The offseason is a lot more fun when all my favorite Johnnie and Royal posters (and the other ones too) are parked on their couches on Saturday afternoons too. Welcome to the offseason, which is dark and full of terrors, folks.

It was even worse until I cast the final ballot.  >:(

Really?!?!  As much as I hate Bethel, Kilgore was a beast this season.  I think the voters are turned off by his mane.

Something else I just noticed is that his 10-game stats show a completely different story than his 13-game stats do. And voters only see regular season stats, in order to try to flatten out the bias toward playoff teams.

Yeah, I was gonna post about his 7 sacks in 3 playoff games. It's a bummer, because he's had an incredible year and played big in all the biggest moments.

Yeah, certainly noticed Kilgore every time I turned to a Bethel game. Don't recall Whitworth guy, who made the 2nd team, as much in the SJU game.

Don't play the "what if" game. Edward was describing how it is. Maybe if your team gets to be halfway decent, they will have an easier path.  ;D

Wow, pretty tough crowd. So making it to the semi finals doesn't count as being 'halfway decent'?  ???

Bethel is in the semi-finals? Don't see their name.  ???

All this stuff about Mount getting easy an path, while it might be somewhat factual because of geography, who cares at this point. Nobody and I mean nobody wants to be in the same bracket as Mount. Whatever team(s) that were inserted into their bracket to make it tougher would be whining and crying beyond belief. I long for the days when they moved Mount to east. Mount is going to get to the semis almost regardless of who's in their bracket (90% of the time anyway) The NCAA might as well make it so the east bracket isn't wasting everybodies time and resources. We would pretty much be assured of two very strong and competitive semi-finals. If Mount were to go back to the east, last weeks game with SJ2 and UMHB would have been a semifinal match-up. Start the campaign for Mount to go back to the east! At least it is something that can actually happen!

Johnnie fans,

I have been unable to post for a few days due to unforeseen circumstances.  However, I wanted to say a few things about our game last Saturday.  St. John's has an outstanding team led by a great quarterback.  In my opinion, Erdmann is the best QB the Cru has seen since Linfield's Brett Elliott in 2004.  This was a game of big plays and fortunately the Cru made the last one. Congratulations on a great season!
Anything that you ardently desire, vividly imagine, totally believe and enthusiastically pursue will inevitably come to pass !!!

Officially, I can't stand the money grubbing Tommies.

Unofficially, I'm glad to see them playing in this facility just up the road which is shaped to hold a football field and 19k fans.  It should make the event feel like a genuine game and not a novelty.  If they can manage to get some other contests in there, like maybe GAC or BU, then that could be a real evolution for UST and the MIAC.   Heck, it could even put Minnesota on the NCAA map for a Stagg one day.

It will likely force SJU to seriously consider upgrades to Clemens to match the game day experience.  And that could lead to them thinking about new approaches to on-campus football in order to keep the crowds engaged.  The SJU administration and the monks may look like they are being pulled kicking and screaming into the modern age of college football (and it looks that way because, let's face it, that's what's happening) but they are coming.  The Sweet Season was the pinnacle of the previous age.  It won't be topped and can't be repeated.  It's time for SJU to forge a new and equally meaningful tradition.

It would be nice if there was an expansion of the visiting bleachers in Clemens for us older fans not interested in the goings-on of the drunken students or wanting to prop ourselves up on the side of a muddy hill. The porta-johns on the visiting side were a VERY welcome addition though.

Not sure the NCAA would agree to put the Stagg in St. Paul in December, but they have allowed the FCS (Frisco) and Division II (Kansas City) national championships to be played at similar MLS venues, so it could be a possibility.

I think it would be neat to play some other MIAC rivalry games there. I don't think you could do a "MIAC Day at the Dome" type event because of wear-and-tear on a natural grass field, but it would be good for the conference as a whole if some other teams got a comparable spotlight and an opportunity to showcase their programs in a convenient and fun way for alumni.

Personally, I would like to see permanent seating all the way around Clemens (get some architect to figure out how to maintain the "Natural Bowl" feel and incorporate the trees on the hill behind the visitor side and the grassy slope at the scoreboard end).   Also, the concession area needs a big, big boost, obviously.

And I think a central Minnesota marketing push to make Johnnie GameDay more than an alumni event.  There's no casual fan competition other than SCSU hockey in the greater St Cloud area and there are nearly 200k people in a 25-mile radius (the Internet is an amazing thing).  A game day experience centred on customer engagement rather than alumni nostalgia could tap a market (110k employed people and only 2.1% unemployment in the area) with spare entertainment dollars and difficulty in spending them.

Anyways, I reckon something like this will happen and UST moves will force them.  Lucky for us the Tommies suck so much and so predictably.

I agree.  This might be the smartest post I've ever read on this page.

At what point, if not already, does the rest of the league grow completely annoyed and tired of this. It doesn't really benefit the rest of the teams in league and could be argued it hurts them.

I was perfectly OK with one novelty, though, too. It was definitely cool and different and good for D-III.

What is "this?" Are you talking about the Tommie/Johnnie Game hype or games being held offsite?

Oh paaleeeze, Allianz only holds 20k. UST doesn't have a venue big enough to handle this game. Renovations to O'shag is way to costly.  It's been looked at.  Any additional seating will require total compliance with the ADA which means  a total tear down/rebuild and they are totally land locked. This is  meant to be a permanent home field for UST for this game only. Trust me the only ones making any money on this solution will be whoever owns Allianz. UST is making this deal so sweet for them  that they will welcome it every other year when the Tommies host this game.
