Quote from: wif on December 03, 2018, 10:54:54 AMWhoever advances from UWW/UMBH will have likely played in two dog-fights against Top 5 type competition. They then will get to turn around on a short week (Friday night final), and have to play another great team to win it all. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, UMU is slaughtering the lambs. From a physical attrition standpoint, that is a huge disadvantage.

No disputing the above.

Also no disputing:

   1)  Geography + $$$ triumphs all in D3 football, as we know.  Still, the top seed is supposed to have the easiest route.

   2)  Re attrition:  Mount Union has several very concerning injuries, only three of which I will mention here.

   3)  Re attrition:  One of two Mount Union stud receivers has one good hamstring.

   4)  Re attrition:  Mount Union's stud quarterback has one good ankle.  Is the same true of WWW and UMHB?

   5)  Re attrition:  Mount Union's #1 quarterback has one good ankle.  (See above.)  Mount Union's #2, #3 and #4 quarterbacks all transferred.  Mount Union's quarterback #5A is inexperienced,
can't pass and, oh by the way, is injured; Mount Union's quarterback #5B is inexperienced, and, well, #5B.  (I.E.  He tries hard.)

   6)  Mount Union's backup quarterback, based on last week's game, is its starting tailback.  (As in hike the ball to him and we'll run left, right or center.)  I'm not entirely sure how that would
play against WWW or UMHB, assuming Mount makes it that far.  (I'm thinking not so well.)

So, for the moment, spare me the crocodile tears.  (Now if the winner of WWW/UMHB enters the Stagg Bowl with a busted-up quarterback, bring 'em on.)

Gosh, just think what the attrition would be if y'all had played any competition in the playoffs thus far  ;) ;D

Don't play the "what if" game. Edward was describing how it is. Maybe if your team gets to be halfway decent, they will have an easier path.  ;D

Well Jam since you started the obsession with staring SJU will be SJU2 again, I will be right behind you in therapy and perhaps you should take you own advice.

Wow, pretty tough crowd. So making it to the semi finals doesn't count as being 'halfway decent'?  ???

A good number of Johnnies (and other MIACers) are represented: D3football.com 2018 All-West Region Team

Kilgore on the 3rd team is a joke. Ask UST, SJU, Wart, NCC, and UWW what they think about him. Dude is an AA, not a 3rd team West Region player.

There was no one on that Wartburg D that could hold his jock. Sacia still can't walk upright after the hits Kilgore put on him.

It was even worse until I cast the final ballot.  >:(

Really?!?!  As much as I hate Bethel, Kilgore was a beast this season.  I think the voters are turned off by his mane.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) - The University of St. Thomas and Saint John's University football rivalry will play out at Allianz Field next season.

The NCAA Division III rivals will meet at Allianz Field on Oct. 19, 2019. The Tommie-Johnnie game, which will be a home game for St. Thomas, will be the first-ever American football game played at the Major League Soccer stadium.

Allianz Field is currently under construction in St. Paul's Midway neighborhood. It is expected to be completed this spring for the Minnesota United's 2019 season.

The St. Thomas and St. John's football teams have met 88 times since 1901, with only seven of those games being played off-campus. The 2017 Tommie-Johnnie game took place at Target Field.

Ticket information for the 2019 Tommie-Johnnie game has not been released.

Something else I just noticed is that his 10-game stats show a completely different story than his 13-game stats do. And voters only see regular season stats, in order to try to flatten out the bias toward playoff teams.

Yeah, I was gonna post about his 7 sacks in 3 playoff games. It's a bummer, because he's had an incredible year and played big in all the biggest moments.

I'm just going to leave this right here:

Caruso listed as candidate for Bowling Green opening
QuoteGlenn Caruso, St. Thomas (Minn.) head coach:

Buffalo went this route — successfully, at that — with Lance Leipold. Caruso has gone a whopping 116-29 at the Division III level, which includes coach of the year in D-III three times. If a coach can win without scholarships, chances are solid he can do the same in FBS.

Couldn't resist  ;D Even though it's asinine reasoning. Ummm, it's not like he's winning without scholarships against scholarship teams. If anything, he's winning with superior resources than most of the competition.

Considering these "candidates" are the writer's own musings, and not actual candidates, I think I'll sleep just fine tonight.

Caruso didn't throw his hat in the ring for the UND job or the USD job, places he'd know how to recruit for and is familiar with (he was even the OC at USD). If Klieman goes to Kansas State and the NDSU job comes open and Caruso doesn't vie for it, I think he probably retires at UST.

His wife just finished chemo, his kids are firmly embedded in the community, he walks on water at UST, he's got one more box to check at the DIII level...I mean, I've been wrong before, but I think he's probably staying put.

Besides, I don't think you average over 500 yards of offense at USD and leave for DIII on a whim when you could easily get a FCS or DII HC job. I think this is the level he prefers.

And Bowling Green already filled it's vacancy too.

Caruso's most likely spot to be a D1 coach is right here at UST.
:P ::) ;)

Geez. High roller. Did somebody in your family go to St Thomas and leave you with a nice trust fund?
Ahhh, no.
Even if somebody had a trust fund to leave, I like to earn my own money. Nobody controlling me from the grave  ;)

In that case, can you buy my tickets for next year's game please?
A couple of conditions, beginning with getting a SJU tattoo for starters........

How small can it be? Will you pay for that also?

And can I modify it with my own funds to either show SJ2 or to commemorate SJ1 for the number of rushing yards in the Target Field game?
I will definitely pay for it.
No modifications. Block SJU 3" letters in red on your forehead & you have to shave your head, for life, so that your hair can't hang over to cover it up.
See what I mean that taking monetary support comes with strings attached  ;D

You drive a hard bargain, but I imagine I can dig in the couch cushions or rob the kids 529s to get tickets next year. Otherwise I can watch it for free at home since UST hasn't taken that away from me yet.
