You would discuss the world's problems over a glass of bourbon? What about over a glass of single malt Scotch whisky? I'll drink to that. Actually, I'll drink to just about anything. Not that there's anything wrong with that!. Or how about a can of Milwaukee's Best Light? Sometimes I'm totally lacking in class. Whatever! 🍷🍸🍹🍺🍾❗️

I wouldn't do anything with Scotch, but you'd be welcome to that. I've never developed a taste for Scotch. Just another one of those classless Tommies I guess.

I could hook you up with some rye moonshine though.

Are you referring to Templeton?

I didn't say it was the best metric, but it is good to call it what it is. It's really bad as an RPI, but that's because it's not an RPI.

(Discussed in today's podcast in those specific terms, in fact.)

Pat's getting first-hand experience of what it's like for Tommie professors or the unfortunate souls stuck in line behind a Tommie who's trying to figure out where to put their card in an ATM: If you explain things slowly, and, like, 7 or 8 times but usually no more than 9, eventually the Tommies catch on.

I wish the committee would do away with the conference winner earning the AQ as there are a ton of top quality teams that get left out while teams from very weak conferences make the field.

This isn't up to the committee -- it's the Division III membership as a whole that voted in this system.

I believe 952 didn't go to UST, for what it's worth.

I can neither confirm nor deny that I am referring to such a thing.

Thanks for the tip on the Scotch. Didn't say I could afford lots of the single malt, but sure do enjoy it. Or cheap beer. Or tap water. One day to go for you guys. Even I can feel the excitement. Sis boom bah, block that kick, make that point and all that other stuff. Best to everyone!

Pat with his dang facts intruding.

That said, I just did an interview with someone who does some work with the CDC and now I feel I have to call them back and alert them to the fact Tommie-ness can apparently be spread between humans.

Speaking of booze, a few years back I noticed that all the hardcore Scotch aficionados at my club are members of The Scotch Malt Whisky Society. They do limited runs of cask-strength single malts. The Society is headquartered in Edinburgh, but they have an office in New York that can ship directly to your home in the United States. I got a membership and it's been really fun, though my wife complains that we have way too much booze around the house. If you're into Scotch, particularly unique cask-strength offerings, check it out: https://www.smwsa.com.

The Scotch club I belong to buys most of their bottles from SMWSA. https://www.shsws.info/   $150 a year, 4 gatherings and usually 4 tastings (maybe a dram or two more).

With the first snowflakes flying this morning in northwest Iowa, my intention was not to offend any, but rather poke fun at St Thomas. Credit to St Thomas for stepping up their level of play & making the Johnnie/Tommie matchup the best rivalry in Division III! Obviously the winner will be the AQ entrant to the playoffs, but the loser should certainly earn a berth as well! I wish the committee would do away with the conference winner earning the AQ as there are a ton of top quality teams that get left out while teams from very weak conferences make the field.

Not offended in the least, just noting that this is a place I come to escape the politics of the rest of the world/internet and I'd rather not know any of y'alls political perspectives or share my own. I'd be happy to diagnose and solve the world's problems over a nice glass of bourbon though, even with the Johnnies.

I like the "every conference winner has a shot" model. And if the loser tomorrow takes care of business the rest of the season, they will have a chance to prove their worth in the playoffs by winning a few games.

Bourbon. Great point! I'm going to get the wife to drive tomorrow.

I've only had the pleasure once. Back when I was in North Dakota the owner of Happy Harry's would send out an email to his regulars letting them know when he got a few cases. There'd be a line around the parking lot. Of course, this was shortly after the distillery burned down and there was a shortage.

Best bourbon I've ever had.

Usually I just grab a bottle of Bulleit, but lately I've been into Four Roses and Tin Cup.

You know me, I'm always down for a few Milwaukee's Best Lights! As, for whiskey give me the Irish! Jameson or Two Gingers in particular.

On a T/J football note: It appears the D3.com readers like the Tommies big over the Johnnies or the Johnnies over the Tommies if it's close. I think I tend to agree. I'll be hoping for a 2 score Tommie lead by half or look out. It should be a great game. I wish I could be there. I do believe regardless of how tomorrow goes, both teams will be playoff bound when all the smoke clears!

This is basically my thought. I want to avoid a close game.

Fr. Matthew was a Chemistry prof at SJU when I was a student. On the subject of whiskey he stated that you should always go for the green (bonded whiskey had a green tax stamp back then). When asked if that meant it was good, he replied 'No that just means it's not bad'.   :D

With my Irish heritage, & after spending my last semester of college studying abroad in Ireland, I am partial to Jameson. On that MiacMan & I can agree.
