We've all made alot of Nazi, surrender French, every college, and recently a new Welch entry into the joking around field on this board.
Bennies and Tommie coeds get put down regularly. I don't recall people getting too offended before.
I don't think the time has come now either.

I do have a MIAC football post!

BDB has reserved a suite for the SJU v Stout game this fall. I am inviting Johnnie's and any regular posters from any school that wants to come to contact  me.

Seats about 20, stadium food, right next door to the SJU radio booth so we could take that over as well. ;D

Heck, even Pat is invited!

Details to come but think about it. Should be fun.  8-)

I've managed to get some clandestine footage (sources will be protected to my grave) of the UST planning meeting just before the big MIAC pow-wow.  This is definitely not funny and absolutely beyond the pale.

Look at how the Johnnie in Australia is trying to normalize his classless Nazi humor. Typical...

No more Fawlty Towers either?  Humour is dead.

Cool image.  Good luck, boys.  Represent the MIAC well.

Let's be honest. Were you all really expecting tact and proper grammar? He's a Johnnie living in Australia...

On a different topic, do you all experience an uptick in juvenile violent crime in your cities during the spring months? The number of shootings, muggings, and incidents of thuggery rise dramatically here in April and May. Yesterday evening an acquaintance was severely beaten by five teens who seemed to be doing it for sport. The police and some in the community say this sort of thing is just part of life in urban areas. I've lived in plenty of large cities where this isn't common and/or taken lightly. Thoughts?

My thoughts? Get the heck out of that city...unless you have a streak of Clint Eastwood (a`la Gran Torino) in you.

That might be in the cards. We live in a rowhouse downtown DC with lots of great restaurants and entertainment at our doorstep. Hermes, Louis Vuitton, et al. (typical Tommie hangouts ;)) recently set up shop nearby, and next week Apple is opening its national flagship store a couple blocks away. In other words, it's a good time to be selling property in our neighborhood. Meanwhile, the crime, corruption, and craziness in this city is becoming unpalatable, especially when we're trying to raise a toddler. Cashing out and moving to the Northern Virginia suburbs is looking pretty attractive.

Sounds like G'Town or near the arena. At any rate, I would recommend Loudoun County. It's been 14 years since I moved from Ashburn, but it was a great community. There are others closer to the city, but the farther out you go, the nearer you are to open spaces.

My BIL and family have been in Loudon County for about 10 years.  In fact, we were just out there last month to surprise him on his 50th birthday.  They like the area, and we've liked it the several times we've been out.

A tradition unrivaled...

Big difference between a Nazi joke and calling someone/some school a Nazi/Nazis. I don't think that makes me a wet blanket or easily offended. I'm not exactly clutching my pearls, I just think it's stupid.

Additionally, Bennie and Tommie coeds do get put down regularly, but in an obvious tongue-in-cheek, clearly facetious way, not in a "haha, they killed 6 million Jews by boarding them on trains, starving, working and gassing them to death" kind-of-way. Do I REALLY think SJU needs a cattle grid on their campus so Bennies don't wander on to the interstate during tailgating? No. Do I REALLY think Bennies need to be milked twice a day? No. Once should be plenty. I think that much is obvious. I don't really even have a strong opinion on SJU other than I hope we beat them in football once a year. I think the main difference is, for whatever reason, SOME Johnnies HAAAAAATE (deep down in their bones, well into middle age and beyond, in a true visceral way that burns in their soul) anything related to UST. Which, I don't really get, because it's just some school 80 miles away that doesn't affect SJU in any meaningful way outside of sports.

Been on this board for 13 years, don't recall being called a Nazi before, or having UST referred to as Nazis before. If you want to know, "Where's the line, then?" calling someone/some school "Nazi's (sic)" is probably good line. Maybe avoid racial slurs too.

As to the Blues Brothers and Slap Shot referencing Nazis in a comedy movie 40 years ago, I think we all have the ability to recognize context. Was the Charlestown Chief's bus driver wearing a Nazi helmet? Yes. Was the fact that their psycho bus driver (who also tore up the bus with an ax to "make it look mean") was wearing a Nazi helmet funny in an absurdist context? Depends on who you ask, but, to me, yes. Is Slap Shot still a funny movie? To me, yes. Does the bus driver wearing a Nazi helmet in Slap Shot make Paul Newman, or anyone associated with making Slap Shot a Nazi? No.

I also get making fun of ACTUAL Nazis (Hogan's Heroes, Blues Brothers). However, I am not a big fan of calling regular people (whether you disagree with their politics, don't like their school, whatever) Nazis.

"UST are the Nazi's (sic)" doesn't leave a lot of room for context.

In the spirit of Bench's excellent post, I just want to clarify one of my comments from a few years ago. I mentioned hearing that a large minority of the Johnnies enjoy f**king sheep. Do I really think lots of Johnnies enjoy sheep f**king? No. They have Bennies for that sort of thing...

Yeah, this is exactly what I would describe as not clutching at pearls.

But look, I can see you are unduly sensitive to what was obviously a ridiculous, over-the-top, tongue in cheek comment.  Unless you really think I was being literal and meant that Tommies are genuine mass murderers, in which case get stuffed.  But if the issue is that you're incredibly sensitive and lacking all sense of humour then I'm sorry.  I'm sorry you have no funny bone or sense of proportion and I wish you well.  I hope you find it out there.
