The East is a joke. But at least if Johns Hopkins beats RPI we won't have another scenario like this year playing out again, where unbeaten West teams lose out to unbeaten East teams because of previous years playoff results.

Non #1 seeds that could have won that bracket this year: Bethel, SJU, North Central, Whitworth, SNC (??), Hardin Simmons ...

.... UWO, Wheaton, IL-W, Linfield.

ust3 could have ruled the east...

I wonder if East Region apologist (and podcast expert that proclaimed the hardest bracket being the one Brockport was seeded #1 in) Frank would like to share with us here in the MIAC Board how the NCAA Selection Committee got it correct with the brackets that were clearly flawed from the moment they were done......Brockport and Frostburg were both clearly overrated and overseeded.

Left side of the bracket
#2 vs.#3
#5 vs. #11

Right side of the bracket
#1 vs. #23
#14 vs. unrated
(This overview was courtesy of OZ)

In my best Frank Rossi voice:

QuoteThis only goes to show how truly tough the East was this year. I went on record as saying Brockport had the toughest road to the Semi's given the parity in their quadrant. This doesn't show us at all that the East is weak, just how deep and talented the East truly is.

LOL. Yeah, plenty of teams, some not even in the playoffs, would have had a legit chance of winning that bracket.

Good luck next week. Incredible stadium down there in TX.
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

Play that game again and David Russell would leave a cleat mark on Duff's forehead!

Good win for the Jays yesterday. For those not traveling to Texas on Saturday the SJU J-Club is hosting a viewing party at Jax Cafe. The event is free but we are asking people to register to help with planning.

Morning all, after a good night's rest I am ready to prognosticate. Yesterday the Royals shot themselves in the foot with penalties - disappointing, because they were absolutely not necessary. I enjoyed the North Central play-by-play guys, fairly balanced in their commentary. Bethel came out in the third quarter "lights out" and totally dominated the line of scrimmage. If they could figure out how to do that sooner, and then respond to it quicker, I would think the game would have broke Bethel's way sooner - which is kind of a "duh" statement in retrospect. Looking forward to the Warhawks next weekend. To stay in the game, it is my estimation that BU will have to play with no mistakes, Kilgore and company have to keep pressure, and Roste has to have the game of his life to date. Simple, no?

I had the Johnnie game up at the same time with the volume down as I watched the Bethel game. For whatever reason, the Johnnies looked a bit flat - not quite as sharp as they were against the Royals and Tommies earlier in the season. As a result, Whitworth looked better than they should have. If BU and the Johnnies had played yesterday, I'm thinking BU wins - that's how flat they seemed to me. They pulled it off, but they were not as commanding as I think they'll need to be to knock off the Crusaders. They have another week to get their game plan back in order. Good luck next week down in Belton.

The East is exactly "who we thought they were." It is sad though that the #1 SEED in the East very well might finish 4th - 6th in the MIAC.

Congrats to our two MIAC reps. Something special is brewing at Bethel. I like their matchup this week. Two similar teams. Strength against strength.

The Johnnies get to line up across from the most athletic team in DIII. The defensive scheme will be a lot of what they saw against UST. If Erdmann can take advantage of the man coverage and get the ball away quick, it will be a fun one.

The two previous posts (art76 and miac952) mirror my thoughts exactly.

Bethel will have a hard time running against UWW in my opinion. I would think that if they can be successful early with a quick short passing game, it may open up the run a bit. If UWW has any weakness it might be in their pass defense. I think the Johnnies could exploit that if they can get past UMHB,

Good luck to Bethel. Go Johnnies!

A good win and a move to the Quarter finals for the Johnnies. That being said there is a lot that needs to be cleaned up before meeting UMHB next week in Texas. I'm confident the Defensive coaching staff will make the necessary corrections or it will be a long day next Saturday. The offense has to keep progressing and adding new wrinkles each week to expand on the multitude of plays that Heckendorf can dial up with this diverse group of offensive skill players at his disposal.

Go Johnnies!
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Very excited for this matchup, and it's always great to host a program like St. John's. I hope the Johnnie fan base brings a crowd!

But I have to correct you on your chalk talk, the Cru defense doesn't mirror UST very closely at all and they hardly ever run any true man to man coverage or blitz either (which I have seen the Tommies do often)

I wonder how much of playing Martin Luther affected SJU's sluggishness. They were weeks removed from a legit test. It's hard to stay sharp when there's such a steep drop in ability across the ball.

FWIW, I think this might be the chink in Mounts armor for the Stagg. Whichever team emerges from the West and South will be much more battle tested. On the other hand, Mount faces less chance of injuries and can even rest starters the next two weeks.

DustySJU

Yesterday was a case of SJU needing to be just a little better than the competition. The game was never in doubt.

Passing attack was efficicient, second half running game picked up and the two step passing attack kept Johnnie D on their toes.

Max Jackson punt return for TD was a walk through the park.

Johnnies in Belton will be a real football game however I expect SJU to prevail. Doubtful MHB has seen a QB, WRs, DT and DBs like The Johnnies. If MHB had you wouldn't see the terribly lopsided scores up and down the their schedule.

I was impressed with the tailgate crew and the home crowd. One of the best playoff crowds in my memory. Enthusiastic and vocal - somewhat out of the ordinary for Collegeville.

It's a special season for Johnnie Football.

How much did you drink at the tailgate? I recall Max having a long punt return but I don't believe he took it to the house.
