A meat pie, by the way, is a beef and gravy mixture cooked in a hand sized pastry like a small fruit pie. There are heaps of combinations like curries or different gravies that make them very delicious.

That looks delicious!  I make a mean pheasant pot pie.  Our kids go crazy for it.

Pheasant ... perfect! Hope there are some left when I get back to the land of Sky Blue Waters full time.

Oz, I remember Repete Jr. when we tried an Outback not long after a trip Down Under. The kid looked at the place and said .. "Nope."  Would love to find a version of the carpetbag steak -- ribeye with oysters sewn up inside. Tremendous.

A bright note for Concordia, there are four D3 teams with fewer passing YPG than them.  ;D

#241 Concorida Moorhead - 70.6 ypg
#242 Ripon - 62.4 ypg
#243 Geneva - 57.1 ypg
#244 Springfield - 41.8 ypg
#245 Becker - 37.1 ypg

Unfortunately for them, SJU is #1 in passing yardage (365.4 ypg), and Concordia is #187 for passing yardage allowed (239.1 ypg).

The Cobbers have played a tough schedule, though, with losses to Whitewater (#3), Bethel (#9), U$T (#19), LaCrosse (RV), and a very capable and pass-happy Gustavus team.

Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

OK Tricksters. Go easy on the Voodoo Ranger IPA when you get up to your Johnfoolery on the highways and byways this crazy evening.  :)

That's what brandy is for but only neat. I never heard of a press but it sounds awful.

And a pie floater is a pie sunk in a bowl of pea soup. Extra savoury and just the thing to hit the spot on a cold, wet winters day down at the pub with a pint of beer.

Four'N Twenty. Used to see their signs at the footy stadiums back when I was able to get the matches on cable.

All this talk of pie is informative and surprising. I can only assume that most folks think of the Johnnies as a bangers and mash crowd. Maybe it has something to do with their obvious fondness for sausage....

I'm setting the Cobber pass attempt over/under at 20.

I had to go and look at the Cobber passing stats for 2019:

Loss to UW-Lax, 6 for 22
Loss to UW-W, 9 for 18
Win over Auggie, 4 for 9
Win over Hamline, 5 for 13
Loss to U$T, 3 for 7
Loss to GAC, 0 for 3
Loss to Bethel, 5 for 13
As an outside observer it appears that the problems for the Cobbers are at QB. This offense has been in place during the Horan era and has had QBs like Brian Schumacher,Griffin Neal, Michael Herzog (there are others that I can't think of now) who could run and throw- that's what makes this offense dangerous. Without the threat of a passing game this offense falls flat. So the question turns to recruiting, does the type of QB that can run this offense go some place else or does this type QB not exsist anymore ?
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

I've been wondering the same. Griffin Neal was a stud and holds the Cobber single season and career passing yard records (you have to go back to the 1980s for the season pass scoring record which is a little telling). He was a hometown boy, made the NO Saints practice squad, and was a once in a generation find for a D3 team in my opinion. I'm not sure how many talented true dual threat quarterbacks exist in D3 anymore. I'm guessing most of the true dual threat guys are getting scholarships at a higher level, especially with the growth in D2 and FCS teams in the Upper Midwest and explosion of spread and RPO offenses at higher levels. Maybe someone with D3 recruiting experience could confirm whether that's true or not.

I'll throw in that the Cobbers replaced 4 assistant coaches this year, so some of this year's inconsistencies might be transition pains.

I didn't realize the Cobbers had so much staff turnover this year.

I think QB is definitely the most glaring issue. Not sure they've got the horses at other skill spots either right now, but the QB is obviously the key to an option offense. I don't know that I'm quite ready to declare they can't get the QB's they need anymore. They are literally just a few seasons removed from Herzog, who was very good running the offense. I think it's probably just a blip on the screen right now. There are other guys out there who can run this offense and add a passing dimension.

I would guess that Bethel, St. John's and St. Thomas have multiple guys that could start at Concordia.  That's the way football recruiting tends to go.
