So I'm a member of the Minneapolis Club, and we try to stay/dine there whenever we're in town. There are always plenty of UST folks at the club; not so much when it comes to SJ2 folks. Maybe they're up in Collegeville, busily polishing their trophies...

Ah, the old Minneapolis Club.  I see they let the womens in through the front door now days.  They can even become members.  Very good for them.

So SJ2 is known to be UST-lite when it comes to academics. Now that they've bested UST in football, is it safe to call them a school for jocks?
Not according to US News & World Report
https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/mn

You probably want to apologize to the rest of the MIAC except for Concordia.

I am sure with your wonderful SJ2 education you are bright enough to know that those rankings are in different categories. For example, UST is in a National universities category which includes over 300 schools including Harvard, Princeton, etc while the other schools are ranked in Regional University or National Liberal Arts categories which are smaller.
National Universities 312
National Liberal Arts 233

Here's a list that actually compares apples to apples:

https://www.forbes.com/top-colleges/list/

Oh my goodness, the academic card ... last refuge of the vanquished.

(And, of course, every college ranking report has a formula that can be gamed, including the "apples to apples" Forbes report. Same goes, BTW, for the Wall Street Journal/Higher Ed Times ranking which has SJU 89 spots higher than USTD.)

I was merely responding to the Johnnie here, not Rev. I would prefer to leave the academic dick measuring to the off-season, but at least if we are debating it we can keep our ranking criticisms grounded in reality and logic, and not based on SJU being the #8 ranked institution while UST is #130, ignoring that SJU is 8th in the MIAC while the other ranking is based on a national comparison.

Give a choice between the snobs or the slobs I'll take the latter.

I can't believe I forgot to mention this after the J/T game, but I was a bit preoccupied with John's passing.

What is up with the Tommie pajama crew and their little linked-arm dance that they do for kickoffs?  It was comical!

A tradition unrivaled...

I think they're known as the JV and practice squad?   ;D

But what's with their little dance?

I guess I missed it on the Stretch live stream.

Could you describe what the Toms traveling pajama party was doing during the kickoff?

Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

Mr.MIAC

Wow, now the Johnnies are obsessing over young Tommies dancing in their pajamas. Do the Bennies know about this fetish? I assume the guys over at Linfield are well aware.

My subconscious had been nagged for a while by this similarity and it just popped to the front of my mind the association that was percolating in the depths.

Separated at birth?  Jackson Erdmann and Barry Gibb (of Bee Gees fame).

Cool to see Zylstra record his first NFL reception yesterday.  Would be fun to see him catch on with a bigger role.

Does anyone know if Griffin Neal still trying to play footballl, or did he hang it up?

G&BBU: Sparked my curiosity, and I did a very cursory dig on Griffin Neal (as in Google=>Wikipedia). There isn't much since being on the Saints practice squad in 2016 to be found, though he is noted to be a free agent. Seems like a hang up.

In other business, congrats to Bethel on a shockingly huge win over my Cobbers last weekend. I froze my face at that game, but wasn't as iced as the Cobbers. BU is simply a bigger and stronger team this year. I felt at Gustavus, the Cobbers were simply inexplicably uninspired and doubled over. Versus BU they did seem to have fight, but were just outpushed. BU has a nice team this year and I look forward to seeing how they do against UST.

Cobber offense just doesn't have enough punch, and they aren't running all the dimensions of the option as well as in years past. They don't have that ability to get 4 yards on first down with a bruising run up the gut...getting 0-2 yards on first down sets them up poorly. Kragness does a lot well at QB, but doesn't seem to want to be the running option as much as some of the previous QBs who were able to open the offense up.

That said, I expect they will have enough fight this weekend to beat a generous 30.5 spread at home against SJU, but it is an off year. Maybe the Johnnies will lighten up a notch when they see the red "John" stickers on the back of the Cobber helmets.  :)
If the human brain were so simple that we could fully understand it...we would be so simple that we couldn't.

Are St. Thomas and St. John's competing for the same students?  From my perspective they seem like different institutions that attract/recruit different kinds of students.  Regardless, boasting about supposed academic excellence based off of college ranking lists seems ridiculous.  This is a football board; if anyone wants to brag about their academic "prowess" there are other websites where you can do that.

Now back to football: corn hole, what's the deal with Concordia this year?  Have they been dealing with some injuries?  Is Kragness just not as good as the QBs of the past?
