3 years ago thanks to artificial turf (and 60 degrees) Northwestern hosted a baseball game on February 27th.  If they can get 40 degrees in mid to late March they'll be able to clear the field and play.

Yeah, turf fields help, but think of all the high school athletes that don't have access to those facilities.  Sure, Wayzata and Edina may be OK, but school's like B-B-E don't have that luxury.

5-8" of snow potentially coming this weekend -- at least that's the forecast for River Falls.

Ugh.  At least my snowblower is proving useful this year.  It's the first winter that I recall ever having to get more gas for it!  My dad's blower crapped out shortly after Christmas.  He was having a hard time finding one in St. Cloud and was going to just tough through the rest of winter.  He's in pretty good shape for a guy in his upper 60s, but I told him that he was too old for that.  I know he's glad now that I pushed him to buy a new one!

Good for you.  I'm definitely too old to be shoveling any serious snow, but fortunately we have a 27-year-old son only a mile away, and two great neighbors with snow blowers.  A snow blower may be somewhere in my future, but no need yet! ;)

Sounds like you have a plan for the snow. I am also old (see profile). But my 54 year old son was born in California, went to school in Arizona (U of A) and now lives in Florida. I don't think he's ever seen a snow blower. Would your son consider a trip to Alliance? You know, maybe visit UMU, see The Cat Fancier's headquarters. Maybe take care of some snow. Just asking! Go Snow Blowers! ⛄️  ::)

Amen to that!  I've come to the conclusion that it's a necessity now.  I'm man enough to admit that my back can't handle shoveling anymore.

Here's the Duff Machine working OT after a recent storm.

Unless he's simply in the mood and comes over on his own (which happens sometimes), we can't count on him except for serious snow amounts (which our generous neighbors have usually already gotten most of).  For 2-4 inches, I'll usually do a bit, but Mrs. Y (6 years younger, and better overall health) will do most of it.

I'm sure you could get son #2 to Alliance for the right price, but I guarantee you have cheaper local alternatives! ;D

Where are you located? -9 is damn cold. Have you much snow?

Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area, and yes, there is a ****load of snow around here.
I just got done watching the 6:00PM news on WCCO; 20" snow pack is common in the Twin Cities metro area from the reporting I saw.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

That's just too much damned snow.  That drift is almost three feet deep - you can't shovel that.  If I still lived in Minnesota, I would buy a snowblower before I bought a lawnmower.  I could pay a neighbour kid to mow the lawn for three years before it cost me as much as a lawnmower, but it would only take two snowfalls before I've spent a snowblower's worth of cash paying someone to do it for me.  And a little longer grass as I waited for the kid to come never kept me from getting to work like a driveway full of snow would.

I am 57 years old and I still shovel, I like the workout. Been shoveling all year here in MN. I might ask my neighbor to clear my driveway with his snow blower if we get a bunch of heavy snow but this year it has been light.

I am 83 years old and I still shovel. I DO NOT like the workout! OK. We don't have as much snow as you guys do and i only do a shovel's width on part of my walk. But still. Go Melting!   ::)

More power to you, OA.  I use the Gagliardi WIN philosophy--Work Intelligently Now.  ;D

I did do some shoveling this year when I built this tube course in our yard.  Afterwards, I was beat and had to cool down with some beers.  ;D

One last photo.  My dog's about 90 lbs, and I took this picture a couple of snowfalls ago!
