SUMMIT!!!!!

Very saddened  by the news of John Gagliardi's passing, and I offer my most sincere condolences to his family and to his extended family of the Saint John's community.

While many will comment on him as a coaching legend and innovator-- both of which he was-- I  prefer to be remember John as a good and decent man, a molder of men and a man who always had a smile and kind word to everyone (except refs during the game). He was a positive impact on the lives of so many and set the bar high for the rest of the us.
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT?

I have absolutely no ties to either St. Thomas or Augsburg, but consider;

10:34 left in the St. Thomas-Augsburg game yesterday with St. Thomas leading 67-14.
UST scores another TD to up their lead to 73-14-–a 59 point advantage!
Then what does St. Thomas do? THEY GO FOR A TWO POINT CONVERSION!

What in the world was UST Coach Glenn Caruso thinking? Now that we have our opponents down by 59, lets also kick them in the face and go for two? Did he think Augsburg was going to make up that 59 point differential in the remaining 10:34?  ???

Just wondering if anyone can possibly explain the rationale in going for two at that point. Is there some justifiable hidden reason here that I'm not seeing or aware of? Did Augsburg previously commit some unpardonable sin against St. Thomas? Seems like Caruso deserves not only a yellow flag, but also a red card for that play.

Do UST fans even support that decision? And what do Augsburg and fans of the other conference teams think?
Thanks.

Final TD score at 2:47 on the video,   a short drive with 7 straight runs up the middle by what the announcer describes as the 3rd team offense.

St. Thomas chose to take a knee in the victory formation on the "2-point try"

I responded to this gotcha on the OAC board. They kneeled instead of kicking the EP or going for 2. Settle down folks.

Link to the radio call is listed on that board

That was weird...I'd be ok with giving the backup kicker, holder and long snapper a chance.

Well then, pick up that flag!
You certainly can't fault anyone for a TD by the 3rd team at just about any point.
And personally, I'd view the kneel down as respectful.

It was worth taking a ding in order to be able to get the answer. Well done Coach Caruso/ UST.

Top 25 is out.  Tommies stay in third and despite the adolescent Tommie wet dreams, the Johnnies move up to 8th.  Bethel earns two votes.

Massey calls this weekend's clash a one point game in favour of UST.

My sympathy and condolences to the Gagliardi family and the SJU football family.  He was one of the best.

My sincere condolences to all Johnnie's on the  passing of John Gagliardi. John was a friend of mine and truly a great man. He will be greatly missed by all that ever buttoned up a chin strap in the MIAC during his long and legendary coaching career.  Thoughts and prayers are with his family and the entire SJU and MIAC community.

Extreme sorrow for the loss of such a legendary man and my condolences to the Gagliardi Family, the SJU family and to any fans of MIAC Football and to any of us who had the absolute fortune of playing in the MIAC during his tenure. I feel truly blessed to have shared the same field with John G. and his Johnnie teams.

Scroll down, the truth couldn't be more opposite in this case....What color would you like your jump to conclusions mat?

Let's take a gander back to 2003 for a sec. 67-7. Passing touchdown with :35 seconds left. Hmm

From a pure coaching standpoint what impressed me most about John Gagliardi was how he always appeared to design the system and  scheme around the players he had each year. SJU always had a handful of bread and butter plays but a lot of the scheme changed from year to year as different talent was available at different positions. There are countless examples of it: Moving Blake Elliott to different positions to leverage the talent, letting Linneman run an entire offense and play call, and riding a strong RB like Malmberg. That kind of adaptability is missing in coaches at all levels.

A lot of coaches will profess admiration today, but will unfortunately miss many of the lessons. This was a great quote when he stumbled into coaching hockey for a little while even though he couldn't skate and hadn't seen a game.

"I think we did well because I had great hockey players and I didn't screw them up too much....Don't screw up your people. Bring out the best in them."

A couple quick questions I have from this past weekend in MIAC football.
1. How did Concordia fall behind 27-0 to Gustavus?
2. How did Gustavus hold Concordia to 20 yards net on the ground for the game?
???

Right?!?!  I kept hear updates from the PA announcer (OK, barely hearing), and I kept thinking, "Does he have the score reversed?"

Also, how bad is Hamline?  :-\
