And what's a deer stand? Is that like a roadside stand for deer to get food or beverage?
A deer stand is an elevated shooting platform for observing & killing deer. They first started out as being platforms in trees (simple 2x4 construction) and have evolved to be free standing structures to hide the hunter but also protect from the elements so you can sit there all day. I have a small heater, swivel chair & table in mine. I bring food & water so I can sit from before sunrise until sun set. If I do it right, it doesn't take that long!  ;D
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

I did not know the state bird was the loon. Things are falling into place now and making sense. Thanks for the tip!

Now here's a Kiwi that should live in Minnesota.  Bred tough.

New Zealand doctor James Grant fights off shark, stitches wounds, then heads to the pub

QuoteWarren Bevin was behind the bar at the Colac Bay Tavern.

He said he helped administer anaesthetic when Dr Grant arrived at the pub.

"Yeah, a few Speight's and that was the best anaesthetic you can get," he said.

"It was sort of unheard of to walk in the bar and ask for something to mop the blood up with [and] then have a beer."

Wow, Crocodile Dundee comes to life! Pretty cool!

Wow! You guys in Minnesota are a different breed. The Rev MIAC was discussing hunting clothes. You all have talked about your hunting and fishing exploits. Much has been said on different beers. Once, I saw a discussion of the various hunting weapons! You go camping and are real outdoor types.
I'm beginning to think those of us in Ohio are living in a closet. What a bunch of Mamsy-Pansy's (sp) we are!
I think in my next life, I'll live in Minnesota and go to school at St. John's, I mean, go to school at St. Thomas, er, maybe go to school at Bethel or even .........! Never mind. Go Everybody!

Muc57 - and...  some of us fix our own vehicles and do our own remodeling (put an alternator in the wife's car yesterday and have been reconfiguring my hunting camper - hope to get it done before opener next weekend.)

MUC57, not only are there deer stands properly placed up here, but we have concerned citizens making sure that "deer crossings" are put in safe areas for deer to cross roads:

Carnage in the top 25 with 10th, 11th, 18th, and 20th losing while 14th and 24th are under significant pressure.

I reckon BU has to be in the top 25 in this week's poll.  They are a very solid team.

A great victory for the Johnnies today against a pride-filled and determined Cobber team.  It came down to the little cream on top as the Johnnie D forced turnovers (4) and the Johnnie offense took the chances given to them under continual pressure and effort (until the end when the Cobbers finally let off).

But it was a contest as expected.  The Cobbers brought their best game and challenged.  The Cobber O pushed and ran that option for 3-4 every play.  They kept the Johnnie D on the back foot for nearly the entire match and it was the big plays (two ints and two fumble recoveries) that stopped a relentless Cobber pressure.  The Johnnie O was not the high-octane, delicious affair of the previous two weeks against the Tommies and the Oles but it was still impressive.  Most importantly, it took advantage of every opportunity and repeatedly punched the ball into the endzone.

I would rate this game much like the Bethel game - closer than the score looked but still a solid victory.  I don't know about you, but I would put this as the Jay's second toughest game this year after BU.  GAC and the Tommies around the same and then Stout just behind that.

It will be an exciting close to the season.  Got to keep focused on the play in front of them and they can go a long way.

Central got dropped one in OT today to Coe. 3 way tie in ARC between Simpson, Dubuque, and Wartburg. Simpson and Dubuque to play next week. If Simpson wins, they're likely Pool A rep from the ARC and probably regionally ranked. Big boost to Bethel's Pool C resume.

Which begs the question, could UST or Bethel sneak in with two losses and the MIAC get 2 at large teams in?

UWO's loss to UWSP means no WIAC pool C. Lots of other carnage today as well. Lots of football to play.

But man, it'd be fun to see 3 MIAC teams make it in and make a run. Good look for the conference if it happened and they played well. As Dusty would say ... Developing ...

And they made a difference, too.  From the gojohnnies.com story:

QuoteThe 42 points scored were the most by an SJU team in the series' 38 games in Moorhead. All five previous instances of 40 points or more were away from Jake Christiansen Stadium.

A Kangaroo ran into the surf yesterday and got in trouble at Safety Beach (now that's ironic) about an hour's drive south of my house along the coast.  Two coppers stripped their gear and headed in after it and pulled the unconscious roo from the waves and resuscitated it.  Some entertaining video footage and interviews at the link.
