Let the facts come out before casting judgement, but yes, on the surface it does not appear very good.

No judgement cast here, but any way this plays out is not a good situation for anyone involved.  Best case scenario is a tarnished reputation for Benson.

3 very over matched games, with a little hope that Bethel and Concordia-Moorhead could be a good game to watch. Am I missing something here?

I don't even think the Bethel/Cobber game will be very interesting unless someone has introduced Horan to the forward pass.  The Cobbers have completed 27 passes for 415 yards in 6 games this season.  ::)

This weeks games,

Bethel @ Concordia-Moorhead. Concordia has won 3 of the last 4 meetings. Simulating this game Bethel shows a 90% win probability with a 28-10 most likely score. Sound about right?

Gustavus Adolphus @ Augsburg. The Golden Gusties have won the last 5 meetings. Gustavus Adolphus shows a 99+% win probability with a 55-10 most likely score.

St. John's @ St. Oalf. The Johnnies have won the last 6 and 13 of the last 14. St. John's has a 99+% win probability with a 42-7 most likely score. Seems low, doesn't it?

St. Thomas @ Carleton. Carleton hasn't defeated the Tommies since 1992 and it is hard to believe that changes this week. St. Thomas has a 99% win probability with a 45-13 most likely score.

Hamline is on the bench this week.

Might be a good week for a fish fry.

Sounds pretty much like what I said a couple of days back:

The upcoming week in the MIAC looks pretty ho-hum. The higher rated teams should beat the lower ranked teams. Hamline has the bye this week.

Gustavus travels to Augsburg to win on the road.

St. Thomas travels down to Northfield for the first week of two in a row to take out their frustration on Carleton.

St. John's heads to Northfield as well to take on the Oles of St. Olaf. Hopefully the visiting team buses don't stop at the same McDonalds.  ;D

Game of the week, has to be Bethel traveling up into Moorhead to take on the Cobbers.

Looks like all four visiting teams should come away with wins.

I'm willing to hammer the over hard on that UST-Carleton game if anybody would like to take me up on it.

I've got a lot of ground to make up on this year's betting after losing twice on the Tommie-Johnnie game AND also making a bet with a Wheaton-alum co-worker about which team would advance further in the playoffs (tie-breaker going back to regular season record).

I haven't watched the Cobs enough this year to understand how, but that offense and QB have really regressed (if that's possible with an old flexbone scheme). High 30% completion percentage. Passing on only 25% of plays. 4 interceptions and 4 TDs. I'm guessing it's tough to recruit dynamic offensive skill players in that scheme.

Meanwhile, when looking at MIAC passing stats, it's mildly surprising that Veldman (GAC) is right in the mix with Erdmann from a stats perspective with Roste (Bethel) not far behind. Good for them.

Did anyone see any followup on the field conditions at Allianz for the big soccer game?  I enjoyed reading the complaints from the soccer diehards prior to the game, but I never heard the outcome.

I found this.  Sounds like it fared better than expected.

QuoteAllianz Field survives rapid transition from football to futbol for Minnesota United playoff game

Allianz Field's grounds crew worked overnight watering, tamping, manicuring and loving up the grass that had been laid only three weeks ago into game condition after St. John's and St. Thomas played a college football game on it Saturday afternoon.

By Sunday's playoff debut, it was green and firmer than it had been much of the season when drainage issues damaged roots in sections of the field.

"The field [condition was] good considering what we've gone through and what was on it [Saturday]," Minnesota United coach Adrian Heath said. "It was better than what we've been playing on recently. Fair dues to the grounds man and his crew for what they had to put up with the last couple weeks.

"They've done an incredible job to get the field in the condition it was in. The pitch played well."

During April's scoreless tie at Allianz Field, L.A. Galaxy superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic picked up a big chunk of grass after his slide tore in the turf and threw it back at the hole he created. There were no such theatrics Sunday.

When asked if the field affected the game, United goalkeeper Vito Mannone said, "I don't think so. Listen, we played all season with bubbles and some problems on the pitch. [Sunday], the pitch didn't cut up as much. The ball was bouncing a little bit, but it's the same field for us, the same field for them."

That's not a good situation.  :-\
Let the facts come out before casting judgement, but yes, on the surface it does not appear very good.

What gets me is that the circumstances described would never lead to anything but being busted.  I don't see how it could possibly be true, but then people are caught like this all the time.

Veldman can sling it.  GAC needs more D.

DuffMan

Yeah, Veldman can definitely sling it!  He doesn't quite have the surrounding cast to break into the top 2-3, though.  Can he topple U$T?  If he gets a solid performance from his defense, it's a distinct possibility.
