A Tommie fan dies on match day and goes to heaven in his Tommie gear. He knocks on the old pearly gates and out walks St Peter wearing a Johnnie cap.

"Hello, mate," says St Peter, "I'm sorry, no Tommie fans in heaven."

"What?" exclaims the man, astonished.

"You heard. No Tommie fans."

"But, but, but, I've been a good man," replies the Tommie.

"Oh, really?" says St Peter. "What have you done then?"

"Well," says the guy, "three weeks before I died, I gave 20 bucks to the starving children in Africa."

"Oh," says St Peter. "Anything else?"

"Well, two weeks before I died, I also gave 20 bucks to the homeless."

"Hmmm. Anything else?"

"Yeah. A week before I died, I gave 20 bucks to the Albanian orphans."

"Okay," says St Peter, "you wait here a minute while I have a word with the governor."

Ten minutes pass before St Peter returns. He looks the bloke in the eye and says, "I've had a word with God and he agrees with me. Here's your sixty bucks back, now get lost."

Took the jaunt down to St Peter today to see the Cobbs at Gustavus. I have never seen a Concordia team as flat as they were today. Defense didn't really fire a spark plug until the second half, which was one half sooner than the offense did. Poor execution, turnovers galore, and while penalties were few, they all negated (or made possible) some of the better plays. Weird day.

On the bright side, Gustavus did have four--yes four jumpee houses up for their Homecoming festivities  ;)

We gave up one sack, but Erdmann was certainly pressured as evidenced by his two interceptions!
And how many holding penalties were called  on the o-line? At least a half dozen and every time we got yards on the ground we got called for a hold. And our running backs aren't anything special.

Think of it as a good wakeup call. Better to work those things out this week than next week, right?

Word is that John G is not doing well. If you pray offer some up for him. Sounds like he could pass soon. On Johnnie/Tommie week...wow!

I guess that's a disadvantage of not playing anyone tough until mid season, you really don't know how good you are, and it is hard for people voting for the top 25 to know as well. I don't see how SJU will remain in the top 10, especially since Bethel wasn't rated and didn't even receive any votes for top 25. Maybe SJU just had an off day, but if they play the same way they did today St. Thomas shouldn't have any trouble with them.

Highly unlikely St. John's drops out of the top 10. Highly unlikely. They might even move up if the voters decide they need to move Wesley from 6 to 9 after Wesley lost to the No. 5 team. (I wouldn't advocate they move Wesley that far down, either, however.)

That was a better Bethel team than I've seen in a number of years.  The Johnnies need to clean up the penalities.  Not sure why Bethel wasn't called more for holding--Brinket was held/tackled every pass play.

Not sure why Marsh isn't starting for Bethel.

That targeting penalty was ridiculous.  I'm glad Erdmann was okay, but that kid deserved worse than the expulsion he got.

Roste didn't look good today, he seemed tentative on most of his passes but that hasn't been the case before today, not sure what his problem was today. He is also a much better runner than Marsh is and he has outplayed Marsh up until today. But it looks like Roste has trouble staying healthy, could be a problem in the future.

Maybe not since I really don't follow the top teams that close, but based on how SJU played today they didn't look like a top 10 team to me.

Could totally be possible but a voter would have to find someone to replace them with. Someone has to be in the top 10.

Nice little read on Coach John:
https://abcnews.go.com/Sports/john-gagliardi-winningest-coach-college-football-history-dies/story?id=58340188

"In honor of John, today make an effort to do what was effortless for John: Compliment your spouse many, many times today; listen intently to others; and 'Be interested, not interesting.' See the best in others," Gina Gagliardi Benson wrote.

Sage advice in a age that seems to thrive on the opposite.
