I heard Bud Grant has a garage sale-maybe from there?

Lots of jokes, but I hear this is a real thing. If that's the case, does anyone notice that UST is receiving superior equipment?

Well, jamto, you tried to argue that me using the term coed was politically incorrect and possibly rude.  Surely your #triggers are going off like popcorn now.

Nah, my trigger is pretty light. I would have to read it 50-60 more times in the context of stupid jokes when there was a perfectly accurate non-antiquated alternative available before I said anything.

This softball just lobbed up there to be hit over the fence.  I'll resist the temptation.  (said no Tommie coed ever.  Doh!)

I'd be really surprised if this was the case. Honestly, an NFL team doesn't have better pads than a typical D1 team. And there's no reason a well funded D3 team can't have pads as nice as any D1 program. Especially helmets. Used helmets aren't something you actually want, unless they've been reconditioned. Again, the helmets the Vikings wear and are sold by their reps are the same ones being offered for sale at every level of football. All to say, if it is happening, it just means UST is getting used equipment from the Vikes that every other MIAC team has the chance to buy new. But maybe that's how they afford Glenn's salary  ??? 8-)

One caveat is that the NFL is forcing their players into safer helmets. They are phasing out the old style helmets that many veteran players still prefer (probably because it's what they've always worn). But basically the clock is running and in a year or two all NFL players will have to wear a helmet that meets the NFL's new safety standards. FWIW, those helmets are not special NFL helmets, it's the helmets available to every high school and college team, it's just the NFL mandating the options that get the highest rating in the NFL's testing.

Royals are stiffed, IMO, as they only got 22 points and are the sixth team out of the top 25. Beat the Tommies and they jump to the top 15 overnight from virtually nowhere.

Maybe, but I'm guessing that most voters just see the score vs SJU and assume that it was a thumping, and don't look further into it to recoginze that it was actually pretty competitive.

I doubt they really care (I don't), being that as you pointed out, the last game of the regular season is effectively the playoffs for them anyway, so it all comes down to TCOB in that game in order to get into the official playoffs.

I'm guessing the UST will be plenty tuned up for that game though, so it would be tough sledding to knock off the Tommies.  Happy to see BU even potentially having the opportunity (Assuming they dispose of Hamline and Augsburg) going into the last game of the year, given the past few seasons middling results.

I agree 100% with this statement.

^^ Agreed with GoldandBlue and Duff

I'd much rather not be ranked in the Top 25 and beat UST to close out the season, than be ranked in that 20-25 range heading into the game and lose a close one.

Bottom line, a one loss UST or Bethel are not getting left out of the playoffs. UST will have plenty of name swag. Bethel has a monster SoS and will have really solid results against RRO. If Simpson can win out that's a major feather for Bethel as well. But the ARC is a log jam of crazy tie scenarios right now for the Pool A bid.

My concern vs UST is that the weakness SJU exploited (throwing it all over the field) is not BU's strength this year. This is an old school BU team, ala Wetzel and Aakre years. Very physical and athletic D, very good OLine play. Very physical runner at QB and solid RB's. We've won those kind of games against UST in the past. But my guess is it'll be a blood bath kinda game. BU does have some nice WR options, but Roste's forte is his ability as a runner to set up the pass.

Should be a fun final stretch.

Cool to see Zylstra record his first NFL reception yesterday.  Would be fun to see him catch on with a bigger role.

Does anyone know if Griffin Neal still trying to play footballl, or did he hang it up?

Agreed. Was pretty great to see that.

I think with one more offseason and the decision as to whether-or-not to re-sign Laquon looming we'll be seeing Zylstra as a regular 3rd WR in the Vikes offense this time next year.

One thing I do know though, if I'm Thielen's agent, I'm telling him not to play another snap next year until his deal is restructured. He is comically underpaid by NFL standards.

Crazy how fast that turned.  At the time, it was a solid deal for him...

Many Football teams have a standard as to how many times they will recondition pads and helmets before disposing of them, even if the pads or helmets are still in good playing condition (manufacture will let you know if a set of shoulder pads or helmet can't be reconditioned).  I was able to pick up a set of Douglas Mr. DZ shoulder pads on Ebay that were surplused from the University of Kentucky and I had them refurbished by Douglas.  They commented that they still had a number of refurbishments left in them and that the shell was in excellent shape.  I would guess that most D3 schools do not have the budget to purchase many sets of shoulder pads each year.  A 100 sets of top of the line pads would be north of $40K - easy for a D1 Power 5 conference school to fund, a bit pricey for any of the MIAC schools.  With the spotlight on concussions most schools would probably be best served in stepping up the recycling of helmets.

So here's what I heard from a buddy whose son has recently attended a number of recruiting days. They're focused on small DI and DII programs, but they also visited UST. The staff at UST mentioned that players receive top of the line equipment that's donated by the Vikings. They explained that this arrangement was established by staff who have moved back and forth between UST and the Vikings. Apparently the Vikings players go through a ton of equipment, with some getting fitted out with brand new pads every few games. This generates a mountain of barely used equipment that the Vikings give to UST.
