57Johnnie

This old Johnnie has traveled a lot both for business and pleasure and have seldom found it difficult to find a place that serves catfish.  :)

Hey I know it is a long time since I Posted. Does Kilted Rat still post? I believe he was in the Navy last time I posted. I just thought of him and wondered how he was doing.

He lurks from time to time.  He's still a Navy guy and is an ortho surgeon.  We chat occasionally, and he's doing well, as far as I know.

Anyway, TripAdvisor is useful to me, but always with a grain of salt.

Exactly. I'm a combo guy. I use TripAdvisor, especially when traveling abroad. There are totally people who just love the ability to go online and burn a business. Some weird feeling of power for them I guess. The more reviews, the more accurate.

But nothing beats knowing a local who has good intel. When I know the person and their tastes, it goes a lot further.

Aka, GoldandBlueBU is your guy  :)

I've been noticing on Twitter that Carleton has been very active making "offers" to potential recruits. Maybe there should be a limit on how many of these non-bonding and not even real "offers" that D3 programs and MIAC schools are allowed to make.

Stolen from twitter, but good for offseason discussion:

I had to go with the quarterfinal loss to UW-Oshkosh. 8 turnovers, 7 interceptions. And we still had a chance late (until the 7th interception) and lost 34-31. Brutal.

The Johnnies losing at home to Albion in the D3 semifinals...that and losing the 1976 Henderson t-ball championship!

Not being a smart ass, but TripAdvisor is your friend.  For dinner in particular if you're looking for good eats then it's a foodie's best friend.  I'm never at a loss for finding good restaurants in cities I don't know well.

EDIT: If I were chasing a good meal in Duluth I would look for a place with good reviews for local fish or game. Burgers and steak are everywhere. Ethnic food (Italian most likely) probably isn't a highlight of Duluth. But I reckon there could be some great fish or game restaurants to be found that aren't necessarily in the main strip.

For many years have used the book and now the web site "Roadfood" to find good local places.  Have never been disappointed - Florida to Arizona to Oregon to Texas and on and on.  Check it out.  Jane and Michael Stern.

Another good resource is TVFoodMaps an app for your cell phone.  It basically maps out all of the restaurants mentioned on the FoodNetwork shows, great way to find interesting spots while traveling

What year was the Albion loss?

Is there any chance that the final edition of UST / SJU as a MIAC game could be played at TCF?  Given that they got so many to show up at TGT field, and Allianz is apparently sold out, it doesn't seem like a bridge too far that it could be mostly full for the last of series as a MIAC game, and possibly ever?

Would SJU give up a game at Clemens for that?

Probably never.
Has SJU considered the 17k to be at/beyond capacity for the game and turned folks away? Having been to a few of those, I could see them packing even more folks in to Clemens for it. The parking and general logistics can be a bit of a mess if you don't come early for tailgating, but I think there is room in the bowl.

In order to get 20K plus on campus they would need to establish an off campus parking and bus shuttle service onto campus. I think 20k would be the max at Clemens unless some significant temporary seating were installed.

20k is about what I was thinking. Sure, they could sell more tickets for a game in the cities at a larger venue, but I don't think that's necessary. We'll get that this year with Allianz and then one last (??) trip up to SJU next year. A perfect ending (maybe).

I believe 1994

It was indeed 1994....I agree - the toughest loss ever....officials blew a call when ball skipped off turf and they called it a reception.... that team was national champion caliber! Albion crushed W&J in Stagg Bowl....
