St. John's is exempt from title IX athletics regulation.  I assume this fact has helped save the wrestling program in the past as the Johnnies do offer more sports than the Bennies.  Theoretically it'd also make it easier for the Johnnies to make the jump to D1 if a conference was willing to take them without the Bennies.

One interesting factoid about St Ben's and St John's is that they, despite apparently lacking the legal requirement and being administered separately, offer practically identical sporting experiences.  St Ben's has 10 varsity sports programs (plus that giant dance team) and St John's offers 11.  Interestingly, the Bennies seem to have more club/special interest sports.  Girls are more interested in fruitful use of their spare time while the boys are happy to sit around drinking beer and playing FIFA 2018?

I wonder what the outcome would be if university education drifted back toward single-sex institutions.  I sent/sending my girls to an all-girls high school because I liked the idea of them focusing on women's development (plus no making out in the hallways - always high on a dad's list of priorities).  It's worked out pretty well so far.

EDIT: Noticed I posted on a similar topic but contradicted, slightly, AO.  I'm right. ;)

What makes anyone think that this would go unnoticed and that they would get away with it? >:(

I reckon that s*** should be prosecuted as assault.  It's not an injury reasonably expected during the course of a sporting contest.  Unless you're talking MMA, but we ain't.

I'm not sure how this works in D3 since scholarships aren't involved, but I suspect you would find a vastly different number of total athletes involved, considering that there are more dudes on the SJU football team than probably compete in all 10 of the Bennies sports.
I think the way Title IX is structured is for proportionality in not just the number of sports, but the funding and opportunities for student athletes, which is why schools will often offer several more women's sports than men's.

"Unequal aggregate expenditures for members of each sex or unequal expenditures for male and female teams if a recipient operates or sponsors separate teams will not constitute noncompliance with this section, but the Assistant Secretary may consider the failure to provide necessary funds for teams for one sex in assessing equality of opportunity for members of each sex."

Not an expert, but I would read this as if you are providing adequate funding for teams, it does not have to be equal funding.

You'll find differences at evey level but you can't make moves that would make the gap wider like adding a men's team without a women's equivalent or building something exclusively for the men's basketball team.

{{It involves requiring equal opportunities and scholarships for men's and women's sports}}

I've noticed the LINFIELD sports website is now trying to cover ALL sports equally, even during the 63 consecutive winning football seasons.
Parents are paying big bucks and want coverage on their daughter playing volleyball and field hockey.

Looks like Saturday will be another chilly one in Collegeville, but the forecast is dry, for now.

The perpetrator is a JUCO transfer.  I don't remember seeing many of those in the MIAC back in my day. Is this a thing now? Has it ever been (in any meaningful way, that is)?
Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

Also, that hit looked worse than the Todd Bertuzzi-Steve Moore sucker punch from '04.

Man, Yahoo just posted five seconds of video? They missed the perpetrator jawing at the ref on the previous possession:

I could shoot that 3 point shot.
The guy should be charged with assault.
