Mr. Ypsi

Obviously UST @ SJU is the game of the week, not only in the MIAC but in all of D3, and would get the vast majority of posts.  But based on the posts this week, should I assume all other MIAC teams are on a bye week?! :o ;D

With the first snowflakes flying this morning in northwest Iowa, my intention was not to offend any, but rather poke fun at St Thomas. Credit to St Thomas for stepping up their level of play & making the Johnnie/Tommie matchup the best rivalry in Division III! Obviously the winner will be the AQ entrant to the playoffs, but the loser should certainly earn a berth as well! I wish the committee would do away with the conference winner earning the AQ as there are a ton of top quality teams that get left out while teams from very weak conferences make the field.

Not offended in the least, just noting that this is a place I come to escape the politics of the rest of the world/internet and I'd rather not know any of y'alls political perspectives or share my own. I'd be happy to diagnose and solve the world's problems over a nice glass of bourbon though, even with the Johnnies.

I like the "every conference winner has a shot" model. And if the loser tomorrow takes care of business the rest of the season, they will have a chance to prove their worth in the playoffs by winning a few games.

Bourbon. Great point! I'm going to get the wife to drive tomorrow.
Pappy Van Winkle?  ;)

I've only had the pleasure once. Back when I was in North Dakota the owner of Happy Harry's would send out an email to his regulars letting them know when he got a few cases. There'd be a line around the parking lot. Of course, this was shortly after the distillery burned down and there was a shortage.

Best bourbon I've ever had.

Usually I just grab a bottle of Bulleit, but lately I've been into Four Roses and Tin Cup.

Give Elijah Craig a taste. I bought it once on sale and have been a fan ever since.

My eldest son has narrowed down his college search to SJU and UST, with an outside chance of Concordia-Moorhead.  Looking at accounting or possibly being an actuary (which UST has an excellent program, SJU does not).  Tonight at dinner he said maybe he will make his decision by whoever wins tomorrow's game.

Bringing the entire family tomorrow, so that should push attendance over 14,000.

Good luck, Bobby. And for the sake of your son I hope the Johnnies win.

In my younger days, I would sometimes tell ladies I was an actuary. It worked pretty well to stifle talk about my occupation - until I met one who worked in HR, and was in charge of their Insurance.

I've worked with a lot of actuaries over the years and this is the first time I've ever heard of someone using that occupation as a pickup line!

With my Irish heritage, & after spending my last semester of college studying abroad in Ireland, I am partial to Jameson. On that MiacMan & I can agree.
Teeling is a much better Irish whiskey.

Not speaking for anyone else in the MIAC Mr. Ypsi, but for myself, I enjoy the banter.

Bethel travels down to St. Olaf tomorrow and I expect the Royals to knock the Oles down a peg and give them their first loss of the season.

Like MUC57 wishes for Mount Union, I wish the Royals had a rivalry game every year, like some of the other teams in the MIAC and elsewhere around the country. Pat mentioned a few years back that one possibility might be with Wheaton from the CCIW. Who knows what might come to fruition?

Johnnies will need the following and then some to win tomorrow:
1. Offensive line and running game needs to get better by 1pm...they don't need to gain 100 yards...50 would help.
2. Erdmann needs to have the game of his college career.
3. Johnnies need to throw vertical routes down the middle of the field and take advantage of U$T aggressive D...to do this the o-line has to give Erdmann a pocket.
4. Auger and Streit need to have a big afternoon.
5. Pass defense needs to be on point...it has been suspect a couple of times this season.
6. Johnnies need to get the breaks...turnovers and hope the Tom$ give up some yards on penalties.

It's officially game day in the central time zone—

Let's Go Johnnies!
Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

Johnnies and Tommies

The day has finally arrived. After lots of back and forth on this board, today is game day. Two great schools, two football teams and the respect of a nation. The hope is for a good, hard played, injury free game with the better team emerging victorious.
There will be a winner in the game. Not sure there will be a loser. Good luck to both teams. 🏈
