I have mixed feelings about Tommie-Johnnie week now that we're leaving the MIAC and set to land somewhere in D1. In the past, the cheeky banter was fun because it added to the competitive spirit. Now it feels a bit unnecessary given that we'll no longer be competitors.

Part of me thinks that engaging in the banter would be like we're bullying the Johnnies. It's sort of like when Rudy left his friends at the mill and headed off to Notre Dame. He could no longer joke with his old buddies in the same way because their lives were on two totally different trajectories.

In short, go Tommies! Also, here's to the guys who will still be slogging it out at the mill...

Maybe we could take this in a different direction.  I am hearing rumors of a quarterback transfer to SJU.  This transfer will be their starting freshman quarterback in 2024 and happens to be a former preferred walk on from D1 St. Thomas.  Seriously, in what year will the Johns start benefiting from getting transfers from St. Thomas?  From which school will the Johns get most of their D1 transfers?  U of M? NDSU? Penn State? Northern Iowa? St. Thomas?

Oh, I reckon there's a ways to go until that ledger is even readable, much less balanced.

The new Top 25 poll is out. St John's remains 4th, Bethel falls to 10th, & St Thomas stays at 11th.

OZ, that's actually not a bad idea.  Demolish O'Shaughnessy Stadium and replace it with a D1 6000 seat hockey arena much like MSU Mankato has.  Fold St. Kates into St. Thomas and looks to be ample space in the area of Fairview Avenue S and Bayard Avenue for D1 Football Stadium.  At that location, there is a soccer field, a softball diamond, tennis courts, a large parking lot and the Sister Alberta apartments.  A secondary location would be at Cleveland Avenue South and Bayard.  We would need to remove a lot of trees and a pond to make that location work.  That would be a great walk down Cleveland Avenue from D1 St. Thomas to the new football stadium.

As an aside, I never realised how big, beautiful and leafy the St Kate's campus was until I looked at it on Google Maps just now.

Interesting consideration for Tommie Johnnie week: who are the biggest transfers from one school to the other?

Obviously we've got our buddy I.A.
Late 90s St John's DE Phil Trier started with a year at St Thomas.
Technically Josh Parks is a transfer through St John's.

Who else?

Other than the ones you mentioned, I honestly can't think of any (impact players, at least).  And you didn't even believe me when I told you that Trier spent a year at UST.

A tradition unrivaled...
MIAC Champions: '32, '35, '36, '38, '53, '62, '63, '65, '71, '74, '75, '76, '77, '79, '82, '85, '89, '91, '93, '94, '95, '96, '98, '99, '01, '02, '03, '05, '06, '08, '09, '14, '18, '19, '21, '22, '24
National Champions: '63, '65, '76, '03

I did once somebody provided some evidence and he confirmed it.
Would you trust a Tommie?

I remember there was a kid that played basketball transferred from SJU to UST.  I seem to remember that the chants of "You're a traitor" coming from the SJU fans.  I would need to go back and look at archived rosters to figure who that was.

Both of those locations at St. Kates have a larger footprint than that of TCF Stadium at the U of M.

Four football fans go rock climbing one afternoon: an Ole, a Tommie, a Gustie, and a Knight. The whole time they were climbing up the mountain they did nothing but argue about who was the most “die-hard” fan.

Once they reached the top of the mountain, the Knight proclaimed to the other three… “This is for all Carleton supporters” and promptly threw himself off the mountain as a form of sacrifice.

Not to be outdone by a Knight, the Gustie jumped off the mountain screaming, “This is for all the Gustavus supporters!”, again as a form of sacrifice.

Refusing to be outdone by the Gustavus and Carleton fans, the Ole rose to his feet and yelled at the top of his lungs, “This is for all the St Olaf fans” and without hesitation, pushed the Tommie off the mountain.

Too tired from hanging with kids all day to come up with a snarky response but maybe I'll have some whiskey later and be inspired.
