3.) Kicking game. 190 guys, you'd think one could be perfect in FGs under 35 yards and PATs.
On 3, like whenever has that been true for us?  We got spoiled by Barwick go gave us a reliable boot for the first time ever.  He was an anomaly and we now return to the normal.  I have low expectations here.

Oz, your memory is shorter than your...well, it's short.

Don't forget about Russel Gliadon whose foot won some games.
Here's a link to one memorable game, youtube video is appropriately called, "The Kick".

Enjoy your goosebumps.

If goosebumps were nausea.

I was at that one and remember it all too clearly.

In hindsight, it felt like at game that BU was trying "not to lose" rather than to win, after having the ball with a lead, before going 3 and out and punting before the drive that led to the fateful kick.

Ha!  Yes, I'm properly embarrassed by my short... memory.

The 2010 overtime extra point is the SJU kick that induces goosebumps for me. I'm too lazy to go look for it though.

The SJU kicker had just shanked a PAT as his previous kick, so I think that most of us in the BU stands were feeling pretty confident that he wasn't likely to bomb a ~50 yarder....

Didn't he make a 51 yarder a couple of weeks later?

I found it  ;) . It's as good as I remembered

My memory from that day is being on the field and seeing George Brett and Vince Flynn together celebrating the win. Brett's son was on a recruiting trip to UST from KC. He ended up at UST playing football and baseball for at least a couple years.

What a glorious game that was. Probably one of my favorite Johnnie memories....sadly, the Class of 2013 didn't get to enjoy too much success on the field after that season...

Evening all, on a business trip, sorry I'm a bit tardy posting this.

Looking back at last week's games, no big surprises in my eyes. The Gustie/Johnnie game lived up to the game of the week moniker I attached to it in last week's preview. The spread by the Tommies over the Pipers was a bit more than I expected.

This week we get five games to get ready for, as the aforementioned Tommies play their last non-conference game this week - and, it will be under the lights in Eau Claire. Perhaps some on this board might make it a double-header day - looking at you BDB. For the Tommies, this will be a tougher game than the NAIA Trinity International team they played in week one, and the Pipers last week. Dare I say it might be their toughest test to date this season? But they should win going away, unless they self-destruct. I don't see the Blue-golds as having the muster to win the game. (Maybe this post will light their fire and prove me wrong.)

Three of the MIAC games this week are really no-contests, as the Johnnies, the Oles, and the Cobbers should all win against the Knights, the Auggies and the Pipers, respectively.

The game of the week in the MIAC has to be Bethel going down to St. Peter to take on Gustavus Adolphus. Many are saying that the Gusties are positioned to knock off one of the favored teams in the MIAC this season. They have the advantage of playing at home this week. However, the Royals had a bye week last week, and basically have had two weeks to prepare. I'm betting there were more than a few Royals in attendance at last weeks game in Collegeville. It should be a good game, and wearing my Royal colored glasses, I expect BU to come away with a win.

If all goes as I expect, this week will be a visitor sweep week, with no home teams winning a game.

Jimmie Mattson Alexi Johnson were also a pretty darn good kickers. I would say we've had good kickers the past 20 years, starting with Brandon Keller.

Jimmie Mattson has 6 of the 10 longest field goals in SJU history.

Classmate of Fins and I, Jeff Norman, holds many kicking records as well. His full time job was quarterback.

Since BU had the weekend off, I took advantage of the free Saturday and wandered around.

(was actually there all week for work and then had a free weekend on the back end of the work trip)

Would love to have seen the inside before the fire.  Curious how long it will take to rebuild...

Went there once with the wife and it was amazing.  Not just the windows but the sculptures and all the other historical stuff that was just sitting there.  Also were lucky enough to hear a choir that was doing a free concert for some event in town.  I hope to get back at some point and will be curious to see how the inside will have changed.

When your name is mentioned in the same sentence as the FBI and US District Attorney you've got yourself in quite a predicament.
