JOHNNIE MAGIC!!!

The magic part is that the play didn't get blown dead because his knee was down and that 14 points plus the momentum shift means UST is awarded the victory post humously and will travel to Baltimore to take on the winner of JHU and RPI as the committee has deemed the Tommies would have won the east.

Good luck to the 2 actual MIAC participants in the playoffs and not the one in my daydream scenario above.

Dusty, what other play does this remind you of?

That's the one. I had roughly the same view for both plays.

Too excited for the game. Can't sleep.

I know what you mean.  I hope the players are getting their 40 winks.

Well, I had an evening to myself as everyone was out at parties or movies so I watched a UHMB first half from this year against Southwestern which I found on YouTube. I will presumptuously describe UHMB’s offense as big and athletic on the line, fast in the skill positions (and special teams), and they run simple schemes.  There’s not a lot of complexity to the offense. They just ran simple plays and punished the opposition. Ground them into submission.

The defense was the same. Big line. Not a particularly fast pass rush but a very solid run defense. D-backs were very athletic.  They didn’t stunt but once that I can recall and only showed blitz a couple times and then pulled back.  Basically they were too big to push around and just waited for the other team to make a mistake and then jump with incredible speed.  The offense against them was also very basic. QB runs were effective. No passing game, no pocket capabilities so the couple sacks were more charity than line pressure.

If the Johnnie timing is on I rate them a very good chance. 42-31.

EDIT: The couple int’s were charity as well. Poorly thrown balls.  There was one long pass over the middle that was nice. Hit a wide open player crossing.  I was convinced watching that game that UHMB’s pass defense is rated so highly because they defend average passing games with really good athletes. I’m not certain their pass defense will prove as effective against more complex and cerebral schemes. At least I hope not.

I watched a short video on the Crusader Stadium and I hate to say this but I'm thankful for U$T playing at Target Field and considering Alliance Field next year.  Those barns are bigger (barely) than the Crusader setup.  Our boys will not be overwhelmed (hopefully).

I'm trying to wind down.  Just got back from picking up #2.  Gotta catch some z's before game time.

I may be oversimplifying, but OZ's analysis feeds into this as well. I think the game comes down to how well the Johnnie LB's play vs how well the Cru DB's play.

If the O line gives Erdmann time to throw, SJU will have a chance in a high scoring game. If Erdmann is running for his life, oh boy.
SJU practiced in red/red-is that what we see today?

For one old coach I knew, it was almost always about the LBs! But you could be on to something, Ret. And keeping Erdmann clean.

Go, MIAC!
