I think the Johnnies will be fine.  The only thing that matters in week 1 is the win.  Erdmann and the receivers need a little game time to gel.  Really need to clean up to the penalties.  It's not how you start a season, it's how you finish (and how much you improve).  I'm not worried.

Interesting game.

Oh, and JW Windsor needs a bigger jersey.  :D

Yes, I agree. A lot of room for improvement. We'll see how they improve. It heats up pretty quickly in two weeks against GAC. They'll be looking to get that upset they missed with UST last year.

Penalties are obvious.  A very undisciplined game, which is uncharacteristic.

WR had serious dropsies.

O-line was remarkably not aggressive. Outside of the middle half of the third quarter the O didn't really play well at all.  They basically won that game with only 1/8th of a game's good offensive play.  Lucky.

The D, outside of the long scoring drive in the first half, was very strong. The d-backs need to season but the rest of the D looked strong enough to help them out.

It was a very rusty start. With focus they hopefully come good.

I think GAC will challenge both the Devils and Johnnies. Which is the way it should be.

Out coached lol, come on man. SJU D coaching staff were able to adjust their short coverage in the mid 2nd to shut down the 5-10yd slants, crossing patterns and outs. In D3 that type of adjustment is rarely seen, and to do it so quickly was  phenomenal. Usually takes players to make that adjustment games! Nothing worse than giving up a tough 3rd-12 to a 12yd slant. Great coaching adjustment with DB's & OLB.
Duff, any good NG has to have some belly showing to belly bounce the OL lol
Last big belly NG you had (dumo) it was a great season. Great game, the O will roll and Erdmann will light up the airways!
JW wears the tiny jersey in honor of a former player that passed away.
If you love D that was a great game.

As bad as the Johnnies looked, they were a few dropped passes, and two goal line stands (by the refs, or unimaginative play calling) away from it being a laugher. Erdman was a little off, but that may be due to his new receivers not quite being on the same page. They need to use Trost as a receiver more. The receivers as a group need to watch the ball into their hands.

Stout was tough, and maybe a little over the line a few times, but it was a good wake-up. Let's hope they don't sleep walk any more.

Oh good jezzus,  just accept a tight game and quit feeling bad about a win.

Did you think this was the Patriots against a middle school team?

I'll bet if you asked the Johnnie players they would have a different look.

Maybe in the MWC and the SCIAC, but this is the MIAC. :)

It's pretty lame for fans to think any game their team wins was easy, and should have been won in a bigger point fashion.

That's just asinine to everyone that played.

Stout was lucky to keep it that close.   :o

(explosion in 3, 2, 1... :) )

Stout played with intensity.  They were ready to come and teach the Johnnies a lesson.  Got into the Jays's heads. Got close. ;)

But without the trolling, Stout's D-line was far more effective against the Johnnie O-line than I expected.

Good God you people test my patience.

On purpose, I realize.  ;D

It's not the points, by the way, that disappoint me but the unforced errors.  Dropped passes.  The two ints which were hopelessly forced passes.  The worrying bit was in the offensive trenches.  Otherwise the Johnnies looked very rusty and the Devils played with far more intensity.

well maybe the defensive coaches adjusted, but the offense coaches just kept trying to score by running into a super stingy stout defense line. Poor play choice by SJU coaches probably cost SJU 2 more touchdowns. Which in the end almost resulted in a STOUT win in. About the refs, very poor. They were not paying attention on several occasions and the ball spotting was so poor, one wonders if it was deliberate.

Thank you BDB! All the comments against the Johnnies were fair. Bottom line,  winning on the road at any WIAC school is not a forgone conclusion. Especially, for one of the MN private schools (viewed as silver spoon kids) Johnnies survived that's all that matters. It appears to me that Bethel was the most impressive today. Was at the UST game.  They just won but not dominant in any phase. They were just clearly better all the way around. Don't be shocked if  Eau Claire Vs.  UST isn't very similar to what SJ2 saw today. Just hope they get the same result. Win is a win.
