Bonus points to anyone who can remember what Jessie Ventura called St. Paul back in his AWA days.

I wouldn't discount the Tommies quite yet. The big difference between SJU and UST this year was Erdmann versus Pera. Erdmann took it to a whole new level while Pera mysteriously regressed greatly.

Don't get me wrong, I hope you are right.  Next year will be an important year for the Tommies..
Heckendorf and the Johnnies offense was a big difference, obviously facilitated by a weapon like Erd. I think we will see UST mix a few things up for next year.

I am not sure how much the Hamlines of the world pay attention to UST vs GAC, SJU, or Bethel compared to their own beatdown. Will UST struggling this year unbundle their panties? I hope the SJU folks present whenever other conference mates complain about USTs dominance are quick to remind folks that we haven't even won a Stage Bowl.

Someone in the SCIAC board posed a question asking if Claremont-Mudd-Scripps could defeat Whitworth & if so, would they be able to defeat St John's. "SaintsFan" replied, "Having just watched St. Johns in person this past weekend, I'm going to say they only teams that can beat them are:  Whitewater, Mary Hardin-Baylor and Mount Union.  And they'll be a huge challenge for those three defenses, as well. Johnnie QB Erdmann is pretty special and has a great corps of WR's/TE's he is on the same page with." I apologize that I'm not familiar with easily quoting so will settle for copy & paste until I become more sophisticated with the board. I wonder what SaintsFan thought of attending a game in Collegeville at Clemens? I really hope his insight is accurate & obviously that St John's can take it all the way! Very excited with what is happening at St John's under Gary! I hope this is just the start of a very long run of historic seasons in Collegeville!

In addition to never having won a Stage Bowl UST has yet to win a Stagg Bowl.

Talk of kicking UST out of the conference for football success is silly. Should GAC be kicked out for their tennis dominance?

As a kid growing up on a dairy farm in western Wright county, we milked cows an hour early on Sunday evenings so we could watch AWA wrestling. Grandpa would cheer & grandma would cover her eyes when anyone of the bad guys reached for a folding chair! :o

It anyone's guess as to how ust3 will play next year, but one thing about making the playoffs that has been discussed before is that SJU has at least 2 more weeks of practice and games for the development of non-seniors. I think that always helped ust3, playing and practicing in 2 or 3 more weeks than SJU.
Erdmann needs to get NCC monkey off his back from last year-no matter how he played in the regular season.
Fun times

The world after Erdmann is an interesting question.  I'll be watching acutely to see who the Johnnies recruit in at QB this year and next.  Hopefully, the chance to work in the dynamic offense we have seen bloom since the Tommie game will attract some high-end talent who would like to play that way.

A little Mean Gene Okerlund?  Always my favourite part of AWA.

Thanks for the head's up, Redtooth -- but no need to warn me. Enjoyed your earlier post ... and especially the response. Although he was identified as a "guest host" on the podcast page, he was such an obvious partisan he should have had a disclaimer. He didn't bring "perspective" but pure homerism.

Pretty interesting that the very first thing he said on Brockport v. SJU was that MUC to East, UWW to North and SJU to West would not provide "convenience in the bracket."

Now, there's a high standard!

And, yup, if there's any truth at all that Brockport has the toughest road, it's ONLY because it's overseeded and are closer to the mediocre middle of that bracket. But hey, there's always the chance of a fluke ... right?

That said, I'm a bit surprised Frank surfaced to take you on. Word on the street was that he's been deep in his underground bunker, putting the final touches on writing his magnum opus: "We are Ithaca, Vol. 2: Great Stagg Bowl Performances by the East, 2000-2017."

Ummmm....I am curious as to why anyone from the MIAC would "think/contemplate/concern themselves with the East. This is Mount's world and we allow you all to live in it!

It would be a great day if SJU & Mount would square up in the Stagg Bowl.  We are a bit dinged, but I think we might just be ok.

CMS (7-3) beat Northwestern "Bible" College of Roseville 14-3 in week 2. NW went 5-5 and lost to St. Scholastica 14-7 this year (that team SJU beat 98-0) last year. I might be proven wrong but I highly doubt CMS gets by Whitworth or that the game is even close. I believe Whitworth went 9-0.

Well you highlight the difference right there.  You can already contemplate the Stagg.  We've got a lot of work to do before that's a real possibility.
