Hey Pat, how about a separate board for Tommie transition?  No offense to those interested parties--I understand that it's a hot topic with lots of speculation, but...

Oh Duff, Paaleeze?

I was being 100% serious.  U$T hockey interests me about as much as a swift kick to the groin.
Amen to that! +k

Griff and I are going to Montevideo for the pheasant opener, hoping the weather reports are totally off!

Ripley and I (and the wife depending on how bad the weather is) are planning on a quick morning hunt near Belgrade prior to the SJU/Bethel showdown.  My BIL and SIL leave near Monti and said they've been seeing quite a few bids.  I've also heard some reports from the Benson area that there were some really small chicks as of 3 weeks ago.

It's gonna be WET.  Ugh.

Gonna get on some game farm birds Wednesday.  Our training this summer was virtually non-existent.  :-\

And the final game in MIAC play this week has #4 St. John's hosting #6 Bethel. The weather looks to be rather miserable, which makes Bethel's "heavy package" look better on paper than the aerial attack of Erdmann and company.

Valid point, but at least the game is on turf, and I would rather have Jackson throwing the ball in miserable conditions that anyone else.

What's your take on the SJU running game this year? Of course Barber is back for his 7th year and he's a bruiser, but it looks like a ton of different guys toting the rock. Can Barber (or someone else, Trost or Udoibok?) carry the load if it's needed?

Well, I guess you have to be dominant at something.  ::)

Can anyone provide insight on what happened with the Cobbers and the Toms?  I was not expecting a blowout.

Well, the Toms played pretty well. I have to give them that. Night and day from the week before. They seem to play with some urgency and purpose (rightfully so). However, for some reason the Cobs never play very well against UST. I can't remember when the last time they beat UST (Caruso's 1st or 2nd year?). Cobs gave up some big scoring plays early in the 2nd qtr and we all know what happens from there with their style of offense. Cobs also had poor field position the entire game. The cupboard is not bare at UST. Their D was solid because the Cobs are not designed for quick strikes/big plays. I will still maintain they do not have the horses they have had in the past. Pretty much a carbon copy of last years team. My guess (now) is that they will win the games they should and 6-4 is the worst they'll do. I will also predict they will beat one of SJ2, Bethel or GAC and general wisdom would say that it will be GAC but I'm not so sure....

3 years ago was a tough one @ Concordia, with their hook and lateral and our comeback with a diving Waldvogel in the endzone. On Saturday, maybe going into halftime, we run a hook and lateral that I assume was a throwback to that. Fun stuff.

But the last few years have been ugly. Get up early and they just seem to quit.

Speaking of which, what's the bigger d*** move, going for 2 after scoring a TD early in the 2nd quarter to go up 20-0 OR shouting "D*** move" in the stands filled with children on the attempt (which failed, btw). Asking for a friend... who probably has a kid on the Concordia team and was pretty salty that his team wasn't doing well. Maybe the unwritten rules police can lobby to get it put into the new MIAC bylaws, when it is and isn't acceptable to try to get 2 points instead of 1 (or 7 instead of 3, or 7/3 instead of 0, etc).

I imagine the conversation will calm down pretty quickly after the initial announcement, etc. It's pretty easy to skip over those posts (most of the really long ones have not been by UST folk, anyway) just like I do with Oz's Aussie football or hunting posts or the Johnnie smokefest. But while Pat is adding new boards, maybe he can also create an Aussie Football/Hunting one :-P

Concordia has never beaten St. Thomas under Caruso.

This could be a nice new home for said topic. Someone started the thread back when the Toms took their involuntary leave back in May and it's been rather dormant ever since.

It's been improving each week, though the competition hasn't been getting better.  Barber's a bruiser, like you said.  Trost is a slasher.  Udoibok hasn't been used a ton this year.  Most often they're in a single-back set.  They have some great o-linemen, and I think they have really come together since the Stout game.  I don't think you're going to the the Johnnies take over a game on the ground, but they're capable enough to balance the air attack.

I hear ya on the training. Did the game farm thing a two weeks ago. For some reason my dog doesn't want to retrieve. He finds and points like a champion. He'll even run to the downed bird but he'll almost always lets one of the other dogs retrieve it or just stay by the bird until you walk over and pick it up. I have been working with him using a dummy pheasant in the backyard for the last two weeks hopefully it will make a difference. We'll see...

I guess if 4 out of 5 in football isn't enough (or 7 of 10) and most of the rest of men's and women's sports isn't enough, we'll just have to drown out the smokefest with UST D1 facilities talk so we can have something to hang our hats on.

Yeah, I'm eager to get out with just him.  The neighbors that I sometimes go with have labs, and hunting a pointer with labs SUCKS.  I try to get him away from them, but it's less than ideal.  Wednesday should be good for us.  Jamtod, you want to weigh in?  :P
