Most everything you want is in a regular grocery store but sometimes theres a few things that are only at the USA store.  It's crazy expensive so we don't go often.  But candy corn, individually wrapped caramel, Twizlers, Goldfish.  Those sorts of things aren't carried in a regular store.  There's a South African grocery not far from our house as well and it's stocked with about 800 different types of beef jerky.  The South Africans are very nostalgic for dried beef, it seems.

Wait- can we give all of the candy corn to Australia?  How do we make this happen?  You're welcome to all of it.  Every last piece.

You would miss it if it disappeared, trust me.  Maple Syrup as well, obviously, although we do our own personal import business (a couple jugs a year to keep us and in friends supplied with the best product) of Fideldy's world champion syrup.  These folks are only six or seven miles from my folk's place so you know it's good, pure northern Minnesota sap making that sweet nectar.

Way back when I was in school the monks made some very good maple syrup. Somebody please tell me they still do! Fideldy looks very good.

Thanks. Times change but I'm glad that didn't. Back then everybody except a few day hops ate all our meal in the Refectory family style. Almost everything was raised at the Monastery. Freshmen especially gained some avoirdupois.  :)

57: The story I got was that for decades the abbey produced everything but its own coal and wine grapes, shipped by the truckload from California. A huge wood shop made most of the furniture for the dorms, at least into the 1970s.

And the monks would break out their wine, nicknamed Abbey gas, for special occasions. Quite potent. One of my campus jobs was setting up and tearing down after events. We ate ... and drank .... quite well.

Who thinks #1 for Olaf should have been penalized for targeting at the end of this run? I was at the game and commented immediately after the play that it should have been. The runner's intention might have been to lead with the shoulder but he clearly launched himself into the defender and connected with the crown of his helmet on the defender's chin.

Ummm, no. Not even close. It was his shoulder, not the crown of his helmet. Offensive players rarely if ever get called for it, and I think the inequity is a problem. But there is nothing wrong with how he finishes this run.

I agree. The last thing I want to see is the refs nitpicking every little pump and pop more than they already do. Particularly when the Johnnies are a very fast and physical team.  Save the targeting calls for when a guy gets ironed out.

Abbey Gas, oh my! Potent stuff and very flammable. Rumor has it that Abbey Gas was the secret beverage that Michael Jackson referred to as his "Jesus Juice".... drink down and converse with the Lord. T'was Abbey Gas that the 1976 Johnnies would fill their water bottles with. Back to football, I thought the refs missed at least two calls against the Oles for cheap shots. One of which angered the Johnnies QB and got him penalized.

I agree with you, Oz.  At this level of football (i.e. no instant replay), it should be reserved for egregious infractions.  Also, it should be called on offensive players, too.

I'm wrong. If UW-Plat wins out they'll be a 1 loss runner up and getting an at large. Should they lose to UW-Osh that opens the door for UST - at least of the West teams.

I really don't see a 2-loss MIAC team getting in.  I guess we'll know more when the regional rankings come out and the MIAC schedule winds down.

It's happened before but that was a different time and not a team that had a loss to UW-Eau Claire. A lot of dominoes would have to fall in order for that to even be in consideration.

Probably need another loss for Platteville (Oshkosh this week) and Redlands (not likely based on remaining schedule) and some combination of John Carroll (Heidelberg or BW although BW could then take the 1-loss spot), North Central (Illinois Wesleyan but that's not looking likely), Wesley (not likely), and the loser of Union/Ithaca to get into consideration.

Also, U$T would need to beat GAC and unethical Bethel.

Of course, I figure that was assumed in any discussion about their Pool C chances, but those Ws aren't obvious. I just hope we don't struggle too much with Olaf on Saturday.

Pretty much a chalk week, as all four visiting higher ranked teams won this past Saturday.

For the coming week, Augsburg has the bye. I'm pretty sure I am not alone in looking at the current conference records and seeing some surprising results compared to the pre-season MIAC coaches poll. There is a distinct possibility that all four conference games on the last week of the season will be between teams where the winners of those games will place them in the spot directly over the teams they just defeated. In essence, all games of the week. The Johnnies are playing Rose-Holman in their final non-conference game.

The easy game this week is Hamline going up to Bethel. I'll be at this game with my neighbor and his 11 year old son. The weather is looking good for the MIAC this coming Saturday. That's about all Hamline has going for it this week. This could definitely be a second week in a row that Bethel shuts out its opponent.

The next "easiest" game in my mind, is the Cobbers coming down to the Johnnies. The Cobbers might get goose eggs two weeks in a row.

The third game in order of "toughness", has to be Carleton at Gustavus, as both teams will score points, and Gustavus should be able to end up on the winning side of this contest.

The game of the week has to be St. Thomas going down to St. Olaf for the retribution game. Before the season many of us thought we would go to this game to see the Tommies pound down the Oles. The reality is, the Tommies have to win this game to stay in contention for an at-large bid, and will probably be forced to restrain themselves somewhat to "look good" for the selection committee. But maybe they'll just go for the pounding - "damn the torpedoes, full steam ahead". Maybe we'll see another behind the back toss into the end zone for a two point conversion.   :o

A cobber linebacker quietly had a huge day on Saturday...

That has to be some sort of record, right?   ;)

Senior captain Alex Berg had one of his biggest games in his career. The middle linebacker finished with a game-high 12 sacks and also had 1.5 tackles for a loss, a pass break-up and a quarterback hurry.

I think they'll drop a NG into coverage and the DTs will do breakdance moves at the LOS.  The DBs will just let receivers get behind them and interfere on occasion.

Bethel went into the week not having given up a sack, only to give up 12 to one guy  :o ... records/streaks are meant to be broken  8-)

In other streak breaking news, Bethel's string of holding opposing QB below their season completion percentage goes down to the 1950's Cobber Rushing attack. We held Kragnes to 5-12 (they were 5-13 as a team), good for 41.7%, just a tick above his season average of 39.1%.

Cobbers v. SJU ... Johnnies speed on D will utterly overwhelm the one dimensional Cobber attack. 46-0 SJU is my prediction (3 missed PAT's  ;))

Olaf vs. UST is gonna be so fascinating. UST is in a desperate fight to save their season. Though, technically, so is St. Olaf. I think UST rolls in this one as Olaf has been significantly overmatched against BU and SJU. The bad blood is a nice little storyline, and I disagree here Art, I don't think UST holds anything back. Olaf is improved from 2017, so the score is closer, but not because Caruso is being gentle.
