Wanna say a good word for St. Johns not running up the score today thereby not incurring the wrath of the of the MIAC council.

I wonder at what point SJU does something about their Kicking for extra point and field goal situation.  Sooner or later (like maybe next week against St Thomas) it is going to bite them in the butt real bad. It is a tragic loss just waiting to happen.  Oh Charlie from Eau Claire,  Why did you go and graduate?

Schools don't get kicked out of the MIAC for running up scores. They get kicked out for being too competitive in the education marketplace (and running up scores).

In the post game interview VOJ mentions and Gary confirms that the powers that be in Collegeville are considering moving next year's Johnnie/Tommie game off campus.  Gary re-iterated over his dead body.

I hope they don't do it.  Please not.

I'm with you, Oz (and Gary). Toms needed to move the game because they have a toilet bowl of a stadium.

Gophers play Purdue at TCF Bank Stadium the same weekend as Johnnie-Tommie 2020.

I wonder if the powers that be are looking to US Bank Stadium? It would certainly make a November 7 game less of a weather liability.
Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

Wonder if people are thinking of one last chance to get the D-III record back for this rivalry, since it seems like the Cortaca Jug game is going to take that record this year.

My take on the game: BU are very good but the Johnnies just slowly overwhelmed them.

On offence, SJU's passing attack proved too difficult to cover and it opened up a lot of opportunities.  Most importantly, it kept the pressure on BU.  I think the Johnnies could have score 10 or 12 more points if they kicked straighter and converted some opportunities, but the BU defence is stingy (they did well to slow the Johnnies way down after a blistering opening drive from SJU).  SJU may have put up a lot of yards in the end but BU never looked like they were getting beat.  The BU d-line got to Erdmann three times but didn't really pressure him outside of those tackles.  They needed to get in his face on every play to slow that pass attack down.

On defence, the Johnnies played an amazing game.  Came up huge when under some big pressure in the first half and then really took control in the second half.  BU had some great field position and was able to move the ball well but only managed to get into the red zone once and that was on the first drive.  In the second half the Johnnie D really shut down the BU options and it never looked like BU would have the firepower to catch back up to the Jays.  I was most pleased with the Johnnie pass coverage.  The longest pass play was 12 yards and the longest run was 14.  The defence was hot on a very cold day.

(Johnnie XP and FG kicking a concern.  A genuine Achilles heel.)

I would characterise the game as similar to an arm wrestle you may see on ESPN.  Two big strong guys but one was just a little stronger and always in control after the initial clinch.  The other guy will beat everyone else he comes against though.

I don't rate the MIAC over by any means.  It will be a nerve wracking week to see how the Johnnies stack up against the Tommies (who seem to have come out of their UWEC slumber).  And after that I think BU will play the Tommies very well when they meet.  The conference still has three teams with a legit chance of taking the crown.

I gotta admit, the thought of playing one last huge game in that temple to sport is tempting.  Could they get 55k to fill that barn for the last Johnnie-Tommie game?  Possibly.

I don't know.  I would rather they put 25k worth of temporary seats around Clemens.

How many temporary roads and parking garages? :)

I was thinking that as I wrote it.  Being a Nov 7 game they may need snowmobile parking as well.

I went to the UWW/UWP game today. UWW dominated statistically, but had some turnovers, and screw ups. To my eye, they did get some favorable calls and non calls from the officials though. I was told that the UWW announcers were also in sync with that observation. They are susceptible to the pass. UWP missed a number of wide open chances with drops by receivers. Wind was a factor. UWW employs a 3 RB rotation (like SJU) but all three are quite good, and I think I heard that they got almost 300 yds on the ground.

Good game, but I think right now, the Johnnies are slightly better than either team.

With St John's shutting out the #6 team in the country & Whitewater only defeating #19 Platteville by a touchdown, what is the likelihood that St John's will retake the #3 ranking they had in the preseason?

Good question. I guess it depends on how many voters look past the score and into the box score. If they even do a cursory look, they will see the UW-W dominance. If they don't, they won't.

First downs: UW-W 29  UW-P 12
Total yards: UW-W 513  UW-P 237
Rushing yards:  UW-W 376  UW-P   19

I couldn't care less about the rankings at this point. I won't care until I see the playoff seedings.

A down on his luck Tommie walks past a pub. He looks at the door longingly, but since he has no money, he walks on. Just then, he spots a lamp lying in the gutter. He picks it up and rubs it, and a genie emerges.

"I will grant you three wishes," intones the genie.

"Give me a bottomless mug of beer," the Tommie says.

A mug of beer appears in his hand. He takes a sip, then another. With each chug, the mug magically refills.

"And for your other two wishes?"

Between swallows, the lucky Tommie shouts, "Give me two more just like this one!"
