Xcel Energy says equipment failures on power poles is leading to outages all over the metro Tuesday evening, which started at about 5:40 p.m.

At the peak of the outage, about 8,000 residents were affected in the Twin Cities metro area. As of 11 p.m., less than 600 customers people were still without power.

The Anzalone family said their Bloomington neighborhood went dark around dinner time. Like many in the metro, they were bundled up and reading by candelight, hoping they didn't have to leave their house. They say the latest update for power returning is 3 a.m. Wednesday.

Yesterday was garbage / recycling pickup and snow emergency / snow plow day. The garbage truck came by with a guy riding on back  lifting dumpsters in the truck as my wife and I sat in our snug living room...gas fireplace, hot mug of coffee and I wearing long john tops and bottoms and sweats as well. I think the wind chill was about -40...I couldn't imagine doing that guys job for more than five minutes.

According to Accuweather the 6 am temp Thursday morning is suppose to be -26 however the RealFeel will be -22...so we got that going for us, which is nice!

I ran to get some groceries around lunch time and saw some kids out skating on their rink on a local lake.  I thought to myself, "Hell yeah!"

So I've got my third day off in a row tomorrow. I think the biggest issue is that there's no way they can be sure all the busses will start. They will probably spend most of tomorrow afternoon making sure they start in -4 temps. Craziest thing of all is that it's going to be 43 degrees on Sunday!!!
I'd love to have a few cold beverages tonight but as cold as it is I need to drink twice as much water as alcohol to not get dehydrated.

Ha!  Classic.

That’s one angry, bitter Tommie. Two thing made me laugh.  First, when he wrote this: “No one @&$%#*^! cares if you’re wearing a tank-top to class on the coldest day of the year.”  We’ll, obviously he cared enough to write a raging, 500-word screed.  Anger issues much?  He needs a good holiday.

And, second, when he ironicly proved the truthiness of “Tommies Suck!” by using 500 words when just two would do.

To all my many friends on this board

This may be my last post. Wind chill is now -26 in Alliance. Snow now coming down (is that better than going up?)! Winds very strong. But even worse. I'm out of beer. Also out of tortilla chips and salsa. I have my age going against me (birthday tomorrow, will be 83). What would you guys do? If I can just make it through today, I can get out tomorrow and restock.
