Just an FYI,

As I speculated in a post a couple of months ago, I have now verified from a very reliable source that next years 2019 Tommie/Johnnie Game will take place in Allianz Stadium on Snelling and 94. It will be the first football game to take place in that stadium. Look for it to be officially announced shortly after the first of the year.

Nice.  The Target Field thing was cool but this is infinitely better than shoehorning a football field into a baseball stadium.

Agreed. That was cool for a one-time thing. This seems like it could be a semi-permanent solution for this particular game. I'm looking forward to it.

semi-permanent when UST hosts the game, or is SJU willing to go in on a permanent neutral site setting going forward?

Pitt State & NW Mizz St had a similar setup with Arrowhead stadium for a while.

Definitely easier to seat 15k+ peeps ... but I think you lose something if you never have it on either campus anymore.
Technically 2017 was not a neutral site game. U$T counted it as a home game. I don't believe SJU has any interest playing away from the "Natural Bowl."

Technically it was a neutral site. Since neither team never played on that site before, how can it not be a neutral site? Every game has a designated home/visitor. So according to you, the NFL games in London are not neutral sites because they have a designated home team?  ???

The way I understand NCAA policies it was not a neutral site game: http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/ForSIDs/Policies.pdf

For some perusing...

UHMB stats: http://stats.ncaa.org/teams/450417

SJU stats: http://stats.ncaa.org/teams/450344

UHMB dominate the national stats to a scary degree.  The question is: have they padded them in a conference of cream puffs by building a huge program in a minnow pond or are they insanely dominant? We'll find out soon enough.

It's interesting. The ASC has 4 teams at .500 or below. The MIAC as 5 teams at .500 or below. ASC has 10 teams and the MIAC has 9. They are all pretty equal. So I'm not sure that UMHB's stats are that overblown defensively.

Gustavus Adolphus #125
Louisiana College #143
Concordia-Moorehead #159
St. Olaf #165
McMurry #188
Sul Ross St. #206
Carleton #213
Augsburg #214
Howard Payne #216
Belhaven #233
Hamline #239

UMHB #11
Saint John's #10

Total Defense: Both conferences are fairly equal with the bottom teams again.

Belhaven #93
St. Olaf #103
Southwestern #115
Louisiana College #180
Hamline #191
Augsburg #216
Carleton #234
Sul Ross #239
Howard Payne #246

Saint John's #32
UMHB #1

The two teams are very close to each other which makes for a very competitive day. It will be a great game.

Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Uhhh, no way.

When hell freezes over.
The Target Field experiment was enough. No more!
I certainly hope that SJU administration realize how they greased the palms of UST. UST had to be smiling all the way to the bank. Not having to staff the event & cashing the check from the Twins was pretty clever for UST. I can't see SJU doing that again.

Are you saying only UST benefited from playing the game at Target Field? Didn't SJU share in the ticket sales?
Yes
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Yes

You only highlighted the first question, which I suppose could be subjective as to what 'benefit' means. What about tickets sales? Don't visiting teams get any percentage of the ticket sales in DIII? I'm only asking because I really don't know.

The answer is no. SJU did not get dime one from the Target Field extravaganza. UST got their regular home ticket price X 37k. Twins got all concessions and the additional premium cost of the tickets.

I think you are reading it wrong. It specifically states it is a neutral site as follows:

Team A is playing Team B. For results and RPIs, the contest is considered a neutral-site contest for both teams if the site:

Is a venue other than Team A's and Team B's home venue and is hosted and organized by a third party.

Target Field was not the home venue of either team, and it was hosted and organized by the Twins, so yes, it is considered a neutral site.

While I'm hesitant to participate in re-legislating something from 14 months ago, St. Thomas did a crapton of the organizing on that.

Wow, I didn't realize that, it doesn't seem fair. So why wouldn't SJU consider doing the same thing for one of their 'home' games against STU? If it really was that big of a money maker for the school, then why not?

No doubt they did, but from the standpoint of the definition of a neutral site, I don't think you can argue it wasn't a neutral site. It doesn't say the third party has to do all the organization.

Organised by a third party does not mean concessions, parking and ticket sales.  It means sanctioned and organised, like the Stagg.  Just because U$T chose to play this game at a venue that let them bleed the Johnnie Nation for cash does not make it a neutral venue game.

The Pack, until the mid 90's, played home games in both Green Bay and Milwaukee.  That did not make Milwaukee a neutral venue.  Likewise a game in London.  If an NFL team sells a pre-season home game for a few extra bucks so it can be played in London, that's still a home game.  Not a neutral venue match.  Even if it's played in a non-traditional, one-off venue.

Similarly, if the Dolphins or Saints happen to get into a Super Bowl played in their home stadium, it's still a neutral venue match.

So why all the complaining about UST getting all the benefit of having the game at Target Field?
