A wonderful article about Michael Herzog's miraculous journey. The MIAC's version of satan, at least according to Faunch & Oz, is also highlighted by Michael in the article.

Touching story. Great that his recovery has gone so exceptionally well.

Tip of the hat to Glenn Caruso. Very thoughtful of him. Above and beyond what could be expected. I think most of us can separate Caruso the coach from Caruso the human being. Faunch has made this distinction in conversation with me many times.

Ditto. Very impressive that Coach Caruso would go to such lengths to come alongside the young man. While I will never understand nor like some of his coaching decisions, this is just very good stuff. Kudos Coach Caruso. And it's so awesome that Michael's recovery has gone so well! God's answer to many prayers, no doubt!

There are some rumors that weather may impact game start times on Saturday...any backyard meteorologists out there have an opinion?
Forecasts I've seen for Collegeville are for morning and afternoon thunderstorms w/ 30 mph wind gusts. Tailgating will be a bitch! Lightening will put everything on hold.

As far as the game at SJU...Johnnies need to pull the heads out of the collective arse and forget about friggin' NFL scouts that have stopped by practice. Hopefully the coaches have convinced them that they haven't won anything yet. They played two weeks ago like Stout was going to curl up and die for them.

The GAC game has me more concerned than I expected...they've got something to prove. I'm afraid that the 2019 Johnnies are resting on last season's laurels.
On offense the o-line needs to be much better...they were borderline pathetic at Stout...challenge issued lads. Also they've got to figure out who their playmakers are. Van Earp needs to catch the ball first, then run. Trost needs to touch the ball at least 15 times...he's one of the fastest backs we've had in years.
Stop running Barber to the outside...he's not fast enough.  Maybe put Udoibock at tight end...he's a big kid that can catch and should be able to block.
The defense only gave up 7 to Stout and that was on a short field....GAC let them score 21.

Yes an inspiring story.  And I, too, am able to separate Glenn Caruso the person from St Glenn the UST coach.

Also, as I've said, I think that the MIAC's vote on UST had nothing specifically to do with the football program other than it was a (well-earned) easy excuse to do what the MIAC schools wanted to do for institutional reasons, not competitive ones.

The quotes and statements on herzog's precarious medical condition are one thing, but that picture says everything. A parents worst nightmare. Michael seems wise beyond his years; appreciative for what he has now and contemplative over how his parents must have felt.

That's just an awesome story all around. So great to see the answer to prayers for Michael and the whole Herzog family. Huge Kudos to Caruso, every Saturday is just an amazing commitment for a player that wasn't even a UST alum. Love the line "comparison is the thief of joy."

Great stuff. Reason 10,049 why I love D3 sports so much. Just so many great players, coaches, and parents involved with athletics at this level.

And I really wanted to dislike Caruso. That makes it hard. He did more than most people would have done. He stands a little taller after that.
And hazzben, I also liked his "comparison is the thief of joy" line.
I too love Dlll sports. I sense more of a feeling of family here than at other levels. You get MY feelings when I say, "Go Everybody"!
Good luck to all of our teams tomorrow.  ;D
I'm old! I get mixed up and I forget things! Go Everybody! 🏈 ☠

I'm trying to broaden my horizon's of DIII football outside of Texas, Oregon, and Ohio. I've seen a lot of Caruso the man and Caruso the coach. Why is their a dislike of Caruso the coach?

I believe that is a Teddy Roosevelt quote.

Running trick plays against a team you are triple-monkey stomping doesn't sit well with a lot of people.

He tends to not care about some of the unwritten rules about what is/isn't appropriate which is reflected in the play-calling, whether that's going for it on 4th down a lot, employing weird trick plays (sometimes with the game in hand), going for 2, etc. This rubs people the wrong way.

The sun always shines on Johnnie football.

Stop by #17 for a cold, refreshing Hamms.

Oh for the days of the Pace Arrow, although it might not fit in #17. Might've needed #18 too.   ;D

I think my failures as a father are becoming more evident.  My daughter's first (local) game (while school is in session) against a rival, for a trophy (the Goat) and the right to turn the Eagle, and she may not be going..... :o ??? :( >:(

I was all excited, reading the social media posts from Carleton and st. olaf and sent something to her, and she says she's probably not going to be able to go because of some quiz bowl meeting/tournament.

THIS IS FOOTBALL WE'RE TALKING ABOUT!!!

Oh well, I'll be streaming it in Texas.  Go Carleton!
