The fellas at SSQTCH put together footage of the field storming post-Johnnie-Tommie with the climax to Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqBGKFTmN2c

I thought it was kind of funny how moments after the first few fans entered the field the student event staff--in their neon yellow shirts--basically said "screw it, my job is done for the day" and joined in the craziness.

They removed the gates with a few minutes to go, so I think they knew it was happening and just tried to facilitate it safely.

Somebody ought to alert the MIAC and they can fine SJU appropriately for unsafe conduct.

(See Iowa State's fine notice after beating West Virginia for reference. And for further similarities, the last time ISU had beat WVU was in 2013. Sound familiar?)

I was glad that little brother upset West Virginia! Actually since Campbell took the helm I've softened my distaste for the Clowns & pull for them when they're not playing the Hawkeyes in large part due to his ties to Division III! As for St Thomas, they're 13-27 against St John's in my lifetime. 7 of St John's losses to St Thomas have come since '10 after the Tommies not having won a game in the series since '97. The Tommie faithful should be thankful for Glenn just as Iowa St's fans should be thankful for Campbell! What other coaches could've done so well with such programs that had been bottom dwellers?

From the OAC board, something fun for us to banter about:

Was reading the Toledo Blade newspaper this morning and in the article of BGSU replacing the fired head coach, on the list of possible hires was Glenn Caruso, Head Coach of Division 3 St Thomas.

He's been with the Toms for a decade.  Try as some of us have for that period to find him a new job, he hasn't gone anywhere.  And, I doubt he would go to Bowling-freaking-Green.

Although, a more tempting prospect would be if P.J. Fleck can't get his rowboat to work in the Mississippi River, and he is subsequently asked to establish port elsewhere.  Glenn wouldn't have to uproot his family.  Just a quick trip down I-94 to get to work.

Outside of the Gophers or a marquee/blue blood FBS program coming at him with some serious moolah, I doubt there is any real danger of Caruso leaving.

Agreed.
I wonder if he'd ever be tempted by a D1 coordinator gig, if the geography was right. I don't think he's going anywhere though, with a kid in high school now and a wife battling cancer.

BGSU's former coach had a base annual salary of $437k (and a bit).  I don't know what Caruso makes at St. Thomas, but it probably isn't that.  I think Leipold went to Buffalo on a deal that started at $400k/year.  So that seems to be the market for MAC coaches.  Not shabby.

I think the thing at ANY FBS school that might want to reach into D-III is that your AD has to cash in so much "just trust me on this one" capital to do it.  Like all of the capital.  Leipold's D-III record is second to none (or maybe one...I'd have to double check).  He needed six titles in nine seasons to make that leap to FBS.  Caruso has done exceedingly well, but even he doesn't have that résumé.  And now after BGSU flamed out with an unexperienced position coach, they probably aren't going to get too experimental with the next hire.  I'd guess their next coach is either a FBS retread (Bo Pellini anyone?) or a highly regarded coordinator from a P5 school.

Beyond something with the Gophers, I doubt it.  By all credible accounts, he seems quite content in the Twin Cities.

As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

SJU/STO game notes are out.  STO stacks up well stats-wise.  They have had a good season.  With the emotional coming off from this last week plus an Ole side looking to impress, this could be a danger game.

IDK - BU handled them fairly easily last week. I'm thinking the Johnnie bench gets emptied.

I'm back home, by the way.  36 hours from leaving the folk's place up in Rapids until I walked into my own front door.  That includes a 17 hours and 10 minutes direct flight from Dallas to Sydney.  What a killer that was.

It was the same journey on the flight over but didn't seem as hard.  I'm beat.   And I've got a work event in four hours.  Bugger me.  I need a holiday.

Years ago when I had more miles than money (not much has really changed), I flew wife and 8 yo Repete Jr Down Under to meet me after a month working there. The miles were on Continental so it went BWI-IAH-HNL-Guam-CNS ... and back. Felt real bad that I was in Qantas business.

That's a real journey. Australia/New Zealand is one of the only places out of the U S I would like to go, (maybe a golf trip to Ireland/Scotland) but that's a daunting task.

Humble pie is best eaten fresh.

Celebration is great. Put downs not so much.

I'm neutral. It's been a great week for SJU and D3 Football. Let it ride.

Did I miss the Rev posting something after the game other than Congratulations and great game Johnnies? Or are we focusing on Tommie Johnnie week Johnnie Tommie week shenanigans still?

It's vileness from it's first post merited this comment.

We've got a real charmer on our hands. Stanbob's decided to give dehumanizing another poster a go. Today he says I'm a "vile," subhuman "it." What's next? Tomorrow he'll say I killed Christ, and call for a final solution. Looks like someone's riding so high on a win that they've lost the plot...

I legitimitaly accused you of being vile, only your ego could enlarge that.  "It" is a generic mark as I do not know your gender.  No need to ride high until the playoffs.  Let some more of your inflated air out.

Some great golf down there too, Ret. A few years after my Aussie trip I snagged a dirt cheap RT fare ($499) to Auckland. The only condition was you had to fly on the first anniversary of 9/11. Airports were deserted.

But NZ (insert rebuttal by Oz here) was great. I spent 10 days in a camper van and found a rural links course along 90-mile Beach. Only saw one other golfer all day ...except for the bar, where a bunch of locals regaled me about what a jerk Steve Williams, a local, was.
