Too many drives where we started pinned inside the 5. Too few 90 yard runs by Josh Parks.

I think your memory is a little fuzzy. There was only 1 drive started inside the 5, and that was the punt downed at the 1. The INT in the end zone was returned to the 10. All other drives started at the 18 or better. Unless you want to count the 1 drive as too many. :)

Yes. I do want to say that. I forgot that that 4th down attempt was the one that we intercepted.

We had a few punts that we badly misjudged where we should be standing to return, that ended up rolling and not getting a return.

I blame my poor memory on the hot chocolate. Somebody must have spiked mine.

Do you mean that warm water that they stir with a hersey bar and sell to you for $2? You had to spike it or it wouldn't have had any flavor.

Mine must have come pre-spiked. I guess you should have come and said hi at the game after all. I actually thought the hot chocolate was decent, but I have horrible standards (insert UST joke here).

Shows what I know!

I guess I was under the impression that given that the ball never had a chance to make it to the intended receiver - as it was picked about 4-5 yards in front of him, that the UST guy riding his back wouldn't have mattered regardless.

That's like saying they should never call defensive holding away from the play since the ball wasn't going to that receiver. But of course we know that is not the way it works. A foul is a foul. The only time they would wave off PI is if the ball is ruled uncatchable.

Makes sense.  The uncatchable part is the false connection that I made.  I assumed that since the ball never had a chance to be caught due to the INT, it was by definition "uncatchable".

Maybe that's why I never played further back than the D-line in HS.  That or talent.  Couldn't have been talent.  ;)

I'm pretty sure by uncatchable, they mean a ball that is well over/under thrown where the receiver would not have any chance of catching the ball even if there were no defenders around him. If there were no defenders around him, he definitely could have caught that ball.

I feel for the refs a bit (the white maggots as they are/were called here when refs wore a white uniform).  A d3 game, particularly amongst top teams like BU and UST is difficult to call. The teams are far better than the crews will ever be. Put this crew in with mid-range d3 teams and a poor call here or there doesn’t really make a difference or stand out as the play is fairly basic and mistake riddled anyways. But put them in with top teams and the performance level variance between the play and the judges is glaring.

Despite that sympathy, it’s still true the slimey buggers are maggots.

Wasn't the old JG joke that he wanted to send some officials Christmas cards, but he could not find them in Braille?

Don't care all that much about that team of the week thing on the D3 homepage  .... but since we're getting nothing from MLC and Wart AND it involves Brockport, a half-hearted whine:

Their QB plays into the fourth quarter of a rout to get his 4th TD, while Erdmann leaves 6 seconds into the second half with 7 TDs ... against a better team.

Erdmann hasn't been named in the d3football.com team of the week all year.  I'll be pretty surprised if he doesn't finish first team all-American at QB.

But, of course, individual honours don't count in this team sport.  It's the big prizes which matter.  Conference Championship, tick.  And then we'll see what else the boys can achieve.

I don't think any MIAC player made Team of the Week this year, but I could be wrong on that. Pat might chime in.

Edit: Hamline receiver made it just this week - I just remembered.

I had the Vikings blanket and was 1st row (technically 3rd but right behind the trash can area where there was no 1st 2 rows) at the 45 yard line. No daughter though.

Yeah, Gillach and Jackson made it earlier ( ... but it took beating the No. 3 team in the country by 20.) I thinks Parks and maybe another couple MIACers, actually. Not aggravated. Just threw it up for discussion.

VOJ interviewed Gary during last night's SJU basketball home opener. Gary shared that Brinker would likely not practice until Thursday and would likely be questionable for Saturday. He didn't say as much but it appears the thought process last week and this week are that we can win without him right now and let's try to get him healthy for when he's really needed. The good thing is that it gets a young beast like Wozniak and others a few reps if we need them to play in the playoffs.

What's Brinker's problem?  Has anyone heard?  Pulled/strained muscles would be my guess.  The muscles are very fiddley and delicate in there and when they break down they take ages to heal.  Not debilitating but very painful under stress and they take ages to heal.

Issue with his hip. No info on what specifically the issue is..

I say sit him this week no matter what.

I would have liked to see the staff shut down "The Holdingford Hammer" following the Tommie game.  Really wasn't much reason to play him after that contest however I 'spect NB wants to see the field.

As mentioned NB has practiced sparingly.

Take the weekend off Hammer, hit the tub and dream about your next home contest in round 2.

Love this time of year.

I think Pallini made it one week when he returned a kick and kicked some extra points for us too.

Repete,

You need to be warned that a Super Sensitive East Region supporter may jump on you for questioning anything positive about Brockport.  I posted my comments about the East Region on the American Southwest Conference and pointed out how the committee seems to protect a Region that hasn't won a title since 1991 and hasn't had a team play in the Stagg since 1999 and had a finger wagged at me for posting (apparently being a former coach and AD disqualifies me) then was lectured on the fact I did nothing to help these issues when I had the chance as AD.  Same person stated on this week's podcast that Brockport had the hardest path to the Stagg.....the Hansen ratings guy has the SJU bracket and path as clearly the hardest by the power of 10 over the cupcakes in the East.

I was amused at Frank's response on the podcast about which of the #1 seeds has the toughest path to the Stagg. His argument basically boiled down to Brockport as the weakest of the #1s.

I'm sure you lobbied the NCAA just as hard last year for UST to not have to go to UMHB as you would have for SJU to not face NCC in round 1, huh? :-P

Rookie mistake.  You have to bring a thermos of your own.   We were ballin' with kid and parent hot chocolate.  Also, a daughter and Vikings blanket.  I almost brought a propane heater-I regret that I didn't.
