Do the MIAC football bottom dwellers understand that they will have handed the conference football title to SJU if they force out U$T or if U$T leaves on their own to play D1 or D2?
How many U$T recruits narrowed their choice down to U$T and SJU?
If SJU now gets those kids the MIAC has likely handed SJU a national championship or two.
Imagine the 2018 Johnnies with 5, 6 even 10 of the Tommie starters?
I'd hate to lose the rivalry but if Olaf wants to set SJU football up for even more success....maybe thats it. Maybe this is a setup to eventually boot out SJU!
Feckin' Lutherans...can't trust any of them!  ;D

You’ve just made me consider changing my position. If this were a one party town, like UMU or UMHB enjoy, what would that mean for Johnnie recruiting?  Yowzers. I may need to think about this.

UMU and UMHB may both dominate, but I suspect JCU and HSU (and, in the past, others from time to time) would take serious offense in the implication that they face NO challengers!  Just as I suspect that Concordia and Bethel (and perhaps others) may take offense in assuming that SJU would completely take over if UST were to leave.

I'm sure both would protest.  Of course, both have managed to top either UMU or UMHB only once each in that last 15 years.  I'd be willing to give our MIAC rivals those returns.  You have to admit that's something to consider.

EDIT:  And I did notice you arguing with a position that I never put forward ("NO challengers!") but that's OK.

Given all the Doctors of Jurisprudence as alums of all these schools if the vote goes for Tomexit (hat tip sfury) then the MIAC better have their legal ducks in a row I'm thinking.

I admit that I did probably overreact to 'one party town', but what are the odds that anyone other than the 'one party' would win an election in China or North Korea even ONCE in 15 years?  (And I understand why you would be quite happy to win 14 out of 15 years! ;D)

Is the concept of preparing for the future lost on you?  You post these rugby? cricket? lacrosse? or whatever it is and think we are interested.  This is a "football" board and not a "who gives a **** about that sport" board.  Get a clue asshol* and stop posting.

Oz, apparently you didn't learn your lesson from PR yesterday so here it is again. Now stop posting!  ;D

Wow. UST just got some major national PR with a feature done in their gym in between Final Four semi final games.

SJU might as well start packing their bags too. Punish success and reward Macalester for leaving. Cool conference philosophy. Really teaching your student-athletes important life lessons, like, if you're a loser, just create a coalition of losers to change 100 year old bylaws.

The coalition of losers is exactly why this vote should be opposed. If UST does get the boot then I hope SJU and others (but SJU in particular) don't wait for the kick but leave of their own accord. Perhaps just for football. Do a reverse Mac - leave because the others suck instead of your own suckiness.

This is what some of you guys are getting wrong: stating that Macalester is considered a loser in this new MIAC that SJU and UST has decided to redefine. MAC is a great school on a national level, it just decides not to play your game. I choose to follow the Big Ten and the Gopher football team because I want to know that the school is actually committing big $ to their football program. The MIAC is and always will be a D3 league for schools and players that will never compete or spend money at that level. If you want to compete at that level go for it, just remember what the MIAC represents and either accept your role or move on. No need to use words like "loser" or "bottom dweller". Makes you sound boorish.

I am having a hard time seeing how this vote passes.  I am going to guess all of the Catholic schools will vote for keeping St. Thomas.  That in itself is the votes to keep St. Thomas.  I realize that might be assuming a ton.  I also have to think there are 1 or 2 other schools that are in favor of keeping St. Thomas especially with Coach Johnson's comments.

I have to wonder if there have been discussions about multiple schools leaving the conference including possibly starting a new conference.  I keep thinking about hockey and football.  How many schools would have to leave to lose the AQ status?

I guess I don't particularly care if I sound boorish because this total bullsh*t.

UST had some of the worst facilities in the MIAC less than a decade ago. They didn't replace their facilities with TCF bank stadium, they built a functional D3 athletic facility, not the Taj Mahal. It's not any different than I would imagine any other school in the MIAC would build in 2019 if they could raise the funds. UST's enrollment is not much different than when I went from 2000 to 2004. UST isn't pulling their athletes out of the student body either, so I don't see how enrollment is even relevant.

This is absolutely losers and bottom dwellers punishing success. Attempts to paint it another way are just people lying to themselves. UST is a charter member of the conference and there's a vote to literally change bylaws because one school, who hasn't even won a Director's Cup, wins more conference titles than some other schools. You didn't see Bethel complaining, they go out an compete, there's no reason Carleton, STO and ESPECIALLY Hamline can't do the same. This is a total joke.

This, too, is a very reasonable position. And I'm swinging back the other way. I'm sticking to my vote above, one of the four people that said stay as long as Caruso learns to play fair.

Hot tip: "Shut up, losers. You're a loser if you have a different view." Is not very persuasive.  In fact, it sort of reinforces the viewpoint that UST wants to exploit its MIAC brethren in order achieve its own ambitions.

Were this the actual position of UST then they would do better to shake hands and leave on their own rather than waiting to be booted in a cesspool of bad blood.

You say that now Oz, but the precedent is set. SJU will be next, because it's not like the Johnnies have a history of playing pattycake with Carleton and Hamline either. Might as well jump on the conference call with the NSIC.
