Wow!

Had a real nightmare this morning.
I saw a fuzzy list of the standings for the MIAC. The top team had a 4 - 0 record, leading the conference. High scoring offense in a very solid conference. Right away, I wondered if it was St. John's. Could be St. Thomas. How about Bethel? After all, these are the top teams in the conference. And then the fuzziness cleared up. The name I saw at the top was St. Olaf. I know I broke out in a cold sweat. I tossed and turned. My life of watching Dlll football flashed before my eyes.
Finally, I awoke. My cat was on the bed urging me to get up and feed her. Thank goodness.
Scary stuff. Fortunately it was only a dream.
Or was it?
Go MIAC!  ;)  :P  ;D

St. Olaf reminds me of GAC from a few years back. Several years in a row they started out 5-0 and were winning comfortably. But had played no one. Then they played good teams in the MIAC and came crashing back to earth.

GAC is better now than those previous versions.

St. Olaf is about to come crashing back to earth IMO. But they are drastically improved from where they were when they made the HC change a few years back.

Their schedule is definitely back loaded...could be a difficult final five weeks of the season. I feel so bad for them!  ;D

Don't worry, you're dream probably won't be a recurring one. A schedule that ends with Bethel, SJU, UST, Cob, GAC is it's own kind of nightmare.

Regardless, kudos to the Oles for taking care of business so far.

Mrs Oz and all the Oz cherubs have been out all day so it's just me and the dog at home.  It's given me a bit of peace and the freedom to watch football all day. I just flicked on the replay of the Johnnie/Carleton game and I love the Knights's announcer.  He's like an enthusiastic grandpa and very easy to listen to. Knights fans are lucky to have him.

I listen to that guy at least a little bit every Carleton-SJU game. Fun, old school one-man broadcast with a great voice. Finally getting over some of the blog scores SJU out up under JG. This might have been the first broadcast I did not hear it. Some quirks when he tries to interject excitement, but a nice change of pace. No offense to VOJ and the guys.

BTW, Stretch denied problems twice before admitting issues on their end. They said my internet connection was likely the issue. So did a speedtest and my gig-speed connection was purring along at 860+. I sent them the link to the in-game board to show them I was not alone. They then sent out their "We're experiencing issues" note.

Well, unfortunately, my suspicions were confirmed last night in Eau Claire. I  eluded to this in a couple of earlier posts but was hoping for some major steps forward. Bottom line Tommies aren't very good. This will be  a big week for them and I am not very confident but if they beat the Cobs they can probably go 6-4. If they lose to the Cobs I bet they drop to the  Oles as well and go 4-6. They just don't have the horses they have had in the recent past. As near as I can tell,  they have two great RBs and a couple of good TEs, that's it. QB position is a big problem as teams take away the running game. O-line not very good either. Defensively, they are good  3 out of 4 plays  and then give up  a big play. Against the teams they've been playing it's been big gainers but against the Johnnies,  Royals and Gusties, these plays will be  touchdowns. It would be too bad if this ends up being their last year in the conference,  leaving with their proverbial  tail between their legs. Unfortunately, just calling it like I see it.

GAC certainly deserved votes but only got two ranking points.  I reckon they are a top 20 team.

A point of clarification: is it this year or next which is the Tommie's last?  They are in the MIAC through spring 2021 according to the articles I've seen which means we have one last go around at Clemens next season.  But perhaps I'm mistaken.

Remains to be seen whether they will use the second year. If a new home is established, the transition may begin sooner.

This past week's MIAC conference games were chalk, as they say, but the Tommies non-conference loss to the Bluegolds Saturday night kept the visitors from sweeping. I watched about two-thirds of the game, missing the early scores from both teams. This certainly has the makings of shaking things up within the MIAC in the weeks to come. Perhaps it will be the warning shot over the bow of the USS Caruso that gets their attention and they don't lose another game for the rest of the season. They'll have to change the course of the program though, and I am not sure they have it within their means to do so. We shall see.

This week the Gusties have their bye week, an extra week to get ready for their trip up to the Cobber Homecoming game on the 12th of October. Carleton is at Bethel, Hamline is at St. Olaf, and Augsburg is at St. John's - all three of these games should be won by the home teams.

The game to follow this week has to be Concordia coming down to St. Thomas. After losing two close games arguably to the top two teams in the WIAC so far this season, the Cobbers have pitched two shutouts against MIAC foes. The Tommies are at home, and are probably favored, but I would not be surprised if the Cobbers put another torpedo into the hull of the USS Caruso, causing it to list even further.

@MiacMan

Step away from the ledge. Put down the gun.

Seriously. There is just about no way UST goes 4-6. They lost to UWEC not because they got dominated but because they couldn't get out of their own way. One glance at the box score says this was a weird loss. They didn't get beat up or dominated. They may not have a great qb (time will tell how good he is), but they didn't just lose all their talent. And now their backs are against the wall. There's is a LOT of season left.

And that will leave the remaining MIAC teams scrambling to fill an additional non-conference game...unless MAC comes back. What a well thought out plan by the MIAC presidents!
