From the D2 message board:

QuoteSo I was told by some fellow Tommies that this next school year is most likely the last season in the MIAC and they're hoping to find a new home by the end of this year. There is virtually no hope of keeping tommie johnnie alive and they are looking at applying for a waiver to bypass "D2" and go D1. They understand their chances are slim but feel they since they were "forced out" instead of just leaving, they think they have a sliver of hope. If that doesn't pan out then they'll reach out to the NSIC. Joining the WIAC is not their preferred route and going D3 Independent is worst case scenario.

Walters reports that U$T is hiring two assistant athletic directors. Most D3 schools barely have a full time AD. They are preparing to leave D3.

He also suggests that the Big East could be an option for U$T in basketball so i guess the Johnnie / Tommie game could live on!!

Good grief. If they can jump straight to the Big East that would be a massive paycheck and a huge win. I'm thinking the Big East takes one look at a school hopping up from DIII and tells them to go prove themselves as a mid major for a decade before they are willing to share the spoils. Yes, the schools look alike, but the Big East isn't going to dilute its competitive base, and share its revenue, just because UST is a Catholic school looking to join DI. Those are darn proud programs that wanted to put emphasis on basketball, not football, and broke the DI football mold when they split. Bringing in a program with no DI history, no rivalries brings little to the table. Eventually the presence in the 15th largest tv market might look attractive. But not until UST has the facilities, support, and some success at that level to prove they can be anything but a kickboard.

If U$T could get an exemption go D1 they might emphasize basketball over football...what would that mean for GC? I doubt he would want to play second fiddle...maybe by that point MAC will have established themselves in the MIAC and he could coach back where he started.

On the AD thing, Michelle Morgan was previously an Assistant (Associate?) AD before she went to John Carroll. I don't know that they replaced her and not sure if they've had other Assistant ADs in the past.

I think UST straight to D1 or to the Big East is a pipe dream. Any Big East aspirations would take many many years to realize.

UST straight to the Big East would be the coup of the century. I can't see that happening, at least not until they've established themselves.

Their first hurdle is just getting a waiver to go directly D1.

If UST goes to the Big East they'll have to find another rivalry. They do have a St. John's...

I listened to the KQ Morning Show for the first time in a couple years this morning on a flight to Sydney today.  It's not the same at all without Terri and Zepp and Sansivere (maybe Sandy is still there but he wasn't mentioned in the first hour of the show).  Just Tom talking s**t over the phone with people he knows is background noise. Not really engaging.  Oh, well. I miss the old crew.

The incomparable JoAnn Andregg filled UST's primary AAD role for many years until her retirement in 2014. Megan Jacobson and Tyler Grey currently hold Associate AD and Assistant AD roles and have been in their positions for six and five years, respectively. If Michelle's role was backfilled, it wasn't done so with the same title. So AADs are nothing new at UST, though I'm not aware of more than three being on staff at any given time previously.

Any indication that Megan or Tyler are leaving for other roles and creating these openings (as opposed to expanding the AD staffing as we prepare to take on Bama in the SEC?)

This isn't even close to true, by the way.

Per Charlie Walters:

"Now it looks like St. Thomas, ousted by the MIAC, will not appeal for an exemption to expedite entry to Division I, and that the university probably will end up in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, which wants the Tommies. That option has made the most sense since St. Thomas was booted out of the MIAC in May and will make for a stronger WIAC.

By the way, a logical place for St. Thomas would have been the Western Collegiate Hockey Association for its men's and women's programs had the university decided to go to Division I."

Yeah, I got some interesting photos of my parents' lakeshore (i.e. their yard--they don't live anywhere near a lake).  Mom said they got 4.5" in about 2 hours.

A tradition unrivaled...

Hope your parents are OK. How's the house? That's a ton of rain in a short time.
Here in Alliance, it's been hot (mid to upper 80's) and very muggy (dew point upper 60's to low 70's).
Better than all that rain.
Oh, and where do your parents live? How is your area? Lots of questions but hope all is well!  :-\
