Chucker, the picture of your hand holding a bottle of beer is very Duffman-like. Well done.

Goose Island was bought out by Anheuser-Busch, not by Miller. I used to drink two Goose Island brands -- Honker's Ale (their English bitter) and Matilda (their Belgian pale). Not anymore, which is too bad; they're both really good beers in their respective categories, and I could buy them fresh on tap here on the North Side of Chicago.

I have two simple rules when it comes to beer: No light beer, and no giving my money to Miller or Anheuser-Busch. Beyond that, I'm pretty open-minded.

Yeah, light beer sucks, but I'm too fat not to drink it at least occasionally. Grain Belt Premium Light isn't terrible (Schell's). For me, I love the micro breweries in all the variety they bring; Castle Danger in Two Harbors is at the top of the list. But I also love the MN regional breweries of Schell's and Summit. Both are high quality. In fact, my favorite overall beer of any kind is probably Schell's 1905 VT. Mmmm. Too bad it's seasonal and hard to find.

What were you watching on the TV in that photo?  It looks like it's an early 1900's setting but I can't pick the movie.  It looks colour, though, so it's not an oldie.  Maybe a TV show I don't watch?  Dowton Abby?

I texted that picture to a buddy a few months ago. I have no idea what that show was. At first I thought "The Tudors"...but the scene is too contemporary. Maybe last season of Billions? I guess there were too many beers to remember!

Edit add: On second thought, that might have been The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon. Pretty funny if you can get it.

Is 5 the minimum number of schools needed to sponsor a sport in order for the MIAC to crown a champion? Right now Concordia, Olaf, SJU and Augsburg sponsor wrestling. Wouldn't it be great if someone stepped up to sponsor a 5th team.
I agree, it would be great if another school stepped up and started wrestling. On a wrestling podcast, I heard Jeff Swenson say he would help get it started.

Kentucky Derby pre race there was a feature on horses names with the track announcer and he brought up one beauty: "Hoof Hearted"    ;D
If you don't get it say it quickly, like a track announcer: "Hoof Hearted coming down the stretch!"

One of my favourites is a horse that raced here about 20 years ago.  Waikikamukau.  Pronounced "Why kick a moo cow."

Wow. Major controversy at the Derby! Wondering what Derby veteran finsleft thinks of the situation.

3/4 of the MIAC baseball playoff teams are of the coalition of losers...oh the irony!

St. Olaf's Music Department supports 16+ on-campus musical groups and offers performance facilities that put most other private Minnesota schools to shame. Administrators see music as something that differentiates St. Olaf from its competitors, so they spend a disproportionate amount of resources in this area and recruit large numbers of talented student musicians. St. Olaf has promoted musical excellence so aggressively that it's now viewed as "the place to be" for aspiring student musicians who want to attend a private school in Minnesota. In fact, St. Olaf has been so successful that other private schools are finding it difficult to compete with them in the world of music. Perhaps there should be a cap on the number of students--especially student musicians--allowed to matriculate at St. Olaf. Maybe St. Olaf should be required to share its resources with other private schools in Minnesota to heighten their musical excellence. Another option is to level the playing field by forcing St. Olaf out of Minnesota, where it can compete against schools with similar musical prowess. I don't necessarily have a solution, but something needs to be done. Music at St. Olaf is getting out of hand...

Oh man, Bethel's swim team could be on the verge of getting them into hot water (pun intended) with those in the MIAC who want to keep parity at all levels.   ;D
