387 yds rushing to -42 about sums this game up perfectly. Also, 10 sacks for the Bethel D.  :o

This one is for Pat, or anyone else who had insider knowledge,

The official line is that there is no "seeding." No one would be surprised if it turns out that it's UMHB vs UWW in the semis, that UWW would travel to Belton. But is it in the realm of possibility that if it's SJU vs UWW in the semis, that UWW would travel to SJU?
Only if Whitewater forgot to apply to host.  Whitewater was ahead in the final regional ranking.

I fell asleep at the half, not surprising.  Credit to the ML players as they didn't quit in that first half I saw.  They were hopelessly overmatched but they played hard the whole way.

The Johnnies played their best schemes, contrary to normal practice.  They were doing a lot of diverse offensive playmaking.  So, normally teams try to hide their capabilities.  SJU was broadcasting them to the world, presumably in an attempt to overwhelm planning and practice for coming opponents.  I wonder if they are revealing a little more each week.

Regardless, I'm a little worried that the most obvious defensive scheme against the Johnnies is "Kill Erdmann".  Sweep the leg.

It's Saturday night. Admit it, you're already looking forward to the 3rd round.

Nah, an extra couple weeks of rest for the defense before we start banging our way through the top ranked suits me just fine.  Plus a couple more weeks to practice whatever offensive skullduggery is planned.  I'm not impatient (until I get to Wednesday and would like the weekend to just get here already).

Looking at todays first round scores, the NCAA selection committee is nothing but a freaking joke...

Only 6 of the 32 teams were selected by the committee.  HSU acquitted themselves respectably against one of the two 'purple powers'.  JCU totally crapped the bed, but were unanimously expected to romp by the Quick Hits panel.  Bethel, Centre, and Muhlenburg (the other three Pool Cs) all won.  As for Pool B, I'm not sure any of the alternatives would have done any better than MIT.  Your statement does not reflect reality.

I'll amend it to the D3 selection process then.  It's a farce.
Everyday is payday in paradise.

Once again 1st round against AQ from UMAC 84-6. What did we learn, other than starters from SJU got take a seat at halftime? Thanks NCAA for doing what you do.....
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

I look at it this way.  It was an extended, full-contact practice.  The offense got to try out a lot of things.  And the defense got to run out a game without getting too banged up.

The game sucked, but from a team and player management perspective I didn't mind.

Does college include sack yards as part of the rushing stats? I see the box score shows their 2 qbs had a total of -79 yards listed under rushing stats. All those yards were the result of sacks, not rushing attempts. Since sack yards are a separate stat, I wouldn't think they would also be included in rushing stats. Regardless, the defense played lights out.

I tend to agree, but that is the vote of D3 member institutions, not the NCAA selection committee.  As a fan of a team (IWU) that frequently is JUST outside the tourney (but could beat half the teams in the tourney), I certainly would prefer an enlarged Pool C.  Perhaps some variation on teams from conferences who have a horrid history in the tourney need to play a play-in round.  Certainly there is little point to games like SJU/Martin Luther or UWW/Eureka. :o

Just be clear on the villain in the piece.  Much as I 'hate' the NCAA, the Division Three philosophy produces the selection process 'farce', and that is the choice of member institutions, not the NCAA.

Iowa put in backup quarterback Peyton Mansell leading 49-0 against Illinois on the road. Mansell is from Belton, TX where St John's may be visiting if they can defeat Whitworth in the 2nd round.
