This has nothing to do with whether Bethel made the playoffs or not. I am just expressing my opinion of who should make the playoffs, and last I knew, this was a discussion board and we are allowed to express our opinions, are we not?
Th

I never said anything about not expressing your opinion. My only point is that the UMAC Champions achieved the NCAA playoffs. That's it. Quit trying to say they didn't deserve it.

Looking at todays first round scores, the NCAA selection committee is nothing but a freaking joke...

Only 6 of the 32 teams were selected by the committee.  HSU acquitted themselves respectably against one of the two 'purple powers'.  JCU totally crapped the bed, but were unanimously expected to romp by the Quick Hits panel.  Bethel, Centre, and Muhlenburg (the other three Pool Cs) all won.  As for Pool B, I'm not sure any of the alternatives would have done any better than MIT.  Your statement does not reflect reality.

I'll amend it to the D3 selection process then.  It's a farce.

It's the way of the world in NCAA Division III -- this is what Division III is all about, championship access. The UMAC might not be competitive in football but I think SJU knows that the UMAC is competitive in men's basketball.

The only way to make the DIII playoffs competitive every game would be to drop it to 8 teams.  I don't mind that there are some really undercooked teams making the post season as by the time you make the final eight you know we are down to business.  Also, there were two noteworthy upsets today which gave the smaller programs something to cheer about.  (of course St Norbert move on to a spanking by UWW and whoever beat John Carrol gets a pounding as well.  But for one week there is glory.)

You're off by a round:  Randolph Macon plays AT Muhlenberg next week after upsetting John Carroll today.  The winner there would have Mount Union next, if they win.

Also, there’s nothing that stops the “cupcakes” from building into an a-grade contender.  It only takes some institutional commitment and hard work. Luck and history help, but everyone started from zero at some point.

I’m in the win and in camp. There are five conferences, maybe seven but not for 20 years, that can produce a national championship contender.  The conference AQ is an early thinning of the field. The rest of the field is largely an afterthought as far as the big show goes but it does offer a unique experience to d3 which you cannot get from other associations.  And there’s value in that too.

Yes and I believe the really top teams did get in.

Do you really expect us to believe that? So MLC and Eureka are better teams than St. Thomas or Linfield? I'll have some of whatever you are smoking tonight. :)
That is not what I said. I did not say the best 32 teams got in. I did not say MLC could beat the Tommies.  I did not say no poor teams got in. The Tommies and Cats know the score and are not whining. I used the word really very carefully and purposely.

Absolutely.  Those protesting simply disagree with the D3 philosophy (which is due to voting by D3 schools, not the NCAA).

As a fan of a team often JUST outside of the playoffs (IWU), and who would beat >half the teams in the tourney, I do wish there were more Pool C bids, but this is what the schools (not NCAA) have chosen.  So no whining here.

And I agree that it is seriously unlikely that any plausible Stagg Bowl contestants were left on the sidelines.

In the west we’re down to business. In the land of eternal MUC-love they don’t have business until the big game.  If there were ever a reason that would convince people to make sure the committee stays as far away from selecting the field as possible it must be the seeding nightmare.

Great day for the MIAC today!

Didn't even go over to the Johnnie game because it was such a blow-out. Watched about two-thirds of the Bethel game, and changing the oil for my daughter on her van. Looked in on a couple other games, but didn't really see anything too surprising. The Johnnies will see a little bit stiffer competition next week - about Oles or Gusties level is my estimation of Whitworth. North Central is about St. Thomas level, maybe not quite there, so Bethel definitely has the rougher road to get to the third round, but definitely doable. If they keep playing like they have the past few weeks, there's a chance that there could be a guaranteed MIAC team in the Stagg Bowl when the Royals go up to Collegeville in week four. Wouldn't that be a hoot?

If BU and SJU meet at Clemens for the semis it will be the greatest regret I have ever had about living overseas.

IMHO getting spun around and waxed 84-6, 48-6, 52-0, 49-0, 60-0 has no value.
If I was on those losing teams I would be out of sorts until Christmas.

But you did say 'the really top teams' and to me with no qualifier, that means the top teams in the nation. If you meant the top teams from each conference, then that is what you should have said.

Under the current system, yes, they deserved to be in the playoffs. I just don't agree with the current system. It is my opinion that there are better teams that deserve to be in the playoffs, that's the point I am trying to make.
