Reusse just gave a thumbs down to St Kates and St Marys... If they are out then UST id gonski.  Unbelievable.  The MIAC is signing it's own death warrant.
So they could get to 9 votes to kick without Bethel if they get Carleton, Hamline and Macalester.

The one thought I have is that they may, like with the grandfather clause of Mac, create an exception for UST.  Maybe something that says they can be too big but can't get any bigger.  Something like that may pull in so many schools.

But if it's a flat 3.5k no more and you all suck then that's as good as saying the MIAC is a bunch of ******* and not much better than trade schools without the technical qualifications.

EDIT: This clip comes to mind regarding the MIAC.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pdi_kASSsJs . Only the MIAC doesn't rise to the occasion, unfortunately, and start throwing haymakers.

Well, it has been real guys.

Motion to rename this board the "Mediocre Intercollegiate Athletic Conference." Do I have a second or shall we wait for them to come for SJU and Bethel too?

One of the articles I read today indicated that today's discussion was just about putting forth the agenda item for the bylaw change at a May meeting. But the writing may be on the wall either way.

Whatever info Reusse is being fed sounds like bad news for the Tommies (if they really wanted to stay in the MIAC)
QuoteLevel of pomposity, underhandedness & paranoia by MIAC schools as they prepare to boot St. Thomas is astounding. Or maybe it's just higher education in 2019 thinking it can get away w/ any decision & not be accountable.
These gutless weasels apparently are going to do this w/ secret vote. Head coaches are being warned not to express opinion that might contradict their anti-Tommie president. I'm sending back my Mike Augustin Award for promoting these frauds.

Update:
Reusse confirms that Gustavus, Concordia, St. Olaf, St. Kate's, Augsburg and Saint Mary's are all voting to toss the Toms.

Even if the vote is technically confidential, it won't be a secret for long on how each school voted. The ones that voted to stay will publicize it or leak it...which will expose the total vote result. I gotta think the schools will explain their decision after the fact.

You're correct on both counts.  Mediocre and this is the agenda setting vote.  The actual out vote is in May.  So, there's still time for UST and friends to lobby and bribe.  There's also a chance that come schools are voting yes so they can vote no later and put a dagger in the heart of this beast.  I guess.

Also, that second article mentioned that Mac left for football in 2001.  This whole UST event caused me to read the bylaws and it turns out that Mac is perfectly able to both not play MIAC football and to play it in another conference.  Members have a minimum sports per season requirement and they are free to pick the sports from a list endorsed by the MIAC.  There's no rule saying you must play football. There's also no rule that says you can't play sports in other conferences or independently (lucky for Auggie wrestling).

ARTICLE V. PARTICIPATION

3. A member institution offering a varsity sport in which the Conference offers a championship must participate in the MIAC regular season schedule and Conference championship, where applicable in each sport. [Note: The Macalester College football program has been grandfathered and is thereby exempt from this Section C (3)].

I believe that's a post 2001 change.  So Mac was kosher when they did the football move.

Yes, as the "note" indicates, MAC is grandfathered in. Every other school+sport is subject to this rule.

(UST is going to destroy STO this year.  It will be an unholy beating fit for a forfeit before starting the game.  And the Oles will get no sympathy from anyone.)

If this goes through, would it take effect for the 2020-2021 year, assuming there is no grandfathering or "don't grow anymore but you can stay for now" cap? So we'd have 1 more year of normal sporting?

Well, it has been real guys.

I'll start a normadic post pattern with you guys.  We won't have much to talk about.  Maybe we can make fun of people/things, but it surely won't be as entertaining as SJU/UST

Augustana is leaving NSIC in 2021 FWIW
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

USTBench

If SJU and St. Ben's are on board with UST, is there a chance the three institutions plan a move of their own? I don't know what that would look like, but it would be better pull the pin now and figure it out together than to see how the other one fairs from afar.

I think the NSIC would be on board with it, but I don't know about UST. They'd have a very tough decision to make regarding hockey, and I don't believe UST would want to be in Division 2 for the long haul. It seems like they've doubled down on their commitment to D3 (at least in the media) and any move to D2 would most likely be circumstances forcing their hand until the board inevitably makes D1 part of their long term plan.

For the record, I would be for any move if SJU/St. Ben's formed an alliance with UST to move forward together.

NAIA with a better playoff system that picks the top teams, instead of an AQ system which pulls in four or five contenders and 27 participation trophy superstars.  And bring the other NCAA gorillas to the party.  The clown show on display here is the just the tip of the iceberg.  Be aggressive DIII sporting schools and control your own fates.

NAIA has the same AQ + at-large system to fill their 16 team field but there is definitely more parity.  They're also not seeding it perfectly since each school is paying for their own travel, rather than getting money from March Madness to fly across the country for free.
