... assuming North Central didn't collect a bunch of film on everyone within 500 miles before the playoffs started. I'm not sure how often schools only have just the three games anymore.

A) True, the internet is forever.

B) (To the Royals) BU really held back against UST?  I find that hard to believe. It was a kitchen sink worthy moment.

RE: B

Combo of field conditions, opponent, and how the game played out.

The field definitely affected what both teams were going to run. But there are certain plays in an offense each week that may not be the best against a certain opponent, whether because of scheme or player matchups. When you game plan during the week you figure out what plays will be most and least effective. And then as the game plays out, you may add some back in or toss some out.

Against UST, once we got up early, with the field what it was, that definitely changed how we were going to call the game. Not that we didn't need all our bullets against UST.

Sounds like its a moot point if teams have a whole seasons worth of film.

If I'm Bethel, I'm honing in on Wheaton, IWU, and Wash U.

If I'm NCC, I'm honing in on SJU, UST, Wart, and probably GAC (given their offense).

There's only so much film you can study. And more importantly, there's only so much you can transfer to a college team and still have them playing fast.

Yea I'm pretty sure whatever is true of Bethel in their last 3 games is probably true for NCC as well. Contrary to most opinions, This game is gonna come down to how well NCCs defense contains Bethels offense in my opinion.

Perhaps.  BU can consistently hit at least 21 points (being held to less than 20 only once) even against tough defences and they have only scored blowouts against the real sieves.  Therefore, I expect them to score 22-28 against NCC.  According to Massey the NCC and UST defenses are of similar strength and BU put 21 on UST.

BU also has a tough defense, allowing more than 30 only once (and over 20 twice) and that was in the first half of the season.  They have been a defensive rock since then and have stuffed the Tommies (a challenge) and Wartburg (less so) in the last couple weeks.

Being there is pretty good predictability about the BU offensive output, I reckon the question is the NCC scoring capability.  NCC only scored under 30 one time all year and that was in the middle of the season.  In fact, NCC hasn't faced a defense rated as strong as BU's since that loss to Wheaton.

This is a game on a knife edge.  Will be interesting to watch (out of one chameleon eye as I focus on the Johnnie match).

SC Times game preview.  A good article.

The Times must have down sized all their copy editors.

ROR: As they say about that chain ... the accent is on the "net."

I was going to buy a digital subscription this year, but the coverage since Frank R. left -- and apparently wasn't replaced -- is so very light. When I was in high school (Stone Age, I know), they covered our little school pretty well, even though we were 50 miles away. Now, the Times' reach is half that. They've had some great folks go through there: Augie, Reusse (I think) and Tom Sorensen, who for years was the lead sports columnist at the Charlotte Observer. Probably a few more.

Don't forget, unlike PLU and LINFIELD, Whitworth is just above The Great Basin on a plateau and cold weather will not bother them.

We were really spoiled having Frank all of those years.  He still does what he can in his new job. I think it was homecoming where he was even at the tailgate interviewing people.

They don't even send a writer to the away games. It looks like they must have a junior person take the SJU game summary and reword it slightly.

Yes, Reusse was at the Times. That's where he hooked up with Augie.

Great story about Johnnies quarterback Jackson Erdmann from the Star Tribune. Great promotional value for his Gagliardi Trophy chances.  Pretty amazing kid.

And I thought his 13 TD passes in his last four quarters (plus 6 seconds) were impressive ....

Great story.
