the league star in terms of playing surface.

Triple post:

Congratulations are due as it also turns out that today was Fasching's 50th win, moving him into second place all time on the list of Johnnie coaching wins.  Only 439 to go and he can make Gagliardi sweat a little.

Once upon a time, the MIAC was 90% Minnesota kids. SJU was 99% Minnesota kids and the 1% had some kind of family connection the SJU. John G. did not recruit, not even central MN,yet the talent kept coming. Albany,Becker,Holdingford,Piez,ROCORI,Sartell all had great high school programs and the best of those programs made their way to SJU. Look back at how many St. Cloud Times Players of the Year played at SJU. Then Eden Prairie started to dominate the big school football scene and some of those kids name their way to SJU.

When Carouso came in he saw that UST was a sleeping giant and needed some players, he had recruiting connections from previous stops as assistant at FBS schools. He tapped into his recruiting pipeline and got a commitment from the administration and donors and the MIAC arms race was set in motion.

When Gary took over at SJU there was a commitment made to recruiting and out of state talent is part of that. Damien Dumonceaux is the architect of the recruiting program SJU has now. The coaching staff has doubled since John's days and Brandon Novak,Kole Heckendorf , Josh Bunkum and Mike Orts along with others hit the road to find these kids in California,Texas,Arizona, Florida and Nebraska. Some of these kids are kids SJU recruited out of high school but went the D1 or D2 route and after a year transferred to SJU.

The talent gap is shrinking and I feel good about where SJU is as far as facilities goes. The woods and large campus is a deal maker or a deal breaker for some kids so that location can be good or bad.

Statement win for the Tommies yesterday. SJ2 will find out where it's talent stacks up in two weeks. Caution,  don't look past the Royals though.

We got a glimpse of how good UST can be this season and it was fun to watch. UST looks pretty good all around, with the exception of the backup QB position. I feel like the offense just doesn't move as well when Perra is out of the game. Jones has had some time with the 1's, but he looks average at best running the offense. It may be time to move on and see what you have with guys like Frankl, Nolan, or the freshman QB from Loyola Academy who was highly recruited.

Agreed. Somebody on the live stream noted that Frankl was not dressed as the #3 but Dolan was. I can't confirm that though.
