Not sure if any SJU players or coaches ever check this board out...if they do all I can say is pull your heads out of your collective ass! You haven't won anything yet. If you can't finish a drive or make an extra point you'll make it through at best week 1 of the playoffs!

So, question to Johnnie fans, did the Cobs just provide a template on how to contain SJU and Erdmann? Or was today a total one-off with the poor kicking game, penalties, etc.?

In other words, it looked to me like the Cobs rushed 3 on passing downs and had a spy on Erdmann for when he rolled out (I think it was Alex Berg who is very athletic). This yielded a lot of yards, especially run yards, but was effective near the red zone. Have other teams done that this year too?

Keep in mind the missed face mask at the 4-so sju wouid have been ahead 6 and won. So I'm not sure what this showed.

Oles did some weird things too. Think sometimes they only rushed 2. I don't know if it'd be a template or just one of those games. Like when the Tommies nearly beat the Johnnies in 2003. It didn't necessarily show a way to slow down Blake Elliott but they did nearly win. And yet the Johnnies were fine in the playoffs. If the Johnnies lose in the playoffs I don't think it'll be because the offense is just stopped cold. Will be like today, turnovers, failure to pick up fourth downs, whatever. And of course the kicking game. This doesn't change my views on their postseason chances that much. They can beat anybody. But having to win on the road at UMHB or Whitewater or Mount...could end like last year as well.

There is no doubt they will have to play at least 2 on the road in the playoffs-quarter and semi (unless higher seed team loses-umbh or uww or Mount )

It was a complete one-off.  The Jays thought the Cobs would just give them the win.  Cobs said, "Nuh-uh, ain't gonna roll over for you."

The only question I have (and I won't be watching that again to find out) is that perhaps the Cob secondary were covering spectacularly well because it seemed like every pass had Erdmann sitting back there for a long time letting things develop.  There were hardly any short plays.  Hardly any attempt at running until the second half.

It appeared to me as if the Johnnies just phoned it in.  I didn't listen to the post-game interview with Fasching, though, and he's usually pretty clear-headed about the Johnnie play.  Maybe someone else can relay what he said?

I for one have grown tired hearing about us having a potential NFL QB and left tackle. Also on the pregame show Chris Harris talked about playing pro! Seriously we've got a decent D3 team w/ some really good players...nothing more.
We pissed ourselves today when it mattered. Concordia won the game but we did a lot to lose it....major disappointment!

Yeah if Johnnies beat Hamline they're in. Even if they'd lose the last nonconference game of the year. Should be able to beat the Pipers. Provided it doesn't come down to a PAT.

One SJU loss and suddenly there is even an inkling of doubt surrounding the Hamline game?? That will not come down to a PAT, and I think the Johnnies will have many opportunities to attempt PATs.

I believe, at best, a facemask would have been offsetting penalties combined with the SJU holding call on that play. Runner was pushed out at the 8 yard line before the penalty so no touchdown regardless. That play started 2nd and 10 from the 16. After the holding penalty called, it was 2nd and 12 from the 18. If a facemask was called, I think penalties would have offset and it would have been 2nd and 10 from the 16 instead of 2nd and 12 from the 18. Not a lot of difference. The announcers did no one any favors by going crazy and not understanding the lack of impact. I didn't see the facemask in real time. I could be wrong.

Bad flashback to Augsburg game from 2011! Same end zone. Same spot in the end zone! Great catch too, didn't even notice the bobble and snare on first glance. More yards on this pass play than they had in four quarters through the air. Amazing. But again, great win for the Cobbers.

Well, I called that.  :'(
I guess we don't have to worry about that #1 seed anymore.

Erdmann was off today (he is human!), and his receivers were doing nothing to help him.  Cobbers secondary looked great, and Erdmann had all day throw.

While I agree there shouldn't be any doubts about SJ2's chances vs Hamline, I don't think anyone expected SJ2 to lose to a team UST throttled by 55. Just imagine -- should Hamline pull  off the hugest of upsets and beat the John's, there'd be NO postseason in Collegeville (or on the road for the Js).  it won't play out that way, but for the next 7 days I am pulling for some Piper Magic!

So, Jays stay on top as the HTH winner against both UST and BU?

Oh yeah.  They've got h2h advantage over either UST or BU.  St. John's just can't lose next week.  They could totally lose (but won't) against RHIT and still be in the tournament as the MIAC AQ.

so all the chatter and angst concerning whether SJ2 deserves a #1 regional seed or mot has proved to be a tad premature  ;D
