Don't understand paying to tailgate. Help me out here...

There is a designated parking lot for tailgating (quite nice, actually), and it attracts a lot of people, requiring extra security staff, porta-potties, etc.  For big games, people will start parking there days ahead of time.  $JU decided to offset the cost and reduce the traffic by offering reserved parking in that lot.  And now you know the rest of the story.

Here's a glimpse:

Thanks for the info. I forgot that you guys get giant size crowds at your games. We get a whole lot less. Your explanation makes sense, now that I know the rest of the story (with a thank you to Paul Harvey). As you may know, our Mount fans tailgate area is right next to the stadium. Not suppose to begin until 3 hours before the game. However, some begin around 8 o'clock. We do get a lot of people, BBQs, loud music etc. It's all we know so we think it's great. Yours sounds really fantastic. Would love to take part in yours, especially being a huge St. John's fan. However; Collegeville is a long way from Alliance. I'll be there in spirit.
Again, thanks for the info and picture. Would love for our teams to meet again (no repeat of 2003). How about meeting in The Stagg Bowl? There's a nice thought!
Go Johnnies! Go Raiders! Good luck on the season to both of our teams.  8-)  ;D

Guess you're still "SJU" not that other stuff! However, "U$T" shall remain.  :D

If you really want to get a feel of the SJU experience this video really brings it all together...and a cameo from Will Gillach's mom. My most favorite place on a Saturday in the fall and I think there's a few thousand others that would agree.

St John's faced Thomas More (KY) in their last regular season matchup at the end of last season. That was Thomas More's last NCAA Division III game. Tonight they faced Kentucky Christian in their first game as an NAIA member. After being down 34-14, they fought back to take a 49-48 lead. Kentucky Christian went up 54-49 with :13 remaining & attempted a 2-pt conversion, but Thomas More picked them off & returned it quite a ways. Ultimately that score held & Thomas More lost their first matchup as a NAIA member. Was pulling for them!

Good to have football back! Did anyone watch the Oregon & Auburn game last night? What a thriller! That freshman QB made several mistakes but the moment never seemed too big for him. I will be interested to see how he progress this season. Switching gears to the MIAC, are there any big week 1 matchups I should keep my eye on? Obviously, I will be following the Carleton-Mac game (any truth to the rumors that Mac will rejoin the MIAC in football?)

Good golly, the Johnnie uniforms have had subtle, stylish upgrades.  I like.

Red stripe back on the pants.  I like.  I hope they put the number because on the helmets.

Great video for the university and program, thanks for sharing.
Quote- are fans still allowed to take the field after the game? I miss that.

Great video. Thanks a million. Go Johnnies.   ;D
I'm old! I get mixed up and I forget things! Go Everybody! 🏈 ☠

MIAC23

After being cut by the Vikings yesterday, former Cobber Brandon Zylstra lands with the Panthers. With the Vikings rolling with 4 wideouts, this may come back to bite them.

@emma- Yes you can still go on the field after the game, it's actually encouraged. Lots of family photos taken and a chance to say "hi & welcome" to the Freshmen and guys from out of state who may only have their family at a game a couple times per year. It is a very unique atmosphere.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Just in case anyone's looking for ways to get booted from the MIAC, here you go:

I really believe that U$T wanted an excuse to get out more than the rest of the MIAC wanted them out. St. Olaf provided them cover.

Hmmm, You might be on to something?

A great hype video that has, I suspect, a little creative inspiration from Erdmann's previous uni home.

Go Johnnies!

In other news, Fleck now wants the Gophers to "Row the Boat" more like Batman. I really don't even know where to start with this.

Gimmicks gotta gimmick.

(Can you imagine how good Gagliardi could have been if he had seen Dark Knight as a boy?)

@BDB

Good luck this weekend.  I hope the Johnnies come out and stamp their season on the Blue Devils ;) . But I won't forget when UST visited Menomonie a few seasons ago.  I hope the boys don't forget either.
