A sad day. It makes think fondly of Hitler Wants a Burger King.

Bruno Ganz, who played Hitler in Downfall, dies aged 77

Yes, agreed. Like Steiner hopefully he had his light bulbs and pens. So he was sorted.

I looked for the classic Burger King Hitler video with no luck. None were better, but here's another Hitler vid:

Ausgezeichnet!   ;D

I'm waiting for someone to see "ausgezeichnet" and respond with " God bless you"! But the other 57 and I know. Ist das richtig mein Freund? 🍺 🇩🇪
Jawohl siebenundfunfzig.

An 8 a.m. German class at St. Ben's ... easily the worst class choice of my college career.

DuffMan

First class of my freshman year was 8:00 a.m. calculus at CSB.  :'(

A tradition unrivaled...

An 8 a.m. Calculus class at Mount Union. Gotcha! I think my German classes were early also but I don't remember (see signature below).  ;D

As a Chemistry major, I had to take German.
Fr. Roland Behrendt OSB von Danzig Germany was tough.
Now that I think about it, all the Monks were and most of the Profs were Monks back then. :)

I was also a chemistry major and also a math major. My language choice was Spanish, French or German. Obviously, German won out. (Mount does now offer more languages but they didn't back then). Next best language would have been Russian. Hey, I'm no Commie pinko. (Hope Pat doesn't get on me for that).
Never had any Profs that were Monks but I think my Physical Chemistry professor was a Lutheran. Not really sure!   ;D

I had a Russian option also but there were two kinds of Russian and we were offered the one that was not very useful - not that I would have opted.  :)

First year German was the standard format -  learn words, sentence structure, idioms etc. There was a dichotomy in the second year. You could take " scientific German" or "conversational German". I went with the former. Wished many years ago I would have gone for the "conversational"! Still managed to become reasonably fluent. But, as you know, when you don't use it, it slips away.
Not sure what the point of all this was, but there it is. Always great chatting with another octogenarian. Go Johnnies and Go Raiders! 🍺 🍺 ❗️

I got into an elevator in Sydney this morning and had a chuckle.   There was this plaque that said it is serviced by Schindler Lifts.  I bet that caused a few misstatements when the movie Schindler's List came out.

57Johnnie, OzJohnnie, Duffman or any SJU person

My understanding is SJU is male and your sister school, CSB, is female. But I see some of you took classes at CSB. Sounds like students at both schools take classes at the other school. Correct? Not all that surprising. Inquiring minds want to know, not that there's anything wrong with that!  ???  :o

Oh, almost forgot. Thanks! 🍺

Yes, their academics are co-ed, so students take classes on both campuses.  Generally, the academic programs are based at one campus or the other, i.e. most of the chemistry department is based at CSB, while biology is mostly at SJU.  Aside from housing, it's pretty much a co-educational venture.

Thanks Duffman. I think I would have enjoyed getting a good Catholic education at St. John's. Went to a couple Catholic grad schools (Santa Clara University and Seton Hall) but not the same as the undergraduate school. I have the greatest respect for SJU and all you alumni. Go Johnnies!   ;D

Ok, this had my sides hurting. I reckomend visiting the little boys or girls room before watching this as there's a chance you may wet yourself if Scotsmen make you laugh.

I've got some monumental idiots for friends.  The good laughs are always just a message away.  The Scottish one came from a co-worker though.  Another good source.

A Tommy English test?
