I'm a little nervous who Erdmann is going to throw to this season.  Gone are Gillach, Essler, Streit, Auger, and Eckhoff, who accounted for 180 catches in 2018.  VanErp (41 catches in 2018) returns, but other than that, no other returning player had more than 4 catches.  I hope that Gary restocked the cupboard!

I think speedster Blake Patrick from Holdingford could have a breakout year.  He got some opportunities last season and could be the deep threat.

The kids has wheels.  I'm hoping his hands have developed.

Aside from the obvious conference powers (St John's, Bethel, St Thomas) what is the most likely loss on your schedule?

I've been having panicked visions of a loss to an up and coming UW-Eau Claire squad. Night game, on the road, they beat Oshkosh last year.

With a relatively young D, any team with a competent offense and returning QB makes me a little nervous. But specifically, I'd say GAC and Concordia. GAC is good enough to beat any top team that doesn't bring their A game. And Concordia usually isn't down for two years in a row.

I'll be at the Eau Claire game. They have good talent returning on defense, but a new coach and QB on the offensive side of things. I'm hopeful and honestly would be  pleased if we can keep it close. It's been a few years since the Blugolds gave the Tommies a run for their money. Tempted to show up with a sign reading "Tommies welcome here" sitting with the purple at the start of the game.

Always fun to look at rosters this time of year.  Interesting to see a 33 year old Freshman on the SJU roster....living the dream.

I was going to ask who until I stumbled across him.  Air Force vet.  Good for him.  I can't imagine playing college football in my 30s.

Wow.  Good for him and for SJU being on board.

I'm 33.  Can't even imagine lacing 'em up and playing college football with a bunch of 18-22 yr olds.

I'm not sure which is wincing more after reading this, my hamstrings or my back!

Nebraska has a Navy Seal vet on the squad. A little younger, but it sounds like it's been an awesome perspective to have on the team. Gives a lot of perspective to the highs and lows of a college football season, that's for sure.

I wonder how old the oldest MIAC football player has ever been?  Is it this guy at 33?  Will he get there if he plays until 36?

My wife the Bennie and I always "flashed" the "two-two" sign to each other when he came in the game, and they almost always ran him on a post pattern and he was almost always open.  Averaged 24.5 yards per receptions - only 4 of those - but also had one TD in those 4 catches.  Jackson might have missed him a time or two.

Also wondering if one of those young RB's or QB's might end up at receiver?  TJ Hodge had a couple moments in the return game, he might be able to contribute?  Also if the tight end situation doesn't play out, end up using more of the H-back look with the big RB's?

I might be wrong, but I have a feeling the receiving game will be O.K.- both with players who have waited their turn, playing behind outstanding WR & TE in 20117-2018 as well as some Freshmen that could bring some surprises.

I'm all for it. It's good to have some grey hairs in the player ranks.
He's older than two thirds of the SJU coaching staff.

Paid for your tailgating spot? Do we now refer to you Johnnies as $JU? Will the Tommies now refer to you as $J2? Don't understand paying to tailgate. Help me out here (I know, I'll help you out - which way did you come in?) But, in any case, Go Johnnies!  8-)  ::)  ;D

Don't understand paying to tailgate. Help me out here...

There is a designated parking lot for tailgating (quite nice, actually), and it attracts a lot of people, requiring extra security staff, porta-potties, etc.  For big games, people will start parking there days ahead of time.  $JU decided to offset the cost and reduce the traffic by offering reserved parking in that lot.  And now you know the rest of the story.

Here's a glimpse:
