What's the chance the dream job for these guys is to work at a D3 school in the Midwest???

https://www.twincities.com/2019/08/03/charley-walters-twins-max-kepler-never-dreamed-of-season-this-good/

It hasn't been announced, but on Monday, two Division I-experienced assistant athletics directors will begin work at the University of St. Thomas, which is being ousted by the Division III Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Look for the university to name Cory Chapman, who oversaw athletic facilities at Penn State following some work at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis, and Jemal Griffin, who was an assistant AD  in football at Penn State, to be senior associate ADs. Griffin also worked at Vanderbilt under James Franklin, now head coach at Penn State.

St. Thomas athletics director Phil Esten, who was deputy AD of athletics at Penn State after working as an assistant Gophers AD, was hired in January.

Zero. These guys brought Division 1 hockey to Penn State and raised $80 million to build an arena. UST is going to flagship hockey and build an arena. I'd be willing to wager at least $139.78 on this.

So where will the U$T hockey arena be built? I said a couple years ago that they should have grabbed a chunk of the old Ford plant property.

Just waiting for St Kate's to get really desperate. Then the schools merge and we plow down their campus (with a few exceptions) to build an athletics campus.

I'm sure the Highland / Mac-Groveland neighbors will be thrilled to have a 6,500-10k seat arena built in the neighborhood. By that time the Ford site redevelopment should be almost completed and we will have another 4,000 people living here...that will be just great!!!

What about on the site of the St. Thomas Academy rink? That's where they currently play.

Charlie Walters' latest rumor:

QuoteSources in the UST athletics office note that recent AD and Associate AD hires have experience in two areas. Fundraising for the expansion D1 hockey and utilizing eminent domain law to seize assets for stadium infrastructure. The rumblings are UST has identified a residential area adjacent to or near campus that is owned exclusively by several SJU alumni. The plan appears to be to seize these assets and build a hockey arena and parking. For displaced residents interested in remaining in the area, Glenn Caruso's guest house will be renovated into space resembling dormitories in Collegeville.

Who owns these parking lots near UST's Minneapolis campus?

In all seriousness are you thinking a U$T arena for a new D1 hockey program (and possibly D1 basketball) 3 blocks from Target Center and 6 miles from the main U$T campus? That doesn't sound wise to me but what do I know.

I think U$T would be better off looking at property north of I-94 in the warehouse area along University Avenue due the proximity to the main campus. There are at least 4 brewpubs in vicinity and sure to be more restaurants with Allianz Field. It has good highway access for all the "fans"  ;) and would be great opportunity for U$T to create their own culture.

Caz Bombers

Purdue Fort Wayne is going to announce tomorrow they are moving from the Summit League to the Horizon League.

This paves the way for the SL, which desperately needs members in certain sports - baseball will lose its auto bid to the NCAA Division I Tournament if nothing is done - to add Augustana (SD) and then assuming the NCAA gives them the green light that I believe they will, UST probably soon thereafter.

So the Tommies are dropping football? SL has no football option.

Missouri Valley is all state schools. Maybe that changes if Augustana gets into the MVFC. But as it stands, UST would be a super odd fit in the MVFC.

Pioneer League is non-scholly. From a transition standpoint, UST could compete right away. But there's no prestige. And travel would be Buh-Ruh-Tul.

Option 1: SL for most sports. WCHA for Hockey. PL for football. >> Football can compete, but has no natural rivals and travel is atrocious. Also will require a much large jump in talent when a move is made to scholly ball.

Option 2: SL for most sports. WCHA for Hockey. MV for football. >> Maybe more natural rivals (Augustana??), travel is much easier, but they'd be getting monkey stomped up and down the field for years. A wrong-end-of-the-monkey-stomp culture isn't easy to rectify.

If they go non-scholly, football risks becoming an also ran sport, lagging behind basketball, hockey, and baseball.
