Erdmann hasn't been named in the d3football.com team of the week all year.  I'll be pretty surprised if he doesn't finish first team all-American at QB.

I don't think any MIAC player made Team of the Week this year, but I could be wrong on that. Pat might chime in.

Edit: Hamline receiver made it just this week - I just remembered.

Yeah, Gillach and Jackson made it earlier ( ... but it took beating the No. 3 team in the country by 20.) I thinks Parks and maybe another couple MIACers, actually. Not aggravated. Just threw it up for discussion.

I find that teams that make the playoffs don't often have their focus on nominating players for the Week 11 Team of the Week.

Maybe my son and I just got ours from a bad batch. I would have but you dodged me by not having your daughter and a Viking blanket with you.

Rookie mistake.  You have to bring a thermos of your own.   We were ballin' with kid and parent hot chocolate.  Also, a daughter and Vikings blanket.  I almost brought a propane heater-I regret that I didn't.

Glad to see you were rocking the purple up at St John's.

I contemplated the thermos, but once the kid coming was off the table, I was excited to bring about 17 fewer things and actually get out the door to make it to the game on time.

I guess we should have nominated somebody then.

Hmmm. Not him, nope, not him either, not that guy, nor him. Crap. I guess not.

They did have 29 minutes and 54 seconds of the 2nd half to consider nominations, though :)

Insight, too, in a back-handed way on Brockport.

If that's the rule, cool. Personally, if a site wanted the the best possible team each week, it could include staff observations --  especially since these staffers see a  wide variety of teams --  but I understand there might be unintended consequences with that. Fair enough.

Pat Coleman

Yeah, and in honesty, I have to work with what's in front of me, otherwise it would be kind of unfair to schools not in the upper midwest. :)

We got probably half the usual number of nominations this week. Even I was too busy on Monday to look at the list and tweet out reminders.

There was a coaching decision in the Bethel vs UST game that could have swung things the way of the Tommies that I haven't seen much about and is something that has gotten a lot of attention in higher levels of football. When UST scored to go down 21-13 with only minutes remaining in the game they went for, and succeeded, in getting the 2 point conversion to make it 21-15.

Had they been able to get the ball back, a TD and XP would have given them the lead/win at 22-21. Had they not gotten the two point they would have had to go for 2 again to tie it at 21.

The thinking in going for 2 early on is your success rate is slightly better than 50% when going for 2. Assuming you'll get a successful conversion at least once, if you're able to get it after the 1st TD you're in great position to win the game with a TD and XP after the 2nd.

Interesting scenario. I bet part of the line of thinking was also that "we are on the road and not the better team on the football field right now", so if there is a possible opportunity to win this in regulation, lets jump at it. What is unique about this, as you brought it up, is that it was done on the score before the opportunity to tie it up. Buffalo Bill (Dana Holgorsen) did it against Texas two weeks ago to win, but that was on last possession.

The odd thing was, UST did everything right in that situation up until the onside kick, which was actually perfect. The Bethel player made a great play to go up and get the ball at the high point, but where the hell were the Tommie players? It's as if they were nowhere around the football. Bizarre.

I said the exact same thing to my son sitting next to me. The kick was perfect, I saw several Tommies hitting/blocking out BU players which is good but absolutely nobody going for the ball, which was there for the taking! Apparently, they haven't practiced that play very much?

I'm glad someone mentioned Frank's 'shocking' assertion that Brockport facing an essentiallyball East quad had the toughest rd to the Stagg. 🤯

OK, so nobody is going to bring up the obvious... the 800 pound gorilla in the room, so I will.

Is the bloom off the rose at U$T3? Clearly from 2010-2014 U$T3 was able to get superior players in their recruiting classes than the rest of the MIAC. It seems that time has caught up with the school on Summit Ave.  SJU has gotten their share of CDH players over the past 4 years. St. Olaf & GAC perhaps are getting some too, I'm not sure. Also, the suburban kids appear to want a setting that is a little less "Capitol Cityesque" you know with all the crime & political corruption that comes along with St. Paul.  It just seems it's either talent or coaching or location that has been the downfall at U$T3, I'm not sure which is a bigger factor.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Nice topic, 105.

Personally I don't think the Tommies are headed back to the Rooney days (I sure hope not - we're better for playing them when they are strong) but I do think their easy run at the MIAC is over.  Undoubtedly they put out some very good teams but John was on the slide for half their glory period and Gary has just started hitting his straps last year.  BU was down for a couple years but look to be back in a big way. STO and GAC are very focused on a good product (CON needs to do some soul-searching).

So St Glenn needs to find a way to step up another level. Big lines and blitz crazy defenses aren't enough to overwhelm the top of the pops in the MIAC anymore.  If SJU's complex offence can challenge the big boys this year then we'll be looking at a new formula for success in d3. Big and beefy will be yesterday's news. Drilled and sophisticated will be needed in addition to heft in order to make it out of the MIAC.

If it works out that way then it will be a hell of an entertaining ride for us supporters.

Hey, be careful what you say about St. Paul. I, along with much of my family, live in the fine city.

Bonus points to anyone who can remember what Jessie Ventura called St. Paul back in his AWA days.

I wouldn't discount the Tommies quite yet. The big difference between SJU and UST this year was Erdmann versus Pera. Erdmann took it to a whole new level while Pera mysteriously regressed greatly.

Don't get me wrong, I hope you are right.  Next year will be an important year for the Tommies..
