Not to change the subject, but was talking with a couple of my Johnnie buddies this weekend and the subject was brought up an none of us knew.  Does anyone know where Kurt Ramler went after he left St. Scholastica?? Its like he did a Houdini....lol

It's a big week of football in the MIAC and the West.  I'm amazed how frequently it turns out the decider is in the last round.

Game #1: UST @ BU, Thunderdome at Arden Hills
Game #2: Thomas More @ SJU, sneaky tough game that means a lot to both teams
Game #3: Wartburg @ Dubuque, Thunderdome which can be seen for miles because it's flat in Iowa (yes, they too have a clash for all the cookies)
Game #4: GAC @ STO, the Manpants game, who will be the threat for the top 3 or better next year?  Is GAC the real deal and can they prove it?
Game #5: UWLC @ UWEC, the spoiler's party, can EC continue the spoiler fun and fully ruin UWW's RRO?
Game #6: UW-Stout @ UWO, Bob's Boys Bury Bumbling Ballers and spoil the whole dame WIAC hierarchy

Since I don't watch the Narcissis Football League games I go to the Library on Sunday. Today I saw a book called 'Beer Cocktails'. I scanned the first few pages and determined it should be shelved under toxic and hazardous substances.  :D

New Top 25! St John's stays put at #4, St Thomas falls to #9, & Bethel climbs to #22.

Very tight.  Only seven points separate Brockport in third from UWW in fifth.  The Thomas More games looms huge for SJU in terms of ranking perception and recognition.  What an exciting season.

EDIT:  It looks like Brockport lost six points, one to the Johnnies and five to UWW.

Making the trek from northwest Iowa to watch St John's face Thomas More this coming weekend! Brought my wife & daughter up at the beginning of the season when the Johnnies shutout Stout. If they make the Stagg Bowl we'll definitely be making that trip! I had my semester abroad in Ireland in the fall of '03 so had to follow the season on dial-up in internet cafes.

Oz-you do know the D3 poll means nothing to the NCAA, right?

Yes, I do realise that but I also reckon it's a good barometer.  There are rules, yes, but at the edges it's all about perception.  Otherwise why have a committee?  Just feed it into Robbie the Robot and be done with it.

So I think the Thomas More game will go a long way toward convincing the West Region committee that they should put the Johnnies on top of UWW.  And the more that the top 25 re-enforces that argument for us the better.

Perra hasn't progressed over the last two years as many might have hoped. The tools are there, but not so good with pocket presence, decision making, or looking off defenders. Seems like a great kid, but not quite the level for big opponents. Not so sure Ronnie Jones is the answer for a deep playoff run either. Wonder where Frankl, the Iowa State kid might be. For some reason the QB position in the Caruso era hasn't been true meritocracy, like other spots on the field. It takes a multitude of errors and struggling for the reigns to be handed over to an underclassmen. See Greg Morse, Matt O'Connell, and other when they have struggled for examples.

Secondly, the play-calling took a hit when Killian left. He was a magician. Caruso has a number of strengths as a coach, but play-calling and head coaching is hard to do jointly in a close game, and it shows from time to time.

I'm surprised that someone at the Opus College of Business hasn't picked up on a couple of golden marketing/branding opportunities here.

1.) St. Thomas- where QBs go to be mediocre; we have the data to back it up!

2.)Our play-calling it close games is mediocre; we have the data to back it up!

Well, reading the game story on TommieMedia.com I see that UST always circles Bethel on the schedule. Will this turn out to be a close game and will the QB play & play calling exceed mediocrity? Bethel will come ready to prove something, will the Toms Roll or Get Rolled? We will have to wait until Saturday to find out.
