Football! Looking forward to seeing the Johnnies lose to the Stouties and Bethel lose to Simpson on account of whatever the hell Pat was talking about.
'Stouties'? I wonder what BDB thinks of that? :)

In the context of Stout beating St John's I hope he appreciates it. This is D3, every school which doesn't have a diminutive form of it's school name and the Oles should be kicked out

"Stouties" is nothing new. No problems. The legend named Stout was a mighty lumber baron, as is the history of this area.

Now, I've got several Bat Signals out to TDT and Veek with no response. Me thinks the Joker is at play...

Edit: I'm sitting in my office about 5 blocks from the stadium but I don't want to go this early and hang out in the parking lot by myself.  :P

When I was a lad, Stout was an Elite manual training school. Grads could pretty much write their own ticket.  8-)
The older the violin - the sweeter the music!

Bat Signal worked! TDT, Veek, Retired Old Rat and Dusty SJU are all in the lot. BDB heading out.

Not much to say about the game today.  Stout came looking to deliver an upset and the Johnnies did their best to let them have one.  The Jays were thinking about playoff glory instead of the game in front of them, it looked like to me.

A lot of work to do in the next two weeks or GAC will give the Jays real trouble.

Despite all the suspensions and impending implosion of the Athletic department, Bethel won a squeaker today  ;D 8-)

In other news, Caruso just compared himself to Nick Sagan on WCCO  :o The goal isn't just D1, it's the SEC  ;)

41-0 and a trophy in a rivalry game, looks like my Carleton fandom came at an opportune time.  :)

Daughter and wife are in town now and enjoying Jessie James day.

Sounded like a nice win and glad you got to get in on it. Hopefully things are looking up for the Knights program this year

I know the Johnnie fans wanted a lopsided win, but when a squad like Stout plays a meat grinder WIAC schedule every year you have to expect a contest. I know the Devils players like to play tough teams, it's what they are used to. I think this Stout team played with desire and emotion, and is much improved. They are on the right track.

I do think the Johnnie and Devil offenses showed they are a little behind the defenses at the start of the year. Both will improve dramatically.

I loved hanging with some D3football.com posters today!  Touchdown Tommy, Veek, DustySJU, Ritz72, RetiredOldRat.

Hope I didn't forget anyone. And I got to talk to a high school classmate of mine that played on the 1976 National Championship team. Haven't seen him in 46 years!

Good times, good people, good game to watch. Good luck Johnnies the rest of the way.

Quick Takeaway from Bethel:
1. D settled in nicely. Played fast and physical. Janes at DE is a freak. It hurt to lose Tavian to the finger injury. Hopefully it's something he can play through in the coming weeks and isn't lost to a season ending surgery.

2. Simpson was a lot better than the score indicates. It was a close game until late in the 2nd Q. Very physical up front, but Bethel just wore them down.

3. Once Roste got into a rhythm throwing it was over. Just too multiple when you have to respect his dual threat. He didn't play in the 4th Q due to cramps, but Marsh came in and led to impressive scoring drives and looked good throwing.

4. Bethel's 'Heavy Package' on offense is filthy. Simpson had no answer for it. The last scoring drive was the same formation, just down their throats the entire way. Keep in mind, it's got 3 Gopher transfers in the backfield, who are all really physical and fast. It's just not fair.

Welcome to the club, Pied! It was great to see Carleton recapture the Book of Knowledge. As positive as this win was for the program, I still am unsure what this team is capable of; Macalaster played very poorly on offense and special teams and put the ball on the turf quite a bit. That being said there were some great performances for the Knights. Mack Journell had something like 14 receptions for 182 yards and two TDs and on defense, Travis Brown had a forced fumble, a sack, and two ints, in addition to a couple of good punt returns.

Worth noting, Carleton was also breaking in a new QB who played WR last year. He was all over on some throws, and showed off some good wheels when he did choose to tuck it. Finished with 4 TDs and an int, mainly due to some good running after the catch.
When the backup came in I thought he looked better, but small sample size and all that. He threw a beautiful touchdown pass to the back corner of the endzone to finish the scoring.

So far things trending in the right direction under Journell and I'm excited to see if they can improve against Lawrence next week before facing the Oles.

don't know whose head was further in the clouds today, the refs or SJU. don't get me wrong Stout was prepared and wanted to win. SJU was also out coached. Really missed last years graduates from SJU. I believe we are going to find it was last years team - not this years - that was magical. SJU looks like a 2 or 3 loss team to me.

Yeah, ok.  I guess that's it then.  You've got to work harder than that half-assed effort to troll, though.  Come one, put in the effort.

I'll throw you a softball: out coached how?

A little harder: who are the three losses?

I think the Johnnies will be fine.  The only thing that matters in week 1 is the win.  Erdmann and the receivers need a little game time to gel.  Really need to clean up to the penalties.  It's not how you start a season, it's how you finish (and how much you improve).  I'm not worried.

Interesting game.

Oh, and JW Windsor needs a bigger jersey.  :D

Hey maybe, those were just 2 really good D3 football teams playing their first game of the season. Time will tell.
